This is my go-to place for my contact lens needs. I have been coming here for a several years and have had awesome customer service each time. This is the #1 reason that I keep coming back. Additional reasons why they are awesome include: (1) You don't need an appointment to see the optometrist but you should call ahead because she is not there every day. (2) They accept my insurance (Davis Vision) and a bunch of other ones. (3) They stay open until late (9:30 PM) during the week which allows me swing by after work. (4) They understand that random things happen. For example, I lost my last pair of contacts down the drain a couple hours before I was headed out to see a play in the city. An hour later I got an eye exam, they contacted the insurance and I was walking out with a new pair of contact lens. I have also gotten an old pair of designer sunglasses fixed here when other places couldn't because they weren't be made anymore. This optical is located in Green Acres mall in Valley Stream. They have their own entrance that's accessible from the parking lot which is next to Panera Bread and JC Penny. You can't access it from inside the mall so entering through the parking lot is your only option. I've been coming here for about 3 years because my husband gets his glasses from here. I decided why not use his optician being that I didn't really have one. So far I've had a good experience. No outrageous wait time for my order as I see in these other reviews. The optician was very nice & knowledgeable. The staff was very nice as well. They sanitized the frames for me to try on & all the costs for my glasses were straight forward. They told me it would take 2 weeks to get my glasses but they were ready in less than 1! I really like that they have limits on how many people can be in the store at one time. You have to be buzzed in but they have a small vestibule to wait in & of course a mask is required. Overall, I definitely recommend this location. read more

This company doesn't care about making sure your (or a child's for that matter) eyesight is corrected UNLESS you are using your insurance or paying out of pocket to visit their store. Listen at the end of the day a business is nothing if it isn't profitable - However when the visit is done and the transaction is paid in full; as a US citizen by law I am entitled to a FULL copy of my eye prescription. South Shore Opticians kindly and in a prompt manner no less sent over a copy of my Daughter's prescription when I first called in. Awesome right? Unbeknownst to me they left out a major component- The PD measurement (the distance between your pupils starting at the center). Thinking it was a mistake I called back requesting this information; I was then told (nicely) it does not come with the prescription and if I wanted that information I needed to pay an extra $30. Hmmm Interesting I thought. I got off the phone feeling slightly robbed. The lady was nice enough that I didn't get immediately upset until I did some Googling (don't you just love the internet?) It was there I learned withholding part of your prescription was a practice many Opticians have taken up to force you to give them your money and deter you from buying your frames online. I became 'BIG" mad. How greedy must you be to withhold information then charge a customer for a 2 digit number just to keep them from saving money or spending it else where?! I called back and asked for a manager straight away (no attitude present) and explained why. I was transferred to a Mrs/Ms M Thompson. She let me explain that I just needed my daughter's PD and didn't want nor should I have to pay $30 for it in accordance to federal law. She replied back that PD isnt part of the prescription (Really? Although it is needed to make the lens?), my daughter should come in to make sure her PD is updated anyways (In other words pay for another visit although it hasn't been a year since her last eye check), Or have the other place measure her PD. Wowza I informed her I asked a Lawyer friend and from my research the PD is in fact part of the Prescription and by law she shouldn't be charging me to get it. M. Thompson stated that she also has a Lawyer and will not be providing me that information. M. Thompson failed at providing a PAYING customer requested information (that isn't difficult to get yourself; all you need is a millimeter ruler). She did succeed in losing my business however SMH. I would have gone back to this spot to update my daughter's prescription in a timely manner - not anymore. South Shore Optics! You need to weigh the Pros Vs Cons with doing this to your customers. There is even a site for Opticians giving sound advise: "Providing or not providing a PD will not stop the growing online eyewear sales, but educating the public and raising awareness of how accuracy matters will go a long way in preserving our profession. I saw a response to another article on PD requests that a question was posed to a patient, "If my price was the same as the online one where would you shop?" The patient's reply was, "Why, here of course." Although we cannot always price match, if we can take care of every patient, one patient at a time, listen to his needs, and offer him an education and options that match his needs, we have a better chance of retaining him for a long time. You decide whether to provide a PD, whether to charge, how to respond in a way that best represents your practice dispensary. When a patient asks for a PD, know your staff is trained with a protocol in place. Know how to respond, and do so in a nice way." read more

The overall customer service is horrible over here. It is already bad enough that the wait is extremely long for someone to help you and they don't follow up. The workers there have attitudes especially the short young girl (A......ia is her name). She was rude and unprofessional by rolling her eyes, her tone and by dropping the magazine+ tray on the counter when showing yelper. I told her that her attitude was bad and suggested taking my business elsewhere. Her colleague (old man) retorted "whatever, it is your money" This place also has a kiosk in the middle of the mall in front of Victoria Secrets. Visited this location for the purpose of getting an eye exam and to choose eye glasses. I met with associate Sabrina. Questions about the insurance that I have and the benefits based on that insurance. She answered a number of other questions specifically about the eye glasses such as thickness of glass, colored lenses options and transitional bifocals. She was very patient, pleasant and answered each question. I went in to the eye exam room and met Doctor Roberto. She was also very personable and informative. I had a series of questions that she answered and she also shared information that would be helpful considering I wear either contacts or eye glasses depending when. Reading glasses as opposed to glasses used for sight during reading or computer use. Showed me the difference in my current glasses prescription which is actually two years old. Great exam experience and professional. I then went to choose frames that were covered by my insurance, yellow tagged, which made it much easier. Sabrina took time to help me choose glasses and to also offer her perception of how they looked on me. It was much needed considering. She gladly took care of the paperwork necessary. Another woman, didn't get her name, was nice while checking my insurance and if something was covered. Overall a great experience. Customer service serves many purposes, good customer service might actually enhance someone's outlook on their day. Next is to wait for the frames to come in then fit, etc. read more

I purchased some glasses for my child at the location. I liked the work and the service so I came back to pick up 2 pairs of glasses for myself and contacts for my other child. We received service on 9/14. My daughter and I both had eye exams and I picked out my glasses and she was fitted for the contacts. I made a $378 deposit and was told to come back next weekend for the glasses. I come back 9/21 only to find a shell of a store. I told the clerks that I was there to pick up prescriptions for both my daughter and myself and was told they were closed. I asked for how long and I inquired as to why the customers were not notified as Sunday is my only day off and the store is far from my home. One of the clerks said my items were ready and she would drop them off to me at my work. They took my number and said they would make arrangements for drop off on Weds, 9/24. I didn't receive a phone call and went back to the location to get my items on 9/28 and the location was completely boarded up in the mall. I went to the mall help desk and they said they were renovating and would be open the next week. I was there again 10/5 and they were still closed and the mall information kiosk had no information. I'm not sure why this seemingly reputable company that had been there for years has up and disappeared. I would like the items I paid for. This is outrageous. I would like either the glasses with our written out prescriptions, or my money refunded and my insurance claim reversed so I can procure eyeglasses/contacts elsewhere. I will be escalating this to the Better Business Bureau and any other measures I can find. read more

I'm a little confused by the negative reviews on here! So here's the story....I was in a jam and needed a replacement for my glasses on vacation. After reading the reviews I was really concerned I'd have a bad experience and that I'd have to wait forever for service, but this was the closest place that fit in with everyone else's schedule so I figured I'd just walk in and see what happens. Fortunately, the owner, Marvia (I think that was her name) gave me the nicest greeting when I arrived. I explained to her my story. She immediately gave me a pair of decent glasses that matched my prescription so that I could use them while on vacation AT NO COST. So I figured I'd look around and see what frames they had, and found (with her help) some of the coolest glasses I have owned. She then later mailed me what I ordered when I came in. It did take a little while but the frames are GORGEOUS and she shipped them THE DAY SHE RECEIVED THEM IN. Thank you so much for the great and friendly service!!!! It's smart business, I probably won't return because I don't live there. This was the worst experience I've ever had. When I first came into the store it took 15 minutes for someone to even look up and say hello. I made sure I called ahead of time to make an appointment which didn't make a difference because they took people ahead of me who came in after me and who didn't have a appointment. After getting my exam they pointed to the wall and said "pick from here". Not one person helped me look for a frame or help me find a pair that looked nice. I felt like they could not be bothered and I was the only one in the store. Today I called to see if my glasses were in because they told me it would take 2 weeks or more. And my glasses have been sitting there for two days already and no phone call. When I came into the store it was me and another man picking up new glasses. The women In there were soo rude to me. The man ahead picked his glasses up and the have him a soft case and he asked for a hard case and she said " no problem" handed it to him and said have a nice day. So when I went to try my new glasses on , she was so rude didn't want to fit them to me correctly. I wanted to make sure they fit perfect and she kept sucking her teeth and rolling her eyes. My glasses are still not right. I even said can I test them out to make sure I can "see". And and huffed n puffed and said "I guess if u need too". I couldn't not believe it, she just was so nasty. Then I asked her for a hard case because she gave me a soft case and she wanted to charge me $4.99, after she just gave the man ahead of me a hard case for free. Don't bother coming here, unless you want to wait over 4 months to get your glasses done somewhat correctly. Terrible craftsmanship, couldn't reorder the actual frame correctly, only one of the two lenses on my glasses were correct. The other wasn't even close. Just awful. This review is for South Shore Opt, in Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, NY. I bought my glasses from their cart "Eye Buys" outside Victoria Secrets. It took almost two weeks for my of pair of discounted glasses at $350.00 to arrive. Idk about others but this is a great amount of money even though I pay $600 in insurance every month but the glasses that are provided for insurances look horrible. So I paid full out of pocket. The glasses arrived with HUGE spaces in between the lenses and the frame on both sides. The white hair headed older man w glasses cheerfully helped me picked them out but quickly caught an attitude when I complained about them. He walked away angerly at the time now I know why he was the one who put the lenses in. After another two weeks to replace the lenses after they attempted to fix them in house failed. New lenses were ordered I later found out. So why today October 4, the same problem.. Now I have been very accommodating, patience and calm after paying in full and waiting a month for my glasses. The spaces between the lenses and frame are still so apparent - standing right there At the cart I stick a corner of a piece of paper right through to the other side. Here's where it goes bad to worst I walked over to South Shore, walking up to the counter and before I could open my mouth the white hair headed gentlemen and I use this term loosely comes over to me and says with an attitude what's my problem now! What! Ok. Now it's on!! Excuse you! He was rude disrespectful and unprofessional and proceeded to tell me, at there cost they replaced the lenses, Um yeah, because you guys broke them.That I could take my business else where, that he didn't care if I stuck 3 sheets of paper through the glasses he was not going to fix nothing else and said he was through talking to me and that he has been in this business for 40 years and the Boss!!! As another women, I later learned was the co manger or boss ( she did not reveil that at the time) proceeded to answer my questions.
