Went in there first time, and The Girl (receptionist seen me there for a while and then ask in a rude way"how may i help you?" But it looked like she had a long day i don't blame her, but when i told her my issue with my BMW X5 that did not turn on & she looked clueless then she spoke with her boss, and he told me what it could be but hes not touching my car since another mechanic already looked at it.Mind you the other mechanic is not an electrician that's why i had to check around for an electrician mechanic. I was like in my head really? that's spiteful and he also said good luck. It looks like this South Side on 2311 Forest ave, there only good for small jobs like tuneups, and if your not wearing a suit or have a luxury car they don't touch. Went in for a persistent vibration in the rear end. Ended up figuring that out and that vibration was gone and they installed faulty brake pads to rip me off on a brake job. In the first 2 mins of being there was given some sob story that his sons house was flooded the night before in a bad rain storm and how much money it was going to take to fix everything and they don't know what they're going to do. So, they were feening for some big repair invoices. Felt bad for the guy until he took me for a ride after my so called repair and gave me some BS story that my brakes were bad and there's a bad vibration in the steering wheel. Yes, now there was. But there was nothing wrong with my brakes when I drove to the shop nor the almost year before. Especially since I had done the brakes myself in the driveway 8 months prior. He says you need to do your brakes and I'm like whoa that's not right they're only ~8mo. old and were done with Factory rotors and EBC Green stuff pads. I say to him I'll check it out myself I have to do another repair before I spend money on my brakes again There shouldn't be anything wrong. This is all on the scam test drive. Sr. is driving and we get back to the shop and he gets out all in a huff and says my son will have your paperwork for you. I should've just looked at the backing of the pad while I was there I would've caught it right on the spot. The backing of EBC green stuff pads is BRIGHT LIME GREEN! Get home. Take the wheels off the next weekend and the parts I INSTALLED on the truck aren't even there! They were some generic parts store brand with BLACK backings. It was so evident I wish I noticed while I was there. So it seems the common scam on these trucks is to install two sets of outer brake pads in both the inner and outer positions of the floating brake caliper. The studs on the outer pad when in the inner pad position cause the pad to meet the rotor unevenly causing a steering wheel vibration. The inner pad also has locating ears that were missing from the outer pad. Further causing vibration. Additionally, these studs that weren't supposed to be in the inner position, then bed dimples into my rebuilt caliper pistons that were also new at the time of my brake job ~8mos. ago. So basically they stole my brake parts to then convince me that I had a brake problem to only hope that I say, sure lets do them quick while I'm here. Then, most likely, only to have my own parts that were unfortunately removed from the truck to then be re-installed and charge me for a full new brake job. Just so they can make some extra money that day. Such scum I still have your scam parts kit if you'd like it back to continue ripping people off. read more

Just put in a 6inch longarm lift into my 03 Jeep Wrangler. I showed up to this shop with an upside-down steering wheel & in desperate need of an alignment. They completed an excellent alignment for my truck which was no easy task due to the fact that I have adjustable control arms and adjustable track bar. Truck was in Sunday night and done by noon Monday. Great communication with Paul throughout. Honestly they, Paul, told me to just buy a new car as my old Mitsubishi Montero Sport is 20 years old but I won't part with "her" yet. Then he quoted a me a price to get a fuel pump and warned it might be more if there was more work to be done...there was more work but he charged me less then the original quote. Next time I needed some work done and they worked extra hard at making a part fit that wasn't 100% OEM. Going back to the first time I used them they just tested my AC filled it with coolant and charged me the minimum hourly plus refrigerant. If you want a peace of mind then call Paul at South Side! Review is for 4/10/18, I went in last week for my annual inspection, guys came out and let me know I passed the emissions but failed for safety reasons and I had to have both outer tie rods replaced due to them having too much play. I did the repairs at home because I'm capable of doing them but can't inspect my own car (sorry guys). But I'll be bringing the car back tomorrow for an alignment and to have the safety part done. Edit: 4/17/17 I went back today and had the alignment done for the wheels after changing the outer tie rods, alignment went great, they adjusted the tires from 2.41 degrees off center to 0.12 degrees and I was passed for the safety portion of the inspection. Overall the shop and guys were very upfront and honest about things, didn't steer me wrong (no pun). I would definitely bring my car back here when needed. Thanks South Side Auto! read more

Why my Altima keeps shutting off? I have been using South Side Services for approximately 3 years. My car was in there shop this past Wednesday- October 7th and they kept it overnight. I paid over $400.00. I was charged for a tune up, intake valve cleaning. They reported the alternator has no problems. They battery is brand new. They system was flushed. They reported no problems with the car. Had my car in two weeks before that. The transmission is new and was placed less than a year ago. Why my car can not start. I pay to be toll and was charged over $100.00 to get a jump. It is a nightmare. How can I be safe going to York, PA next week? Is it the car or am I being taken? Why I can't start my car? I went to that "other place" and they tried to swindle me into buying tires and breaks when I didn't need them and failed my inspection. When I came in last week in the late afternoon having picked up a screw in a tire, the bays were full (another indication of their reputation). This was the only shop that was able to even understand what I was looking for: an obscure Moog rear alignment camber kit to replace OEM on a very old Ford Explorer I had which was still in mint condition. My rear alignment camber was out of whack and the stock plates and bolts give no room for adjustment. And I was going through tires like crazy. I knew exactly what I needed to get in spec. This shop was the only one. Plus they were super honest (didn't try to upsell tie rods, bearings or control arms, which I knew I didn't need). They got my car in and out, even though they look super busy. They're open on Saturdays (huge plus!). And I just got a good vibe (think the guy working on my car was Albert? Nice friendly dude). And the costs are reasonable. Then I saw the other reviews here and it makes sense, great shop. read more

South Side Auto Service. Paul ordered the specific battery that I wanted, no issues and installed it with the secure bracket, also changed the oil in my truck. Service was done within a reasonable time and staff was friendly. I have no complaints. Waiting area was clean. They have not done any major repairs on my truck so I'm not able to comment on that aspect. read more
