That hasn't been the case for years now particularly with all the options of enjoying movies at home. A good friend was visiting us from New Jersey for a few days last week and she and I decided to go see Spencer at one of Hingham's local movie theaters. This is a smaller multi-plex and we went to the 4pm showing. The particular theater was on the smaller side and given the time of day was not crowded at all which was nice. What wasn't nice is that walking in, the floor was littered with popcorn. Granted, two young men came in shortly after we arrived and started sweeping but the initial impression was a messy one. What was interesting was that we purchased our tickets a couple of hours ahead of time and then went to have lunch. When we returned to see the movie there was no one collecting tickets. We simply walked into the theater. I would never have done this but it was absolutely unnecessary for us to have had tickets. This is not the fault of the theater but the first 10 minutes or so was filled with actual commercial ads being shown on the screen. Ugh! Best not to come too early so you can avoid this. There were a couple of coming attractions which I always enjoy. I have found that often movie theaters have the sound turned up to a deafening level. Thankfully this was not the case here. The temperature of the theater was comfortable as the other problem is often excessive air conditioning or stuffiness. I still much prefer to watch movies at home. We have set up the family room with a big screen and surround sound. It was pleasant enough to be in an actual theater although this place needs to ensure cleaner floors prior to customers entering, and do a better job of checking tickets. I suspect, like many places, they currently must be short of help.

We went to the company theater to watch the production Abbamania, a long running ABBA tribute show,…read moreperforming since 1999. The band was made up off of three guitarist, a keyboard player, a drummer (who happened to be a female, which was very cool because I don't see a lot of them), and two female lead singers. By and large, all the members of the band were baby boomers with the exception of the drummer who seemed to be maybe in her early 30s. The two female singers dance through most of the performance and the dancing left something to be desired. This doesn't matter because the performance overall is a singing performance, and the vocalist were excellent. The music of course was a total throwback to the amazing band ABBA. I enjoyed it immensely. The singers had lots of electric stage presence, great personalities, and talent. Other than the lackluster dancing parentheses (I didn't expect stellar dancing anyway!) the only negative comment I can make is that we got aisle seats next to each other. People sitting in the rows further in arrived later than we did so we had to get up to let them through. Later on in the performance, several of these people decided to get up and dance down in front of the stage so we had to get up again. After they dance, they came back to their seats and got their pocket books and then went out to the concession stand so we had to get up again. Afterwards, of course we had to let them back to their seats for the rest of the performance. Flipping pain in the neck, but this was not the fault of the performance or the theater. I highly recommend that you see this performance if you are able to! Just be sure to get seats next to the wall, the furthest in.

We bought tickets at the counter and picked out seats. Also the seats vibrate so feels 4D! We avoided coming when there is something going on a Gillette - just because we assume it would be nutty. You can buy your tickets online, but you will need to go to the concession stand to get a printed ticket to get into the theater - no biggie, but if some people are in a rush that may catch them off guard. The seats are really nice, however very high off the ground! I have short legs and getting up onto the seat was more difficult than expected. Also the recliners in the row we were in didnt go up all the way... so our legs were at a weird angle. Also there isnt a whole lot of track lighting on the floor so if you have to get up during the movie, its very dark... so be careful going down the stairs. We will be back! Hopefully our seats will fully recline next time.

The exit from this concert was not only unorganized, it was DANGEROUS!! I almost got hit 2x walking to our suv. Then my 16 year old and I were getting in the vehicle and a big truck came within inches of us at a ridiculous speed for a packed parking lot!! He was at least 4 inches from me. The concert was amazing, as always for train but I've never been in a facility with so many entitled, self-centered people with no regard for anyone. Couple this with the dangerous exit, you might want to hire experienced people for a concert that is sold out!! The staff were very nice though!! And there were other positives such as clean bathrooms. Do something about the safety when leaving before someone gets hurt!!!

First off, one must stand in line to order. While standing in line since there was no.menj board i looked up the menu online. I get my heart set on something only to find out they are running a limited menu. Of course my chose item isnt available! There's a line behind me and I must pivot. Then I was asked where are you sitting. All tables have numbers. The guy gives me a number. I have to wait for drinks before sitting down. Meanwhile people who ordered online are now at my table. This was frustrating to not only me but the employees who now have to change my location on a busy day. There was one food runner. 2 working the bar and I am unsure how many back in the food area but it just wasn't enough! The food was fine. No complaints over the cedar salad, the super breaded mozzarella sticks and the pretzel bites. But I will say... the cheese pictured with the pretzel bites was orange and I got quest Blanco. Too hectic, loud and high anxiety.

It's good for what it is, what with free parking, and only a couple…read moredollars for entrance fee. game tickets is where they get you, to a point that I don't even know why entrance fee is charged. some games as fun, some are lame (and shorter than last year, namely the carousel)...but I guess it's operator-dependent. some games do not accept tickets, thus require additional cash. again, not sure why we need to pay a couple dollars just to get in when there's nothing you can do inside without paying more cash. but it's got a little bit of everything - bungy bounce (extra cash), zoo petting (feeds extra), prize games (extra cash), variety of things taking 1-3 tickets per ride. Tickets are about ... hmmm i don't want to misquote but i can't seem to recall. but i remember you don't get a "discount" for buying more, they're all at the same rate. you just save trips to the ticket counter and time spent on waiting in line (if any). cute for a once a year thing. appreciates that it's there. have to pick the right time to go to avoid lines and crowds.

Still, the environments created around said turtles are whimsical, educational and awe-inspiring for the little 'uns. An extra star for free admission to YMCA members, and for the enjoyable outdoor space, which includes a chicken hutch, active gardens, stone circles for pagan worship (I kid, or do I?) and about a billion chipmunks. Seriously, it's like Alvin attained Beiber status and all the teen chips are swarming for an autograph. Excellent programming and festivals throughout the year - even a Corn Fest! - and, as mentioned, completely free for YMCA members. Solid way to knock out an hour or two if your spawn is being a terror. Or obsesses over turtles. Or both.
