I am so thankful to work alongside so many passionate and dedicated staff and volunteers to help the homeless in Orange County. I am proud to work with such intelligent and capable staff and be part of a mission that is good and outstanding. I have only bern here for 2 months but have had so many impactful moments. Last week a sweet, older Hungarian man came to South County Outreach and said to me, "I haven't eaten in 3 days, I am so hungry, can i get something to eat?" We got him and his son turkey sandwiches and water for breakfast and he came back later that day and left with a cart full of fresh produce and groceries. This is why I feel proud to be part of South County Outreach! Visit us at 7 Whatney Suite B Irvine, CA 92618

I found Orange County Rescue Mission and I love the support they provide for the community so I decided I wanted to give my donations to them. I've previously had my donations picked up, or gone to donation bins, or dropped a few things off at Goodwill. Orange County Rescue Mission has a drive thru drop-off for your donations. I had 5 boxes, so a lovely gentleman brought a bin on wheels over and helped me put my boxes inside. He asked if I would need a receipt for my taxes but I politely declined. I do believe the items I donated had good value but I don't have much experience with taxes and previous receipts I've gotten usually end up missing by tax season. Prior to donating my things, I was able to go on their website and see exactly what items they accept. This helped a LOT because there were actually a lot of items I wouldn't have even considered donating like unused toiletries. I would probably try to give them to a family member or a friend of perhaps end up just tossing it away. I'm really glad they provide a list of acceptable items for donating!! I hope other people who wish to donate items really do READ lists such as this one, so they are aware of what can be donated. I just remembered people from my past who would try to donate opened foods, & insisted they were still good because they were non-perishables. Some people just don't know you can't donate ANYTHING. I don't understand people who donate things that they wouldn't use, if the same or similar item were donated to them (in the same manner). Some behaviors are perplexing. Anyway!! I LOVE this place and I'm currently working on filling up another 3 boxes. I'll have to go buy some more boxes so I can start sorting through my storage unit as well!! I do have a few questions on some items and what condition they must be in to be accepted for donation. I'm pretty sure they had a number on the same page that I could call and ask, which I will be doing, just haven't gotten around to it yet! I'm really happy I found this place & recommend others to donate items & volunteer here if they have the time! (:

This review is specifically for the large group of board and care homes, known as The Cottages,…read morethat ALZ OC owns and operates. In early 2021, ALZ OC took over the board and care home in which my frail, medically fragile mother receives her dementia and hospice care. Unfortunately, my experience with them has been one of almost continuous frustration and disappointment. I have done absolutely everything I can to establish clear communication with the program administrators, and to accommodate their "growing pains," but after almost an entire year, it is my opinion that ALZ OC has proven to be incapable of managing this house with the safety and comfort of it's residents at the forefront, which is what families like mine pay them several thousand dollars a month to do. Because of near constant staffing shortages and inconsistencies; documentation failures and errors; poorly managed behavioral issues with other residents, and sub-standard facility maintenance, I feel a responsibility to leave a review of my terrible experience with ALZ OC so that other families, who are already overwhelmed with the daily needs of their loved one with dementia, don't make their lives more difficult by looking to the current iteration of The Alzheimer's Association in Orange County for help. I hope this review encourages the leadership of ALZ OC to overhaul the protocol and management of these homes, but it is my understanding that the organization continues to acquire new homes that they do not have the capacity to manage appropriately. It's disheartening that they would risk the reputation of a beloved charity like The Alzheimer's Association for what appears to be reckless, careless, profit driven market expansion.

And I was seeing thousands of kids around the world that needed homes -- Sam Brownback It is not the physical pain that endangers orphans the most. It is the mental pain caused by stress from years and years of being neglected, pushed aside, disregarded, unloved, and made to feel undeserving, and in almost all cases, made to feel like a possession rather than an equal human being. Even more it is the lack of unconditional love, the right to be accepted, as a child and to be loved, as a child, no matter what you do is the most wounding. -- Roger Dean Kiser, from Orphan - A true Story of Abandonment, Abuse and Redemption. Part II of Sidney Writes About Doing Good The Roger Kiser quote completely devastated me the first time that I read it. And I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried. It crystallized for me everything I felt growing up...everything that I wanted in this life. I grew up in a broken home...never knew my Father...my mom was a struggling single mom with two kids. She worked full time, and then being a child of the 60's, partied like that was her second full time job. I knew with my son, that I had to be 100% different...that even though my relationship did not work out, he would always know the unconditional love and support that I never had. He is indeed lucky that he has two parents that love and adore him very much. It also explains why I feel so strongly that everyone needs to give back to their community. This whole nonsense of "I Built That" is just that: nonsense. So much of one's success is nothing more than an accident of birth (not that enough people get that). I always want to ask the typical OC preening peacock: What if you were born a slave? Or a Chinese peasant? Or a woman in the Dark Ages? Or in the middle of the Somalian or Congo Civil War? How magnificent would you be then? It is what I try and teach my son especially since he is growing up in the bubble of the OC with no real wants or needs unmet. He got lucky with two loving parents who adore him and who have the financial resources to take care of him. Corazon de Vida Foundation supports a dozens orphanages in Baja California. Per the website: "As some background, Mexico does not have a foster care system to support children in need due to neglect, abuse, or abandonment. There is no welfare system to help families with a single parent that is unable to provide for their children. So, the only way to support families and children in need is through a network of orphanages. At last count, there are approximately 50 orphanages in Baja California, Mexico. Most are located close to the border because most of their support comes from the US." They run several trips a month to the homes where individuals or groups can visit the children (and play and interact) or do needed service. You can also sponsor a child, donate online, host a party or make a difference in a variety of other ways. Now, many of my Yelp friends enjoy Sababa in Long Beach. Corazon is hosting a social soiree for only $10.00 on October 17th. Tickets can be purchased here: http://oct17soiree.eventbrite.com/ There will be a appetizers, drinks, a raffle. And hey, I will be there too :) It is a tremendous organization that does an amazing amount of work for the neglected children of Mexico.
