My first home is New York City, my second home is Philadelphia, and now my third home--due to just haters--is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This is probably the reason most entertainers and people of fame who come from Harrisburg move away and don't say they are from there But anyway... Me, having Philly family and being a Philly fan of everything, especially those Eagles (don't stop reading because of that!), I had a chance to get a cheesesteak from South Philly Hoagie, and let me tell you, I was impressed. The bread makes everything, and then of course the meat. I ordered mine with mayonnaise, cheese whiz, and of course, mushrooms. Now, I did order it through the Uber Eats app, and I wish I could've added provolone, but I never had to add pizza sauce to my cheesesteak until today. I'm glad I did! It made it pop, even though it was missing that provolone. One thing I do wish is that they would actually take the bread and get some of that steak juice right on the bun. Other than that, I'm not mad at it. Of course, it's not Philly. It didn't bounce me right back to the hometown of Will Smith, and it didn't have me saying "I'M A WORK OF ART." However, I was pleased and satisfied. Maybe the flavoring can hold me over until my next pay next week so I can take a train down to Philly. The French fries were amazing, if I must say. Stopped by on the way home on a roadtrip and I'm so glad we did. I ordered a 12" but the 6" sandwich was plenty enough for a filling lunch. They piled the meat high and it eas super tender. The sandwich I ordered had red sauce that I asked to be removed and it was perfect. They made the order super quickly and we were back on our road trip in less than 10 minutes. The flavor was spot on. But honestly, when I selected cheese whiz, I did not expect a pencil thin amount so disappointing! Had the feeling if I would have ordered extra cheese wiz that would have been drowned in it. Something has changed since our last visit here for Cheesesteaks. We did a phone in order for a pick up in ordered a 12 inch cheesesteak sub with grilled onion and mushroom along with provolone and I believe American cheese with mayo . As you can see in the photo, they are one hell of a good sub, but something has changed. Our sub was mostly mushroom with not that much steak inside of it. It was well seasoned and extremely flavorful but a little bit disappointing. You can't beat the pricing of all of their cheesesteaks, smash burgers and other hoagies . The staff is always friendly and very welcoming and very quick to get you processed out . It's a small building easy to park in front or in the back. I do believe they might have some seating in the back. I'm not sure as we never ate anything in the building but it's extremely clean and there's a couple cool pictures in there deep Philadelphia and what Philly has to offer . This place used to be the best subs and now it is nothing special. I used to come here and we would order subs at work. We would order 10-15 subs and they were packed. Now I ordered a 12 inch sub and there is barely enough meat to reach both ends of the sub roll. You have to pay extra just to have enough meat to fill the roll. The last time I was there all new people and the sub roll was soggy and I even asked that the meat be well done. Just a shame what has happened to this place. Unfortunately, I do not have any pics this time, but something has changed here. For years, this has been our "go to" for a delicious cheesesteak! Not so much anymore and the size of the large cheesesteak has changed. I lived in Harrisburg for years and then moved, but we still would travel to get this cheesesteak. We could order a large and have more than enough to share, the cheesesteak would be overflowing with steak and was so delicious. The size is smaller and we did ask for mushrooms, but there were more mushrooms than steak in our sandwich. Unfortunately, things have changed and I doubt we will be back. The place looks a bit run down and parking in the back lot is tight. No tables, strictly take out. Terrible menu board and no mention of specials or adding on a drink and fry (or other side) for an up charge. Not user friendly at all and having to ask them to explain how to spend more money seems counter-productive, but what do I know? The largest margin is on the fountain soda, so why not push it? Ordered a 24 inch "Cheesesteak Special" which contains mushrooms, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, pepperoni, steak and American cheese. It was HUGE! Took them about 10-15 min to finish this; which is pretty reasonable... The sandwich itself was good but tomatoes made it kind of soggy and caused the bag to be ripped and juice was dripping down all over which was extremely messy and made it hard to eat. SPH used to be one of the best places to get a sub in the Harrisburg area next to The Sandwich Man. I've only come here twice in the last year. Why.... Because you stopped putting a quality portion of meat on your sandwiches. Right after Christmas was my last time I will ever go here. Why did I go there yesterday and get a cheese steak sub which they are known for in famous for to have so much lettuce I had to scrape half of it off to actually see you the meat. Order two, at a cost of $25. Both were so salty they were unedible.
