South G kitchen is a cool spot in the south of G street in Arcata California. I hesitate to say it's a food truck even though it is because it's permanently parked at the redwood curtain brewery. So you have access to amenities like tables to eat at and bathrooms. The beer at the brewery is not bad and the bartenders are super welcoming. The location is slightly unfortunate but the parking is great and the food is worth it. It's a good jump off point if you are heading south. The elevated Californian bar food is really the thing you are here for. There are some healthy options and the food is outstandingly delicious! The black garlic aioli is a delicacy on its own honestly. Yes, great burgers and especially fries but also salads and fun bowls. I've obviously been here many times. Tonight I had the grilled fish Katsu sandwich and the Parmesan Black Garlic Fries. The fries have this extra crunchy quality and they are correctly crisp. The pickled daikon and sesame slaw on the sandwich was fresh, touchingly acidic, and added a nice crunch to the sandwich. I liked the spicy mayo but wondered if I wanted more black garlic aioli. The bun isn't overly remarkable but it's a good vehicle for the properly cooked fish and previously described garnishes. I ordered online. My food was done before the estimated time. Fairly priced and high quality food. What can I say? The place hits! P.S When I realized I forgot to take a picture it was too late and nothing looked as pretty as it did when I got it. This is the food truck attached to Redwood Curtain brewing company. I have recently had two excellent meals there. The Smashburger is the best burger in town hands-down! The black garlic beef tacos are out of this world! Just the right amount of sauce and pickled onions and so much flavor packed in each bite. I really like their fries too. They are better than loco Fish Co. Fries, that used to be my favorite. The fish sando is also a good choice. Fresh fish, topped with delicious sauce between a delicious bun, yum! I really wanted to love the kale Caesar. It's not the best I've had, and I'll keep ordering it in hopes it improves. If you want quality pub food with your favorite local beer this is the place for you! If you are rolling through town and want a great place to stop for lunch or dinner this is a good spot. This is a must stop if you're near Arcata. Lots of delicious choices on the menu for all ages. You enter through the Redwood Curtain Brewery and head over to the food truck to order. Lots of covered outdoor seating as well as a lovely area inside to eat and drink a nice variety of the local brews. We ordered the Kale Cesar, fish sando and the special, fried avocado tacos. South G Kitchen actually has one of the better burgers in town. It won't blow your mind, but it holds up to Toni's and Stars. It's a food truck that's 'permanently' installed in the Redwood Curtain brewery. Food can sometimes take a while to make and can definitely get messy while eating. The Voodoo Bueger was good but practically exploded in your hands as you ate it and the Danky Bread was strange. Not bad but not good with a burger, stick with fries. read more

Exceptional food. Simple, flavorful, wholesome. I come from San Francisco and have a high bar. This place doesn't disappoint. My favorites were black garlic and beef tacos, black garlic Parmesan fries, and crispy sweet potatoes and goat cheese salad. All amazing. The food I received from this food truck was good and it was served up quickly. If that's all you need then you could read this as a 4 star review. Unfortunately, the employees are unnecessarily rude, gruff, and generally unfriendly. It was like I was inconveniencing them by ordering. It appears they must be trying for this persona as it was the person taking my order and a different person who handed me my food. I made no special requests except to ask if I could get a knife when I picked up. In response, I was just told, "No". Not, "There's utensils and napkins in that door." Got the black garlic fries, smash burger, and the cheesesteak. It was sooo delicious! The fries were crispy and they dont skimp on the toppings the burger was cooked perfectly and the sauce on it went perfectly and the toppings tasted so fresh! Finally got a day off to visit this new food truck on South G. It's located in the back patio of Redwood Curtain Brewery. We got the veggie smash burger and the black garlic beef tacos. Both were absolutely delicious. They said it would be a 25 minute wait and it was on the dot. And well worth the wait. In the meantime got two tasty beers from the bar inside. South G Kitchen doesn't disappoint. The food is consistently good. Fresh and flavorful. Tonight I shared the Apple Cheddar salad with mustard vinaigrette and their special Pad Thai Tacos with a friend. We loved the salad. The tacos were good with a spicy peanut sauce but were mostly filled with cabbage and chow mein noodles and hardly any shrimp. While the flavors were good, it was a little disappointing to find little to no shrimp included. Others at our table enjoyed the Cubano sandwich special which were enjoyed. I want to preface that I've been here once before, and really wanted to like it because friends had said it was "really good." In my experience it was meh. The first time I went I ordered a fried fish sando and some fries. The sando ended up being flavorless. The seasoned fries with the black garlic truffle sauce actually made me want to come back. This combo is This last time I went I ordered the Miso Arcata Salad. I was hoping for a crunchy fresh salad. Instead I was handed a sad lookin bowl of wilted greens. I took my first bite in hopes that I'd still enjoy the salad. Nope, I would not. I was met with a wall of salt it was so unbearable I asked for a lemon wedge to balance out the overpowering amount of salt. I almost returned the salad, but I didn't want to be "that person". Overall, the price is high for what you get. Either no flavor or too much salt. I write this review in hopes that the chefs will read this and consider making adjustments. read more
