South Weddington Park in the early morning is quiet, almost cinematic. Dew on the grass. Clean sightlines. Palm trees standing guard like extras in a film about discipline and redemption. The air still cool before the Valley heat starts flexing. It's the kind of place that makes you grateful you're alive. We were there training with Adrian Paul for Sword Experience. Just ten of us. Focused. Respectful. No chaos. No loud music. No nonsense. Just structured movement, controlled blades, and the kind of discipline that most gyms wish they could bottle. It wasn't some medieval riot. It was art. It was choreography. It was fitness with intention. And then--because this is Los Angeles--the authorities rolled up. Permit required. Now listen, I understand rules. I respect process. Parks have policies. But it was early morning. The place was practically empty. Ten adults quietly training on a massive field with more squirrels than spectators. We weren't hosting Coachella. We weren't blocking traffic. We weren't even sweating on anyone else's yoga mat. Still--permit. It's almost funny in that very L.A. way. You can film a car commercial at golden hour, but ten disciplined adults moving mindfully with training swords? That needs paperwork. That said, the park itself? Beautiful. Clean. Wide open space. Great energy. A hidden Valley gem that feels far removed from the chaos of the city. Would I train there again? Absolutely. Would I bring a permit next time? Apparently yes. read more

Some of these reviews are hilarious - this park is... a park. Sometimes it's busy with baseball games, sometimes it's quiet with picnics/joggers/dogs playing, sometimes it's empty and all yours. I think a lot of people who dislike this park seem to have an issue with dogs. These are the same people who I assume are quite miserable on a daily basis. I've visited this park more times than I can count and I love seeing the pups running around and having a good time. Until there's a sign that says, "No Dogs", "No Children", "No Fun", "No Smiling", then I think it's safe to let people enjoy their time. For the reviews that call this park "sketchy" lol... Umm... Yeah, any park in Los Angeles in 2022 at night will have homeless/transients sleeping around. 9/10 times they're harmless and people who are going through a tough time. Again, enjoy life and let people enjoy theirs. If no one is bothering you, then maybe you're just a complainer. *shrug* There's nothing wrong with this park lol. We enjoy it a great deal. read more

This park is nice and small. I went there today and it was packed because there was a baseball game. Unfortunately that made parking at the park pretty terrible. People were parked in tow away spots and created their own parking spots, which made it difficult to drive through. I ended up parking in the residential area across the street. The park itself has a lot of grass. I came here for a French bulldog meetup. The organizers read that this was an off leash dog park. However, please note that there is no fence here to keep dogs in a safe area. Dogs are just unleashed on the grassy area. There were many people sleeping by the bushes and people doing drugs by the main road, the time on google maps shows that this park closes at 9 pm but the gate was closed by the time we got there which was 8 pm... and our car was still inside of their parking lot... read more

Parks come in all shapes and sizes. Some feature playgrounds and athletic courts, while others are more natural with ponds and gardens. Some are simply green meadows which are perfect to dump the body of your annoying neighbor you just murdered... wait what? I'm just kidding, Yelpers! I'm far too smart to just dump a body in a park! South Weddington Park is mostly just a large, green field with massive shady trees, walking paths, and baseball fields reserved for use by the Toluca Baseball League. Expect picnic tables? Sorry, nada. Need a playground for your little ones? Nope, won't find that here either. You will find ample parking though! So, what kind of crappy park is this, you wonder?! I agree that a park consisting mostly of green space/trees and some baseball diamonds may not sound like the best park in the world, but somehow this sleepy little park is perfect for a quiet retreat. Located seconds from Universal Studios and the 101, one would expect annoying car honks and shouts wafting in but the park is actually comparable to a gentle ocean. South Weddington is zen and peaceful and great for the a blanket, picnic basket, and a loved one. I know this because I have done the above mentioned activity. It is also great for a soccer game, game of catch, or Frisbee with the dog. If you DO need a playground and picnic tables, head only .2 miles away to North Weddington Park (you can walk) and you will find some better accommodations. Sometimes we need a no-frills, quiet, peaceful moment to clear our heads. South Weddington is the perfect go-to spot. read more

Very cool park, discovered it while waiting for someone to get done with an audition across from NBC Universal. I've driven by 100 times on Lankershim buy youd never know it was there. probably a great gem for the neighborhood homes in the area but if you're in this area it's worth a little time to relax. It's not officially a dog park but I saw a lot of four-legged creatures off the leash so a good place to bring pets if you have them! read more

This park is huge and tons of parking on the top park. It's a larger park with shade and grass area. A lot of people bring their dogs or jog around here and it's awesome. There are a lot of holes in the middle of the ground. I'm always afraid it's a ant hill. There is room for dancing here... Especially large groups... Just saying... Flash mob practice! Positives: Relatively quiet, shady spots, food trucks on the weekdays along Bluffside, dirt path. Negatives: No benches, no playground, baseball fields are not open to the public, dirt path gets muddy after a rain or if they turn on the sprinklers the night before it is overcast, and watch out for gopher holes. I am surprised there aren't many people or dogs with twisted ankles from all the holes and collapsed tunnels that run through the park. ...but as long as you know what to expect, it is a very nice park with neighborly patrons and their dogs. read more

I would stay away. There are two little league fields and no one else can use them. The dirt path is not great for jogging - it's covered with weeds when it's not soaking wet. People bring their dogs here and let them run ragged. Those gopher holes you see - most of them are dug by dogs, who dig two feet deep as their owners watch. Honestly, a little boring. The most action this park sees is on weekday afternoons when Bluffside Dr. plays host to half a dozen food trucks for the Universal crowd. And while the cuisine is plentiful and the style varies, you're gonna have a rough time finding a place to sit down and eat. My best advice is to bring a blanket or some collapsible chairs so that you can relax on the grass, because there's little else to do. The park is essentially one long hiking circle with an expanse of grass and a few scattered trees. It's small and quaint, but it could definitely benefit from a picnic table or two. Or even a bench. I've gotten into the habit of eating my lunch on the bleachers of the baseball field. Oh yeah, and there's a baseball field. It's at the northwestern side of the park, and it's also small, but probably serves as a nice field for the local little league or something. I've seen people jogging the trail for exercise or walking their dogs. It's not the kind of park you'd come to for a cookout or a large family gathering. But it is clean, and for a park that's visited by at least five food trucks everyday, that can't be no small feat. My only aesthetic qualm is the presence of dirt mounds on the hill that slopes down to the park from Bluffside. Mounds... or holes... I'm not sure what they are, but I've watched people trip over them. And yes, I laughed, but that's not the point. It's dangerous. So, look, if you're searching for a local park to lounge at, maybe spread out a blanket and catch some rays, or even just speed walk in a few circles and work out those glutes - South Weddington could be for you. But if you're a bar-b-quer with a hunger for streams, foliage and photo opportunities - then keep looking. read more

A great neighborhood park, but it does not include a playground. It does however have a sandy track to run/ walk around, and it's shaded by trees and surrounded by grass on either side. Makes for quite a pleasant stroll. There's also a baseball field, which is usually occupied by a game or practice. There's a small yet adequate parking lot for this park. I see a lot of dogs run here off-leash, so that's a pleasant sight to see while running around the mini-track! Oh yeah, and there's a whole line of food trucks on one end of this park. So again if you come here to run, be prepared to run pass the smell of fooooooood. In general I'd say this park has a lot of great "features", albiet no playground. It's minute away from Universal Studios. But realistically, if you want to WALK to Universals' CityWalk, it'd take about 15 minutes because most of it is uphill!! It's also close to the 101 and the metro station so be prepared to breathe smog if you decide to walk to this park. read more

Probably the nicest place in the area to go exercise outside and play with your kids ! Community events occur here all the time so it's very family friendly place to spend the day. Although I have only been here during the weekdays when it's pretty empty, I can imagine it's pretty busy. Also plenty of parking which is rare in la ! read more

I wanted to eat my In-N-Out burger in a park, so I decided to check out nearby South Weddington Park. Upon arriving I saw that there were no tables at this park, so for convenience I opted to eat my burger in my parked car with the windows rolled down. The park was very clean - very green, lots of trash cans - and lots of sports teams of all ages. Unfortunately, the park is bordered by the 101 freeway, which is very noisy. I have not yet visited adjacent North Weddington Park. read more

It used to be a five, but that was a long time past. They carved out about half the park and made it a parking lot for the subway. Shed a tear Joni Mitchell. Over the years the water schedule has been reduced and maintenance has been cut back so the old girl's dress looks a little thin and weary. The gophers now rule after single-handedly ruining the brave hearted efforts of the Tree People to replant several trees that were lost during storms. The lunch trucks are fine, but what kind of chintzy park doesn't even have a bench or a few tables? The neighbors are happier now since the park lost some of its popularity several years ago when the city managed to de-dogify the place by repeated costly NON-JURISDICTIONAL raids by the Rangers, park police and LASO. If it wasn't for Carmine Miceli's sponsorship of Toluca Baseball, the park would have declined even more than it has. Now that Tom Labonge has gone and the big Universal development plan is in temporary stasis maybe this lovely little park can be brought back to life. read more
