Had our first visit here last week and will update as it goes: + They cater to children 100%. From the open layout, abundance of activities, cool token system for prizes, and the way they talk to kids they truly put them first and foremost. + Dr. Erin spent over 5 minutes just talking with us, answering questions and kicking some serious knowledge in layman terms. This may not seem like a ton of time, but 5 minutes of Doctor Time = at least 35 minutes of regular folk time so it was quite a boon. + / - The layout of the exam room is completely open with four exam chairs. This is great for reducing anxiety because kids can see all their peers going through the same thing. However, if you've got a kid that tends to "act up" or "spaz out" (in the parlance of my time) the layout can actually whip the energy level up to an 11. My oldest kid (5yo) needs some serious calming down, which means a minimum of distractions and voices, so for now this setup isn't ideal for him. The TV in the ceiling helps, but perhaps too much. I am one of those people that hates to pacify my kid with screen time, however compelling the latest drama in Paw Patrol may be. Overall a pretty great place. They are stuffed full of clients so call now for your appointment in a few months. read more

My young daughter had an appointment for a cavity to be filled. Because of her age, they suggested sedation so she would stay still during the appointment. Before the sedation kicked in they put a device in her mouth to keep it open. The device also prevented her from being able to speak; therefore, the person doing the sedation didn't ask her any questions to help her judge if my daughter was sedated or not. They gave her the shot to numb the area and my daughter had a terrible reaction. During the count down the person responsible for the sedation (Kim) kept telling her to breath through her nose...which makes me think she knew my daughter was reacting so strongly because she wasn't fully sedated. After that, the dental assistant took out what she called tooth jewelry and my daughter completely lost it and was unable to calm down at which point we decided to stop any further work because my daughter was reacting so badly to what was happening to her. My daughter got up and was able to walk out of the room unassisted. She was also talking clearly and normally, and it was obvious the sedation hadn't kicked in yet. She got in the car fine and about 5 minutes later her speech was slurred. When we got home (20 minutes later) she was unable to walk on her own. She was basically a limp noodle and I had to carry her inside. Obviously the sedation had kicked in at that point. Later in the afternoon I called to express my concern that my daughter was not sedated before they gave her the shot. I talked to the person who was responsible for the sedation and who also gave my daughter the shot to numb the area. Her name is Kim. Kim asked me three times if my daughter had anything to eat or drink that morning. I told her she didn't three times. She asked if she had been under any stress lately because that could effect the sedation and I said no. The reason I called was to let her know my daughter obviously wasn't sedated. I wanted Kim to acknowledge that fact, and provide suggestions on how to prevent it from happening in the future. Suggestions such as waiting a few minutes longer and also asking my daughter questions to see if her speech was slurred or not. An apology would have also been nice. What I got instead was Kim's refusal to acknowledge my daughter wasn't sedated and a list of accusations and excuses. She said she couldn't wait very long to start because the appointment takes 45 minutes and if they don't start within a certain window the sedation could wear off before the appointment was over. Her appointment was at 8am and the sedation didn't start wearing off til well after 10am. They could have waited 5 more minutes. They could've asked her questions to see if her speach was slurred. I will never take my daughter to South Hill Pediatric Dentistry again. After the incident no one followed up with me to see how my daughter was doing. I had to call them at about 4pm. Previous appointment all went great. After that last one yhey've lost all of my trust and respect and we won't be going back. As we were walking to the car my daughter said she hates the dentist for the first time. Great! read more

The staff at South Hill Pediatric Dentistry are very attentive, warm, informative and competent. My daughter needed a "princess crown" and our experience was effortless from the first conversation with the Dentist to the thorough communication about the procedure from the front desk. I would highly recommend and will be going back for cleanings and other dental needs! read more

We can't say in words just how effortless and easy it was to have all "6" of our children(1,3,4,10,11, and 13) see the dentist and hygienists in one day! Our interaction with the staff from the minute we walked in was so warm and friendly. They all went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and informed through the entire process. Our kids loved the waiting room and even sitting in the chairs for their cleaning! Tv screens on the ceiling were a plus and helped them relax throughout the whole process. We can't say enough about our experience with South Hill Pediatric Dentistry and will be referring all of our friends. read more

I am so thankful for your staff. My daughter is 4 1/2 years old and usually does really well with the dentist. This time she was scared and was reluctant to do anything which surprised me. Your hygienist and dentist you're so good with her. And even though she didn't actually get her teeth cleaned helped encourage her and even offered to do a fun Visit in the future. Thank you so much. Lastly your new facility is absolutely beautiful. Really helped us feel comfortable and welcome. I wish my dentist office looked like this. read more

Very impressed with my first visit here. Great professionalism, customer service, and most importantly focus on the kiddos. Play areas abound and each and every staff member was very kind and engaging with my child. I was nervous to try and do a dental exam with a squirmy kid but they have it down to a science and really educate you so you can prepare for the visit. read more

Always so friendly! Always so accommodating! Even got a gift card for a bit of a wait past my appointment time but they were very busy! Can't believe my son sits so still the whole time but they just make him feel so comfortable every time! This place rocks, all the staff does. And the new location is also...awesome. Appointment was at 1200. Arrived at 11:45. No one told me they were behind or on time. Rather, employees sat there laughing and taking. At 12:10 someone comes out and finally gets my son. No apology or anything for being behind. Poor communication. Disappointed to say the least. Patient safety, and communication should always be a priority. read more

I am highly satisfied with the exceptional care from South Hill Pediatric Dentistry. The receptionists are friendly, professional and efficient. The office itself is warm and welcoming--the décor is adorable! The hygienists are truly outstanding. It is obvious they have extensive experience with children. They know how to talk to kids, put them at ease and they do their jobs with great care. The doctors are kind and helpful. I have never felt rushed. They always listen to concerns and go above and beyond to find resolution. My 6-year-old has a dental concern that they have been following. I seriously can't say enough good things about this place! We spent way to long at another popular children's dentist office. The way they treat you and your child is impeccable. We transferred both our daughters to this office and they both love the dentist now. Our 9 year old had two extractions and a filling today. The office was amazing, as well as all three of the people who worked on my daughters teeth. They made sure she was so calm, they told her in very sweet child "detail" what they were doing, and they allowed me in the room (this was a huge no no at the old place) It was such a positive experience for a not so fun procedure. My family and I LOVE love love this dental office! Dr's Becky and Erin are wonderful. As well as their staff. They make it a fun experience for the kids instead of a scary one. They give away prizes, and give your kids incentives to keep their teeth healthy. So happy we found this place. read more

This was the fourth dentist we were referred to. The previous three had said they were not able to help my daughter fill a cavity because her gums were covering half of the tooth. We have state insurance and had to pay out of pocket for the last assessment. When we called South Hill Pediatric they worked with the insurance and we had an appointment. When we came in we were treated kindly and the office was beautiful. Upon looking at my daughter; Dr. Erin gave us our options and they were able to fix my daughters tooth the same day. If you have been bounced around and told your child can not get help, I would recommend you call this office. We were treated professionally and not made to feel that we caused my child this cavity. My hope is that more parents do not have to go to four dentists. It is hard to find good help with state insurance; but this dentistry is proof that there are dentists willing to! I highly recommend them to any parent no matter what insurance to give them a call. read more
