My fur child tore her Achilles from her heel a few days prior to Thanksgiving. My regular vet referred us to Dr. Bob Hancock of South Paws knowing that this injury would require surgery. This was a very painful injury and Dr. Hancock performed the surgery the day after our initial consultation with him. It's been a long road and my girl's final cast was removed yesterday. So far, so good. Dr. Hancock and his staff have been wonderful. They treated my sweet girl with love and kindness. They were gentle, which put me at ease, as she was very afraid and in so much pain. They were so cheerful and seemed genuinely happy to see us when we came in for checkups and cast changes. They're located on the Causeway service road in Mandeville, so it was a hike for me, but my vet said that if it was his dog, Dr. Hancock is the surgeon he'd choose. My only issues were the charges for cast changes - I thought that all charges were included in the price quote I received prior to the surgery, but they weren't. Each cast change, with the exception of 1 when she wasn't sedated, cost $130. There were several. The surgery itself was pricey, but I completely understand. This was orthopedic surgery. I just wish all costs had been disclosed prior to the procedure. It wouldn't have changed my decision, but I would have been better prepared. Please don't misunderstand though, they took such good care of my girl, and I'm grateful to them for their kindness, their tolerance of my blubbering before and after the surgery, their professionalism, and the way they didn't make me feel badly every time my dog pooped in the middle of their lobby - literally every time we walked in. They're the bomb.

Adopting a rescue puppy you don't always know what you're getting into. Unfortunately that was the case with one of my dogs who had an angular limb deformity. My local veterinarian recommended to schedule an appointment at South Paws to see what actions we could take to correct her legs. We set a date for corrective surgery for her leg. The staff called me twice a day on the day of surgery and while she was there recovering (and gave me reassurance all the other times I called to check in). For post-op, the therapists TRUELY make a difference in the recovery plus I know my pup enjoyed all the chicken get got rewarded with.

My little Jack was referred to South Paw, after he sustained a fracture in a front leg after a vehicle impact. Jack is my special little guy and the only dog I have ever rescued so I felt a responsibility to get him the best care available. Dr Bob and his amazing staff treated me, m y husband and little Jack like family and it made this tough time much easier . I am beyond pleased with his care and also the talent in this office . Jack is only 5 lbs, and the surgery was very technical because of the location of the fracture and his little size. We are now 6 weeks post op. And Jack is doing well beyond our expectations. If it was not for his gnarly scar you would never know 2 months ago he was in a coma in ICU. We will always be grateful for Dr. Bob and all the staff at South Paw.

When my dog suddenly went lame southpaws was recommended to treat him. It was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. They made what could've been a very scary and stressful situation for me and my pup into a wonderful experience Every single person I interacted with was so kind and seemed to love my dog (and all pets really lol) as much I as did. I hope my dog never needs the services they provide again but if he does I'll bring him back again w/o a moments hesitation.

I understand why some people may not be happy but also understand the challenges of trying to diagonse when the patient can't tell you what they are experiencing. If you are trying to find a highly rated vet, you are probably going to find it difficult unless they only have a handful of reviews. People rarely take the time to post good reviews.

Said he was in panic mode and it was to calm him down. The entire way to the hospital he was cognizant, calm, his head was up, & not aspirating. No panicking in any capacity. The heart is a muscle and after she gave him a muscle relaxer, he couldn't breathe, & in an oxygen tent, with oxygen tubing. We had to put him to sleep. . It would've been over $6000 to get him to breathe on his own again and even then they didn't think he'd live. These people killed my dog. If an animal is struggling after water inhalation, do not give a muscle relaxer. THE HEART IS A MUSCLE. Duh! That's just common sense. Spoke to a friend who's a the DVM in Texas and he was shocked at what they did to my baby boy. These people have no clue what they're doing. I'LL NEVER FORGIVE THESE PEOPLE. Don't serve insult to injury by giving a cookie cutter response; (i.e.we're so sorry..) not interested and it won't bring my Malinois back. Being nice/kind doesn't equate to being competent.

Our beautiful boy (Charlie!) had an emergency on the 2nd. We rushed him to Medvet (who is…read morewonderful!) but it turned out he was very very blocked and the catheter ended up breaking in him as a result (NOT medvet's fault! They are amazing.) Medvet and my normal vet were both unable to do his PU surgery, which prompted me to discover Northlake. We arrived and right away were impressed with how clean and comfortable the vets office was. The receptionists/techs were extremely kind and we were seen pretty quickly by Dr. Leonard. He examined Charlie to ensure we didn't need surgery, unfortunately we did. He was honest with me, didn't sugar coat things but was kind about it. He told me there was a chance, because of the catheter being broken, that surgery would fail. After he spoke with several other vets to discuss what would be best for Charlie, we decided on the PU surgery. Of course I was a nervous wreck during this time and the techs were AMAZING through out it all, they came out to inform me several times through out the surgery how it was going, kept me comforted and assured (Specifically a tech named Lauren, I believe. She was AMAZING and kept us so comforted) I found out Dr. Leonard also had another doctor working with him, Dr. Linn. Surgery was a success! However because of everything, Dr. Leonard wanted to keep the cath in him for 10 days to ensure proper healing - This is the first time I've EVER been away from Charlie and I was a MESS over this, but the AMAZING staff at Northlake were SO sweet and so patient with me calling a bunch of times to check on my boy. Doctors like Doctor Floyd, Holt, Abbey and Vinterella were also doctors who helped to take care of him during his stay and were always so on point about making sure I got daily updates whenever they were the ones working with him. The patience, kindness and compassion we were shown through out this whole ordeal made what was a terrifying experience so much easier and I can't begin to thank the entire staff at Northlake enough. A simple "thank you" hardly seems like enough. The women who answered the phone (Ashley, Ashley, Shannon and Emily - I believe those were all their names!) were always so kind and patient with me, I wanted to make a mention of them and how great they were. NEVER once did any of them make me feel like I was calling too much or annoying them. You guys were AMAZING. Charlie is now home, and we're watching him closely to ensure that he continues to heal properly, but without Northlake I don't know what I would have done. I wanted to come on here and make sure I left a glowing review, because I cannot recommend them enough. They're an office full of amazing, kind, and determined individuals. I believe with every fiber of my being that Charlie got the best care from this office. I also appreciated how accommodating and patient they were with letting me visit Charlie!! Thank you, Northlake!

Then they kept sending me text and emails telling me that I was late the next year on the annual visit. I told them that due to their mistakes the prior year, I was waiting to get all shots back on the same schedule. my dog is on a prescription diet and they refused to approve an order of dog food from Chewy online stating that my dog was not current on vaccines. My dog is a small mixed 15 year old who is down to 9 lbs from being almost 20 lbs a few years back. I called and gave them a piece of my mind for the treatment received. Well, I received a letter in the mail stating that they were terminating our relationship and would no longer treat my dog. They said the matter was not life or death. I beg to differ. A 15 year old, 9 lb dog being deprived her food is a life or death situation. And now they keep bombarding me with mail, email and texts to bring my dog in. What is wrong with these people? We have moved on to another vet who switched her food and is putting weight back on her. Do not trust this vet clinic. They are horrible.
