We came into the Emergency Room for a check up on my husband's foot. The process was quick and very efficient. He was seen by the Triage nurse first, then the nurse on duty, then the technician who took him for imaging, then the doctor and finally the discharge nurse. DO NOT EVER GO TO THE ER HERE. I put my life and my service dog's life in peril here. First of all, the medical care was grossly incompetent. I had my left arm (my dominant hand badly mangled by this 'team while inserting an IV and being punctured muliplte times for bloodwork. That was minor compared to the rest of the abuse and neglect. I arrived with my service dog which under the ADA, Article II and III allows service dogs to be present except in areas in hospitals which must be kept sterilized. That is Federal law. Immediately upon arrival some strange member of this team begins screaming at me that my service dog has to be taken to a shelter? Absolutely not. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Worse, she set up a 'friend' of hers to come late at night to take my service dog go outside on a rainy night to relieve himself but he returns dry.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This stranger informed me should would be back the the next morning at 8:00 a.m. She failed to show up and the original screaming representative told me this 'friend' who is "so honest", suddenly decided to take a trip to Block Island on a cold rainy day? Immediately, I become suspicious[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. My service dog is uneasy as well. I don't accept this lie and tell her so. Her next tactic is that she will take my service dog to her own home except she has a "highly aggressive" dog of her own and starts talking baby talk, fussing over my dog. These are major red flags here. Then she attempts another tactic which is that my service dog is to held at a "loving foster family's home." Who are these people? I would never entrust any of my highly trained service dogs to total strangers! I plan my escape by packing up my things and calling an uber driver who can be there in four minutes. However, she is so persistent in her plan to acquire an expensive, purebred, all Champion line, beautiful, highly trained service dog for FREE that she informs me that I should entrust her with looking after my dog while my brother arrives to take over my dog's care. My brother lives in Virginia! This hospital is in RI. it is logistically impossible for him to get there in at a few minutes notice. I run with my belongings, my dog's belonging and my dog and flag down the uber driver and we make our escape from this machiavellian plan to obtain my service dog illegally. As for the medical mishaps, just tossing me a shallow bed pan to use and leaving me sitting in my own urine was unprofessional and unsanitary. I am admitted at 12 noon but not evaluated at all, except the pharmacist came s in and cannot spell the two names of common medications I am currently taking. I told her I am late on my second dose of one them. Eight hours later, I still have not received my medication which for this partiuclarly medically dangerous. I am given no food or water for over 12 hours, held hostage in an ER cubicle whereas, I was told that I would receive a hospital room. This was a deliberate manipulative tactic to keep me isolated and closest to the exit so my valuable service dog could be taken from me at any moment, I ended up staying awake all night keeping watch. My dog stayed close to me on the narrow bed, shaking sensing things were awry. Dogs do not lie but humans do. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I am lied to consistently about the 'plan' for my care which is basically no plan at all, just another deception.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The test results were all normal so why am I being held hostage there for so long? This entire experience was so traumatizing. To take advantage of a frail senior citizen in this manner is a violation of so many state and federal laws. STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE OR THAT OF YOUR LOVED ONES BE THEY HUMAN OR CANINE. It was a good small town hospital 25 years ago but in the past few years under the new management it has drastically declined, especially the emergency room, the staff and doctors are the worse. They gave me a medication that counteracted and blocked one of my important medications. They sent me to nursing home rehab, I got If you have a choice DO NOT go there. I was in the Er. For a day and a half. They wouldn't give me my life saving medication that I'm supposed to have every 4 hours. The whole time they would give me anything to eat for a day and a half I couldn't even get a glass of water. Brought my husband here today for a procedure. Parking was a little tight with many of the same people circling around trying to secure a spot. The volunteers were helpful at check in. There is a great coffee shop at the main entrance that serves all starbucks and has other food and drink items. There was an older gentleman playing the piano which was just so nice. I went to ER violently vomiting. Triage took 20mins to see me. Once in, I was given morphine/other. Nothing was working. They did labs, prior to telling me results, as I am a med professional, who was married to a doc, sisters are Drs dad was a Dr. [[HIGHLIGHT]]DR. Barb decided, that was I an alcoholic, that I should have not been driving my self to the hospital specifically with my child in the car. The absolute worst ER experience ever! Go anywhere else in the area. After being referred by the Doctor at South County Urgent Care in Westerly to the ER at South County Hospital to have diagnostic tests for my husband who has heart issues, we reluctantly went to South County Hospital. We have had other bad experiences there in the past in the ER. But we went because neither of us felt up for the drive to Boston. We arrived at 3 pm to find just a few others in the waiting room and thought this looked hopeful. How wrong we were! After the intake and some blood drawn, which by the way they always seem to have problems with, we waited for him to be seen. Hours passed and nothing. Remember we are here due to heart issues. Things moved here at an absolute snails pace. We and a couple other patients started joking about having pizza delivery. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We inquired several times at the desk with no information provided.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My husband still not feeling well decided after 71/2 hrs we should leave. 71/2 hrs!! Errr...do not trust what the online signup system says for the ED. (Gives you an "appointment time" and estimated wait time). This was extremely misleading. We arrived on time for our pre-booked time slot (and that was being cautious bc the site said waits for walk ins were 15 minutes at that time anyway) - and it's now 2.5 hours later still in waiting room. We were #2 in line when we arrived. I understand EDs can be backed up and trust whatever is going on back there is what it is. But this online signup system is problematic and very misleading. It seems like a hospital admin invention rather than anything that accurately reflects the situation on the ground. No comments on the quality of care as we haven't had any yet, just be forewarned about the blithe promises of the "online signup system"! read more

Visited the ER in acute septicemia shock with a temp of 105 degrees and BP of 70 over 23. The nurses packed me in ice and ran IVs from all 8 hooks on two IV poles, and administered a fast acting antibiotic. The doctor showed up much later and shipped me off to Miriam Hospital in Providence. The nurses saved my life. Period! read more

I brought my daughter in at 11:20pm, was seen at 4:10am by Dr. Pavlovic. He looked at my daughters issue, diagnosed her with a skin infection on her face (without gloves) & prescribed her an antibiotic. South County Hospital states on their website that they have an "inpatient hospice" program. This is a lie. They may have a referring relationship with Hope Hospice but there are no dedicated private hospice rooms or anything of the sort. In desperation we had reached out to find placement for my grandmother, hoping that we would be able to keep her comfortable and close to home. Only to be told that there is no such place in the hospital or on their campus. I am extremely disappointed and appalled by the deceptive nature of their websites promise for what is meant to be a blessing to families. read more

So, we are on vacation visiting my husband's sister in Jamestown, RI when he takes a horrible fall on her back deck that sends us to the ER of South County Health the following day. (A telehealth call convinced my husband to get seen for what could potentially be a bad situation.) Who likes going to an ER in your own state much less out of your area of comfort? But we had no choice as we were set to fly home the following day to Florida. This was THE BEST emergency room visit experience any of us have ever witnessed and we are so grateful even two weeks+ later. It started with the fact that only one other person was ahead of us. The guy at the front desk was super chill who then turned my husband over to Will. I was then invited to go back to the room with my husband. It continued to get more and more efficient with Bree handling the paperwork followed by Mykayla taking him back for XRays after the PA Amrit Khatrichettri determined that XRays needed to be taken. The diagnosis of a fractured rib with no internal organ damage was exceptional (knowing how much worse it could have been). Then the respiratory therapist Leigh Anne was super kind and informative so that my husband focused on breathing fully in the upcoming days and weeks. All-in-all a great one-hour ER visit that got us in and out and informed. Brought my son, age 7, to the ER, where we got to wait in the ER waiting room for 3 hours. While in the ER waiting room, an alcholic going through withdrawal cussed, punched walls, and made a scnene, the entire time. Once admitted, we waited another 2 hours to get a covid and flu swap. We went in for pains in his side, finally, a doctor who looked to be medicated himself, told us that they could do an xray, or could do an ultrasound, but if they didn't find anything, then they would have to refer us to Hasbro,, and if I did choose to stay at South County to do an xray / ultrasound, we'd be waiting another 2 hours minimum. Long story short, we went to Hasbro, in and out in 3 hours total. Never will I go to South County hospital again. read more

I arrived with my son tonight at 8pm. it is nearly 11pm and we have yet to be seen! He is registered, they took our insurance info., but we haven't seen anyone since. We are beyond disappointed as there were literally no Urgent Care facilities open at 8pm in South County and we were forced to come here. What a frustrating experience!!! I ended up at this ER because it's the only one besides Westerly that I've never been to and quite frankly, my other choices weren't the greatest. I was greeted with an empty waiting room. It was just us. The young man at the desk took my info and had me sit down and wait for triage. The only issue I had in this process was a family came in after we did and he was way more attentive to them for some reason. After he took my info, he told me to have a seat. After he took their info, he walked over to them, very kindly put the patient's bracelet on her, offered a blanket to her and those who accompanied her, and his assistance if they needed anything. Although we were first, I didn't even have a bracelet yet. After he did that with them, he came over to me and said "oh yeah I have a bracelet for you also." And put it on my wrist. Didn't offer me or my company a blanket or anything. No big deal, I just found it odd. I was called into triage first. The triage nurse was very kind and took my info, my vitals, etc., and allowed my fiancé to come in (unlike other RI hospitals). I was immediately taken into the back. Time in the waiting room was less than 15 minutes. Upon getting to the back, I was immediately attended to, with each person introducing themselves and what their role was. (Rachel - Nurse, Tom - PA). They listened to my concerns and immediately ordered the testing I needed (labs and a Ct scan), made sure I had pain medication, and that it didn't make me sick, and once it was confirmed I had repeat diverticulitis, they let me take an active role in my treatment choices, and explained why they thought this or that. I was very impressed with the level of care I received. Mostly everyone was very compassionate and caring, extremely knowledgeable, and they understood my suffering and didn't want to see that happen anymore with this infliction, as this was a repeat infection (diverticulitis is very painful not to mention frustrating). It was about a 45 min drive from my home but well worth it as I received the best ER care here than I've received in ANY RI hospital facility in YEARS. Well done, SCH. Thank you! Four stars for the way we were overlooked in reception. But otherwise? Top notch. read more

Absolute worst experience in the ER, from the staff to security, almost everybody felt belittling. It's like they think that they are much higher on the totem pole than any patient there, just degrading and immoral how they treat their patients. I was even ignored a phone call to my HUSBAND and after still not allowing any visitors, I felt as though I was imprisoned there. Also, after just being in a car accident, they had quickly felt around to see if anything was broken. And that was it. No follow up procedure. Nothing. But at that time, I just wanted to get out so bad that I didn't even want anything done. I didn't want to wait for X-rays or have to deal with any other member of their nursing staff. I would NEVER recommend this place to anybody. If my leg fell off I'd still think twice about revisiting this awful excuse for a hospital. read more

BEST HOSPITAL IN RHODE ISLAND! My husband had cancer the Oncology department and all the Nurses were fantastic! I have NEVER felt more at HOME than being there. They let me stay overnight, every night. They even fed me and the food is delicious. As my husband was healing from cancer he then fell and broke his pelvis and shoulder. Again South County hospital was phenomenal. He again was overnight in the hospital but timing to pick him up wasn't on my side. South County paid for an Uber for him to come home. It's a 30 min drive. We have been to RI hospital which is the WORSE. My husband originally went there for his beginning issues with cancer and was in so much pain. They for some reason through my husband on the street and he was dazed. I had to go find him walking down some pretty sketchy streets. That's how RI Hospital handles things. The Miriam hospital now that's a hospital of mean nurses. My husband had his bladder removed here and had a hard time coming out of anesthesia so they put him in SU (Special Unit as he almost died) and his room was all windows so the "Nurses" at Miriam could "watch him closely" the man somehow called me and all I could get is "thirsty" so yes I am freaking out because he is in a special unit and he needs a drink of water. Miriam does NOT allow spouses overnight. I had to call the SU floor talk to a nurse and I can HEAR my husband buzzer going off and the nurse is like "I hear nothing" BS I could hear him over the phone, I could hear the nurses laughing, talking etc. So Miriam you sucked. South County I do not have one word bad to say about this wonderful hospital. They went above and beyond for us. I will ONLY go to South County even though Kent is 10 min away. No words for Kent go there if you want to die. SOUTH COUNTY BY FAR IS THE BEST HOSPITAL IN RHODE ISLAND. read more

Ive been here for surgery 2 seperate times and experienced top not service from my surgeon and his crew in the preop and op room to the recovery nurses..and floor nurses..physcal therapist and dietician..vert upbeat personable aned equally professional! south county hospital cand er right down to there lab is a joke I just had surgery there and the er miss diagnosed my condition 3 times sending me home in more pain than I was in not one did they take an X-ray ct scan nothing they said it was a pinched nerve went to my doctor it was two hernated disks they did nothing for me I have to have an invasive surgery and they kept me in that filthy dump overnight with no walker bed alarms that went off all knight they did nothing for me I couldn't have done at home the room was disgusting I wouldn't eat the nasty food beign in there laying on a prison bed caused me more pain and suttering as well as angxity there lab is just as bad they lost my ore admission testing the staff was annnoying they don't understand what no means they tried feeding me there garbage food 6 times I was never provided with a walker they had none they took one from someone else so I could use it for 5 minutes I would not recommend anyone going to this hospital there are no compatent people the they are just there screwing the system and insurance companies that's why our medical insurance sucks so bad read more

I'm writing this review with one star based on parking ability I go there quite often to drop someone off and pick someone up every time I go in the parking lot I cannot find a handicap parking spot on the west side of the building because people park there with no handicap parking plaque and employees are parking in the handicap spots two employees are the worst one has a Dodge SUV silver you know it's an employee because it sits there all day and has a sun Shield in the windshield the other is a black Ford I believe may not even be the people's handicap because they use a piece of paper not a parking plaque I've called the hospital call the police station called hospital security nothing has been done and this is pretty much every day not just now and then so I would say if you have an appointment at South County Hospital and you are handicapped probably should have someone drop you off because you won't find a handicap spot on the west side of the hospital read more
