It's reminiscent of the theaters many of us remember growing up with before the advent of the "multiplex" pavilions. This movie house has old style charm while providing locals with better movies. I almost always want to see whatever is playing here. This isn't necessarily the place you'd come to see the latest blockbuster because most of the time you won't find those movies playing here. I come here because this is where you can find the less than big-budget films. You can find art house films, and the more unusual interesting movies that tend to get much less play elsewhere. You'll get indie movies thrown in the mix and film festival selections that are otherwise hard to track down. Prices are reasonable especially if you go to the first showing of the day when tickets are half price. You can find me up in the balcony, right hand side. I love that the theater has that old fashioned balcony which affords, I think, the best view. The structure itself has an illustrious history having been completed in 1852 after a Hingham women's group came up the idea to build "a commodious and suitable building for Lectures, Picnics and Social Meetings of all kinds." These ladies were able to get the attention of some notable and well-to do citizens in the Hingham community who funded their project all for the sum of $4,435.57. (I love how they recorded that figure down to the cents!). This Greek Revival structure was then modernized in 1936 and became a movie theater. It's in private hands now and is part of the Patriots Cinema chain of theaters. This particular theater retains a strong sense of community and place and is an important fixture in the Hingham community. I enjoy seeing movies here because of the atmosphere and history and I love supporting local treasures like this.

My sister also had to reschedule the party due to illness and had no problem. Weymouth is really lucky to have such a great community cinema. Though it is an old, long standing theater, the theater venue itself is renovated with comfortable modern seating, but they've retained some of the old time charm by keeping the lobby so homey. The bathrooms are fantastically whimsical with the old hollywood themed wallpaper. Good for selfies. It's really a great welcoming space. There is a lot of parking within walking distance, but there isn't a lot of parking right in front of the theater - so that is something to keep in mind if you or someone. you are attending with has a mobility challenge. The confessions stand had stale popcorn and it didn't look like there was any machines to pop the popcorn. While the theater is quite large it has this outdated feel to it like it hasn't been updated since the 90's. We had no problem getting a parking spot. Because it had IMAX movies, I'm sorry to see it go but if Showcase wasn't going to spend some money to update it, it's probably best that they decided to close it.

All the staff I dealt with was great, but it seems they wear multiple hats! And can't be at all the desks at once! Once they noticed me I got everything I needed. They have a lot of food and drink options for a movie theater. They have a regular concession desk and a coffee/booze bar. No pretzels, but I ended up getting the nachos. Movie theater prices, of course. I didn't love the 25 minutes of previews after the posted show time, but all in all a good experience.

The band was made up off of three guitarist, a keyboard player, a drummer (who happened to be a female, which was very cool because I don't see a lot of them), and two female lead singers. By and large, all the members of the band were baby boomers with the exception of the drummer who seemed to be maybe in her early 30s. The two female singers dance through most of the performance and the dancing left something to be desired. This doesn't matter because the performance overall is a singing performance, and the vocalist were excellent. The music of course was a total throwback to the amazing band ABBA. I enjoyed it immensely. The singers had lots of electric stage presence, great personalities, and talent. Other than the lackluster dancing parentheses (I didn't expect stellar dancing anyway!) the only negative comment I can make is that we got aisle seats next to each other. People sitting in the rows further in arrived later than we did so we had to get up to let them through. Later on in the performance, several of these people decided to get up and dance down in front of the stage so we had to get up again. After they dance, they came back to their seats and got their pocket books and then went out to the concession stand so we had to get up again. Afterwards, of course we had to let them back to their seats for the rest of the performance. Flipping pain in the neck, but this was not the fault of the performance or the theater. I highly recommend that you see this performance if you are able to! Just be sure to get seats next to the wall, the furthest in.

It starts out as a father's legacy, played by Peter S. Adams as Mr. Price of " Price and Sons shoe manufacturer ". His passing left the company and his legacy to his son Charlie Price, played by the talented Brandon Wong, struggling to come to grips what to do. From the moment KINKY BOOTS , it started, the whole theatre guests were receptive and riveted in their seats. Each ensemble cast member performed their part on point and with great ease. The main character appeared as an adult "LOLA", played by Gilbert Dabady, elevated the energy level of her character level to a new high! Totally enjoyed the performance! Very convincing! "LOLA", grabbed the audience attention and did not let it go and commanded the stage along with "Charlie Price", played by BRANDON WONG. His powerful voice and acting made for a very entertaining scene! IT WAS A HUGE TREAT TO WITNESS SUCH TALENT, Thank you! This Production of KINKY BOOTS, by DIRECTOR ZOE BRADFORD, has made a huge mark in the Theatre Industry and her Productions are LEGENDARY! I have been going to this cinema for years and will express my disappointments. The facility has…read moregone downhill. 1. The climate control system is totally out of wack in both Maxwell and Linn theaters. Over numerous visits the temperature has either been way too hot or uncomfortably freezing cold. When alerted, Staff cannot do anything to moderate. 2. The seats are worn out in the Maxwell Theater (smaller one) and the screen is dirty. 3. On our last visit (Dylan movie) the woman's bathroom was dirty, smelly, wet...no TP. 4. The handicapped access ramp to the upper parking lot is dark and not lit. Unfortunately, it seems the theaters are an afterthought and not a maintenance priority to the museum administration. This is unfortunate as I would like to continue to support a smaller, local theater showcasing less mainstream films, but the poor facilities is making this impossible. Museum management should recognize and correct the deficits I report...one would think they could afford to do this.
