Let me just say, this place and all the people in it are FABULOUS! I moved to Sacramento almost a year ago and I refuse to find a closer vet because they are the best! I've been to my fair share of vets that just rudely rush you in and out and view both you and your pet as walking business transactions. At South Davis vet this is NOT the case. Everyone here treats you and your pet like one of the family. My little Riley and I both adore Dr. Grimes. She is so patient and helpful and totally dotes on my doggy. I never feel rushed and I completely trust her and the whole staff with my doggy. One of the ladies (I'm not sure of her name) has even shaved Riley's crazy paw hair for me on multiple occasions if we're just waiting around! They really are a very caring group that goes out of their way for their clients. I recommend that everyone bring their precious furry friends here! read more

I showed up a few mins. early and although I'd been a client for over twenty years, they played the technology card;"Our computers don't allow us to access the other computers" therefore they asked that I fill out the "new client" form. Because I didn't fill out the form completely they asked that I give them all the personal information. Well, this was 4:35pm so I suggested that they take the dog in and I'll run home to get the required info. The young lady had to go back into the office and check with the Dr./new owner. She came back and said that would work. "Due to protocol", she had a little leash that she brought out and put onto my hound. It was not a leash with a snap, it was a loop that tightened if the dog resisted. This dog knows about the vets office and he wasn't about to let this masked little girl drag him in the office. ("Due to protocol" pet owners are not allowed in the clinic.) I'm wearing a mask and take my temperature all the time. Regardless, she was losing the tug of war and was choking the crap out of my dog. I stepped in and ended the contest and left without having the foxtail removed from the mutts ear. He was hacking a little from the throttling the assistant gave him but he's a tough SOB and he was as happy as a clam to of showed those little girls who's going to take him anywhere. Nice people but not as smart as this man's dog. "Due to protocol", I will not ever take another animal to this clinic. "You can't fix stupid." P.S. I took the hound to "Banfield Clinic" in Vacaville the next morning and the foxtail was removed without incident. Dear Doctor, Your UCD educated "technicians" choked my dog with your lame leash and are, in my opinion, obviously not qualified to handle my dog. The next morning the technicians at Banfield Clinic had no problem leading him into their facility and two male Drs. easily removed the foxtail with no sedation. I was charged an extra $26 because these men had to hold him firmly so that they could get him to submit. He had a scratch on his right eyeball in January. I was holding him but he submitted to the lady vet promptly. She has over thirty years experience. My dog won the tug of war with that nice young lady that was unintentionally strangling him, due to your protocols. My dog weighs 53.3lbs. so I would say, that that nice young lady was not quite big enough. My dog believes as I do, we must peacefully defy ignorance and brutality. read more

I have been taking my dog to this South Davis Vet for a couple of years now, the facility is always clean and the staff is extremely helpful, I absolutely love my dogs Vet. I am very happy with the care my dog receives .I do not live in Davis, I always take a drive when we need to go to the Vet. I wouldn't have it any other way 100 percent worth the drive. read more

The entire practice is outstanding. Everyone is caring, compassionate, very patient and understanding. You can tell they really love animals. All advice and education was appropriate. When my beloved Jameson had to be put to sleep due to an aggressive and intrusive cancer, we both received the best possible care. They were so kind to me and treated us both with such respect. Once I took Jameson in because he had eaten an entire pan of brownies--and I was scared--and feeling guilty! The wonderful vet was so great--he looked at me and said "he's a Lab! This is what they do! Eat everything!" and I felt better. I am moving to another state and this practice is what I will miss the most. I really felt that both myself and my pets were valued there. I love the staff at South Davis Veterinary Center. I drive all way from South Sacramento. That is how I love them! They are great with details. They are awesome with my dogs; black lab and American bully. My dogs are always happy to go there. One time, Tiki (American Bully) got a foxtail lodged up deep in his nose. I called the vet. They were able to see Tiki within 20 minutes. The staff got the foxtail out within an hour. I am amazed with their awesome service. They were busy that day, I remember. I am forever grateful!! Truly terrible veterinary clinic. They refuse to call in prescriptions or even speak with online pharmacies. I've spent thousands of dollars with them over the last two years and deeply regret it. That I've been such a good customer and yet they refuse to even pick up the phone for you indicates the quality of customer service you can expect at this clinic. Avoid them at costs! I've been taking my two dogs to this clinic for years. Their staff is very nice, and all the vets there are great. My spoiled pup cried --- or perhaps a more appropriate term is 'squealed' --- when he was left alone in his cage after getting fixed, so the staff and docs took turns carrying him around or letting him sit in their laps the entire day! The prices at this clinic are pretty average when compared to other vets in the area. Their hours are convenient, especially for those of us who can never get home from work before dinner time; on weekdays they are open until 8pm. I've also always been able to get a same-day appointment. There have been times when I had to wait 15 to 20 minutes even with an appointment, but I suppose that is no different from when humans go to the doctor. Overall I highly recommend this clinic. They'll even put a picture of your pet on their slideshow of patients that cycles on their flat screen tv in the waiting room! read more

Wow, I feel so fortunate to live walking distance to this place. They are caring, friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating, respectful of your time, etc. etc. I could go on and on. They care about all the details, and that all adds up to great care for your pets. What more could you want? Dr. Collins is awesome. I LOVE South Davis Veterinary Center. I used to be a client at another veterinary clinic, but was less than satisfied for a few reasons. After my dog sustained an injury to his leg, I wen to my other vet twice for his leg and only received minimal information about what it was or what I could do for his leg or the amount of exercise he could have. I finally did some research. After reading the reviews about South Davis and a few others, I decided to schedule an appointment. Even though is was a holiday week (New Years) and it was not a real emergency, they still got me it on that Friday. We saw Dr. Yackey. He was AMAZING! Rather than putting my dog on the table (where he is sometimes uncomfortable due the height off the ground), Dr. Yackey sat on the floor, visited with me and my dog and did the full exam right there on the floor. After the exam, Dr. Yackey gave me his thoughts of what it was and let me know how much exercise my dog could have to get the leg healed. THEN on Friday last week, my dog injured his opposite leg playing at the park. I tried to let him walk it off, but he was still favoring it. That evening I called to get their opinion, They didn't have any appointments available (which I didn't expect them to), but the receptionist put me on hold and talked with the Dr. She came back and gave me some ideas for the evening and said to call on Saturday if he was still in pan. On Saturday morning, I had to do some work and had not called yet, but the office called me around 9:30 to see how he was doing. They also had an 11:00 appointment come open and asked if I wanted to go in. I took the appointment and, again, Dr. Yackey met with us and was again AMAZING with is bedside manner and his help about how much exercise to do and for how long. read more

I have been taking my two corgis here since they were first brought home at 10 weeks, starting about 7 years ago, and loved the experiences I have any time I bring them in! I've had good interactions with all of the vets and each has been kind, caring, and compassionate when an exam is being done. I took my dog in for a check up. I was recommended a lot of things that the vet had a hunch were related to one thing that was wrong with my dog. I had to respectfully decline a couple of things the vet wanted to add to my bill. And my dog has been fine since. Other than that the place is nice, clean. The staff is friendly. I would just caution one going in not to take them up on everything they recommend. Do a bit of research first and take sometime to think it over. read more

Our family has used South Davis Vet for three years now. We see Dr. Collins for our dog Roxy. Recently, we made an appointment for a skin rash and upset stomach. To make a long story short, during our exam with Dr. Collins, Roxy started vomiting which was very unusual for her. While most vets might have said that our dog had a virus and sent us home with medicine, Dr. Collins recognized that the situation was unusual. After two x-rays and an ultrasound we discovered that Roxy had eaten a piece of cloth. This process for diagnosis did take a couple of days but once we discovered what was going on Dr. Collins immediately reacted and had us at an overnight emergency care hospital. I just want to say thank you to Dr. Collins and the staff at South Davis Vet who is always willing to go above and beyond for our baby Roxy. She is the world to us and so are you for caring about her well being. Unfortunately, our family is moving back east. We will miss the care that has been given to Roxy. I don't think we will ever find a better doctor or vet practice for our baby Roxy! Thank you for saving her! I would recommend this practice to anyone who is looking for a vet practice that is willing to be proactive and genuinely cares for their clients pets. read more

This team is fantastic. We have two dogs that we've taken here now for several years, One is not the friendliest with the vet (any vet) and yet they are always patient and seem to find a way to get him to settle down. Recently we had to have him in for surgery and the care was excellent. They followed up the next day to check in, then a couple days later Dr. Collins called himself from his car on the way home late at night to check up on our dog. We've never had anything but exceptional care for our dog at this place. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

I cannot say enough about Dr. Yackey and the other wonderful vets and vet techs here. We've been coming to South Davis Vet for about 7 years now and I wish we would have found it sooner. They are fantastic at breaking down all your treatment options, educating you in a non-guilting way, understanding your stressors and budget and working with you to keep your pet in the best of health. Dr. Yackey performed a house call when it was time to say goodbye to our beloved pooch. He and his tech were incredibly sensitive and professional. They made the process as easy as possible for us and even sent a card about a week after. Everyone who works there obviously adores animals. Their bedside manner should be taught to human doctors! Personally, I wish I could be a patient at South Davis. They're as good as it gets and worth every penny. read more

I have mixed feeling about this place. The office is clean and the front desk staff is friendly. There are pretty pictures on the wall and the office is well appointed. There are revolving vets however. The prices are high ( $1600 to neuter my dog and update yearly vaccines, $1200-1400 for a teeth cleaning ). The new vet who seemed like a recent grad vaccinated my collie partially then I found that she wasn't vaccinated for rabies and he wanted me to come back in two weeks for a second visit so it was absolutely one year later ( in the OCD kind of way). This is not the biggest issue I had however. I had a 15 year old dog who had a cough and it turned out to be lymphoma. The doctor said it was treatable palliatively but really couldn't recommend one oncologist over another. She also said that if it came to end of life, the clinic was not comfortable putting a dog down so I would have to find another vet who puts dogs down such as a hospice vet. So I spent nearly $1000 on biopsy and consult w South Davis then $450 with another vet ( in another business) to discuss palliative care ( pain control ) options and how to ease the dying process when it was time ( beloved pet mobile who is incredible) and then $1000 more with oncologist ( vista also incredible though large) This was in a week because my dog was acutely worsening. My issue more than cost was how hands off the vets were. I was notified results by phone and then left high and dry on what to do and where to go next with an aging dog with cancer. We chose chemo and learned a lot about pain control from beloved pet. When my dog had a reoccurrence a year later and went into an acute pain episode and I called if the gabapentin could be refilled, I was told that South Davis was neither a dispensary or prescribing place by the manager. I called vista who I didn't see in months and they called in the medication. So there you go, the story of how my dog was treated at the end of his life by a vet clinic that was following him for several years. read more

So relieved to have found a fabulous vet for my dog!! Dr. Yackey is super knowledgeable, has an excellent bedside manner with my dog, and is a really nice guy. He knows his stuff! He takes the time to answer all my questions and offers advice/information that I didn't think of asking but am grateful to know. The staff is great, the clinic is clean. They have a internet web portal which allows me to look up my dog's health information whenever I want. Recently, my dog suffered a dog bite and Dr. Yackey and his staff were able to fit us into his fully booked schedule that day which was very much appreciated by this doggie-mom! Our beloved boxer Trey has had his issues over the years. And to no surprise, the poor guy ended up with some pretty serious ear issues recently. A good friend recommended Dr. Collins at South Davis Veterinary Center and although we live in Rancho Murieta, we felt it was worth the drive to make sure our pup got the care he needed. And the drive was WELL WORTH IT. We've been to numerous vets in the past, but the service we received from Dr. Collins was unparralelled. His attention to detail and knowledge helped ease our concerns and gave us comfort that Trey was in good hands. And he worked with us to discuss options to make sure we felt comfortable and understood the procedure that was needed to remedy the situation. Just thought I'd give an update that our kitten ended up reversing the positive FeLV with love and a special diet. She is now 100% negative according to 3 different veterinarians who verified her results..... FeLV isn't a death sentence for kittens despite what this veterinarian believes. read more

Super nice, informative, easy to access clinic. I was able to book an appointment the day before, which I couldn't do anywhere else in Davis. HOWEVER, the prices are extremely high. As a college student, I try to budget as much as possible while still receiving the same level of care for my kitten. But when I brought her in for her vaccinations, they gave her a FVRCP vaccine for $30 and said I need to come in two more times! That's $90 for one vaccine! And then they convinced me that the FELv vaccine was mandatory but I looked it up and it's very rare and should only be given to kittens who will be exposed to stray cat fights.. another $70 just for blood work to even start the vaccine. I've researched, and FVRCP commonly costs $10-20, for a total cost of $30-$60. Am I missing something here? I think I'll just be taking my cat to the petco vaccination vans from now on, help biweekly for low-cost vet care. I can't afford this read more

After 9 months of runaround and costly visits at another vet I decided to take my cat back here. after one visit I already have more answers than I could have hoped for. This place is the best. Wonderful Veterinarians! They were able to originally fit me and my kitty in as an emergency and they truly listened to my cats health history. My previous vet usually insisted on unnecessary x-rays and blood draws before addressing that my cat was dehydrated with hairballs. When I took my cat to the vet and described her continuing issue with hairballs they addressed my concern with dehydration and allowed a waiting period before expensive, traumatizing, and unnecessary tests. I immediately transferred my cat to this practice. I have seen multiple vets at this practice and all of them are great. I added a new kitten to my household and they were thorough and helpful, recommending a new vet clinic when I moved. read more

I took my 2 cats to South Davis Vet Center today and was so impressed that I felt compelled to write a review THE SAME DAY. I recently moved to Davis from Sac and wanted to establish a primary vet for the "kids". I called around to a different vet place first, but felt completely brushed off, like they didn't want to answer my questions. I called South Davis Vet Center and had all of my questions answered with even more information that I thought I needed, but I'm glad they talked to me about it! My appointment ended up being over an hour because I had so many questions, but I NEVER felt like they were trying to just "get through" my session to get to the next. Dr. Grimes was SO FREAKIN AWESOME and actually had a sense of humor when it came to my cats. Every other place I had been to always made me feel rushed. I left the center feeling more educated and more in tune about what I should be doing with my cats. Price-wise, they gave me estimates on EVERYTHING and even grouped it all out for me. They showed me how much I would spend if I got the "bare minimum" of services and they showed me how much it would cost to get everything with the bells and whistles. Even though they had both prices, they never pressured me to lean one way or the other. I hope to stay with this place for years, but regardless, we are off to an amazing start! read more

These people are such professionals when it comes to animal care and truly value each individual animals welfare. I have often struggled with vets ordering tests or recommending treatments that I wasn't sure were absolutely necessary but that is not the case here. I started going here because the other vet I went to had such limited availability for appointments. South Davis is open more and seems to be staffed better? I can get same day appointments a lot, which is amazing. Then I basically transitioned to going only to south davis vet because they're pretty awesome. Friendly, better follow up, I feel like they are more thorough with options and diagnoses, etc. Their nail trims are even cheaper by a few bucks than the other place, as long as your pet isn't hard to handle. After many years of bringing my cats here, I am finally getting around to giving them the kudos they so deserve. The doctors here are kind, compassionate, and truly take time with your pets. Through various issues with three of my cats, they have always been willing to take the time to talk with me about symptoms and options for their care. They are quick to return calls and messages, often after hours, and I believe they care for my boys almost as much as I do. A few years ago when we had a cat who was ready to pass on, they even came to the house to make his last moments peaceful. I can't say enough good things about Drs. When my kitty needed further tests, they were great to review my options and assisted by referring me to an oncologist. We have had great experiences with South Davis Vet. We switch from another Vet in Davis because we were having a hard time getting same day appointments when there was an urgent need but not necessarily a situation where we wanted to pay for an emergency visit at UCD. They are very accommodating, and Dr Collins is great. We have rescue animals who each have their own issues, and South Davis is able to conquer all of them. Even the little one who likes to bite people is able to get his exams and lab work done without incident. I highly recommend this clinic! read more

I've been bringing my dog Beast here for a few years now and the staff is AMAZING. In the past, it was hard taking Beast to see any vet, however he immediately felt comfortable with the staff at South Davis. His primary veterinarian was Dr. Collins, but he has been seen by almost every veterinarian there and I LOVE THEM ALL. Everyone is kind, informative, and treat Beast like a friend.
