Something has changed since our last visit here for Cheesesteaks. We did a phone in order for a pick up in ordered a 12 inch cheesesteak sub with grilled onion and mushroom along with provolone and I believe American cheese with mayo . As you can see in the photo, they are one hell of a good sub, but something has changed. Our sub was mostly mushroom with not that much steak inside of it. It was well seasoned and extremely flavorful but a little bit disappointing. You can't beat the pricing of all of their cheesesteaks, smash burgers and other hoagies . The staff is always friendly and very welcoming and very quick to get you processed out . It's a small building easy to park in front or in the back. I do believe they might have some seating in the back. I'm not sure as we never ate anything in the building but it's extremely clean and there's a couple cool pictures in there deep Philadelphia and what Philly has to offer . We do recommend not as high as what we previously done.

Stoped in for lunch and ordered a Turkey sub. I really liked the turkey and the provolone cheese. The roll was also good.

Solid choice for a cheesesteak, but not my favorite in town. Based on the price for adding fries and a drink a good value, not great. The place looks a bit run down and parking in the back lot is tight. No tables, strictly take out. Terrible menu board and no mention of specials or adding on a drink and fry (or other side) for an up charge. Not user friendly at all and having to ask them to explain how to spend more money seems counter-productive, but what do I know? The largest margin is on the fountain soda, so why not push it? The owners are rich enough and don't care if the customer asks about a drink? I might be back, but if never make a special trip here. Better quality and value elsewhere.

The cheese steak was good a little bit to much pepper seasoning but it good for two people worth the drive

Always very fresh food and staff is great! My favorite is the Italian Hoagies, Thinly sliced meats and fresh veggies make it super tasty.

    California Cheesesteak

This California Cheesesteak is one of the best things I've eaten in a year easily. Huge portion and soooo good!

South Philly never disappoints... the food is always made how I like it (made to order) and the service is just right ... they ask you how you want your food cooked, what extras you want and they clarify how it is normally made. This is important in understanding what you order. in a world where everything including food cost more, they give you your money's worth. There's so much chicken, I could make another sandwich with the amount they gave.

    Yummy

The subs never disappoint. I love that the meat is shaved thin and they use the shredded lettuce. Also never a long wait for the food!

A few months ago, I saw someone on social media post a hoagie from Momma Pat's A Little Taste of…read morePhilly Grille in Duncannon and immediately saved it to my ever-growing list of places I needed to investigate. On a late August Friday evening, Momma Pat's finally had its turn when I decided it sounded perfect for Friday night date night. I'd read that wait times can sometimes get a little long, so I called around 4:30pm to place my order ahead of time. They told me it would be about 30 to 35 minutes, which was perfect because it would take me nearly that long to get there anyway. PRO TIP: Call ahead! Momma Pat's is only open Thursday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm, and after seeing the size of the place and tasting the food, I completely understand why ordering ahead is a good idea. I pulled in about 35 minutes later and easily found parking. There were a few people enjoying the beautiful evening at picnic tables outside, and then I opened the door to go inside and actually laughed out loud. When I tell you Momma Pat's is tiny, I mean TINY. Literally one little room. But it was charming in this wonderfully laid-back, no-frills, very Perry County kind of way, and I immediately loved it. My order was ready when I walked up to the counter, but then I spotted cannolis on the menu for $3.50. Obviously, I needed one. Friday night date night isn't complete without dessert. My original order was a 12-inch Spicy Italian hoagie, a small order of Old Bay fries and a side of cheese sauce. With the cannoli added, I was still right around $20. In this economy?! I was suspicious. Then they handed me a bag of food that was SIGNIFICANTLY heavier than I expected, and my suspicion quickly turned into excitement. I squirreled my haul into the car and headed home for a picnic in the beautiful weather. First up were the Old Bay fries. The container actually held plain fries with two little cups of sauce. One was clearly the cheese sauce I'd ordered. The other was a mystery. Assuming it had something to do with my Old Bay fries, I opened it, dipped a finger in and tasted it. Oh...HELLO! I have absolutely no idea what was in that sauce beyond some glorious combination of Old Bay, spice and what tasted like hot peppers, but it was FANTASTIC! I decided to dip my fries instead of pouring the sauce over them, and my only regret was running out of sauce long before I ran out of fries. The fries themselves were pretty standard pizza shop fries. That mystery sauce, though? THAT'S the story. Next, I opened the cannoli. When I'd ordered it, they called the order back to the kitchen, which made me wonder if they're filled to order. Whatever they're doing back there, keep doing it! I opened the box to find a big, fat cannoli generously piped with filling, topped with chocolate and covered in powdered sugar. I firmly believe you should eat dessert first just in case something catastrophic happens before you finish dinner, so naturally I started there. Excellent decision! The filling was sweet without being overwhelmingly sweet, the chocolate was just enough to set everything off and the shell was perfectly crisp. For $3.50, I'd happily order another one. And then came the main event. The 12-inch Spicy Italian hoagie. I picked it up and immediately started grinning because THIS THING WAS HEAVY. I carefully unwrapped it and found a seeded roll absolutely stuffed with Italian meats, cheese and everything I'd asked them to put on it, including a pile of spicy peppers across the top. It was one of the best-looking hoagies I've seen in a very long time. Then I took my first bite. GOOD. LORD. The whole thing was incredible! The meats and cheese tasted fresh, the lightly toasted seeded roll was the perfect delivery system for the mountain of goodness stuffed inside and those spicy peppers on top absolutely made it for me. I would like to formally petition for spicy peppers to become their own food group because I apparently need significantly more of them in my diet. The hoagie was enormous. Between that, the fries and the cannoli, there was enough food here to easily feed two people, probably more depending on appetites. I actually checked my receipt again because I couldn't quite believe I'd gotten that much really good food for around $20. The staff were fantastic throughout the entire experience, too. They were friendly when I called to place my order, had everything ready when promised, happily accommodated my last-minute cannoli addition and got me back out the door quickly to enjoy my Friday night. I'm not sure I can recommend Momma Pat's as somewhere you should STOP for dinner. I think Momma Pat's needs to be the DESTINATION. Generous portions. Really great food. Friendly people. Ridiculously reasonable prices. And a tiny little South Philly-style hoagie shop in Duncannon that I somehow managed to live near for all these years without knowing existed. Well, I know now. And from here on out,

Some were great, some good and others should have never been called cheese steak subs. We moved to PA a few years back and have explored our community for the best places to eat. It was one day about 3 months ago, my wife and me had a hankering for a really good cheese steak sub. We punched in the request in our GPS and several places displayed upon the screen. After a quick check on reviews of the various locations, we settled on South Philly Hogies. Although the trip was 18 minutes away at 23 miles, off we went to try this establishment. We both ordered the California Cheese Steak and fries. We drove home and I can tell you by far this was the best Cheese Steak we had ever eaten. The bread it is served on is so soft and fresh and they have no issues with making it your way. I would be remiss if I didn't make mention that the staff are always nice and friendly. The quality and quantity that you get with your order almost seems impossible these days. We were so pleased that every time a family visits us here in PA, South Philly Hogies will always get a stop from us. We enjoyed every bite and discovered that we like it so much that as soon as we receive our food, we travel to the shopping mall and eat on the lot. We never make it home now with our food. All you hear in the car is lips smacking and people saying "um, um , um" I must also report that they are truly wonderful with regard to prices. I have paid upwards of almost $30.00 for the food we ordered from other establishments and the food was not that great at all. Not wishing to see price increased at this location but I would gladly pay a little more because they are that good. Thank you guys for doing such a great job with your service and your food. We will see you again as you are now on our once every 2 week visit list. For ever! Mr. & Mrs. Green

Super fresh rolls with the right texture that have some give, some squish, but still held up well to being stuffed with the steak, cheese, and add-ins/sauce. Also good quality ribeye steak that's well chopped. I prefer mine with provolone and sweet peppers, along with marinara on top. But honestly, these cheesesteaks are good enough with just steak and cheese. The fries here are shoestring, which is perfect if you don't want soggy fries when you let them sit. Penn Steaks uses beef tallow which gives it a bit more savory taste. I'm not really into beef tallow for frying, yet I still enjoyed then. I'd still prefer Five Guys fries over these. But don't let that stop you from trying them! And the service was fantastic. The person taking my order was polite and helpful. I even met one of the co-owners who was very friendly! A great guy to chit-chat if you like that sort of thing. I learned quite a bit from him during my visit. They sell their cheesesteaks in 6", 9", and 18". The 9" is generous and should satisfy most people. I might be able to finish an 18" if was really hungry and didn't add too much to it, but I'd be in pain afterwards! The 18" is better for sharing. I'll stop by more often for a good cheesesteak. Next time I'll get extra cheese on it. I know I'll probably be addicted to their cheesesteaks sooner or later. Edit: added photo of their cheesesteak
