Nice oasis in the middle of the city! There's a parking lot near the entrance which is a major plus. ColdwaterCanyon Park isn't your typical one, but it has easy hiking trails (connects to Fryman Canyon), benches and beautiful views. Another bonus is Tree People with their nice plants, picnic benches and clena restrooms. Sometimes I like to bring a book and read, relax, enjoy the peace (when not interrupted by leaf blower at some house in the hills). There are water fountains and a snack vending machine with healthier options. This is a great place to take a walk, exercise, hike, depending what you are in the mood for. The views are amazing and it's great to be surrended by nature, so many trees and birds (I have seen many blue birds around). Keep your music to yourself (bring those earbuds), there are many shady spots and cute flowers, depends on the season. I've been doing this trail, or these trails, since the mid to late 90s. I've typically followed the common path, which is paved for a portion, open dirt road for a portion, and has some light hiking type trails but mostly easy. Today I took the path less traveled that leads to the main path at the center point, and it was intense but good. Highly recommend pants if you do that path. Views aren't spectacular but cool. No animals on our route today thankfully as there could've been snakes given the heat! read more

The parking was adequate but I recommend arriving very early or near sunset. Otherwise the busy level is high. It's a fun walk accessible from the valley or Beverly Hills. read more

This is a great trail for a morning run, hike, or bike. The views are beautiful and the sunset is worth the hike. The inclines are just right and the flat areas are perfect for dogs or kids. Definitely try to catch the sunrise or sunset if you have a moment. read more

Whenever we come to this park, we usually will park at the TreePeople Center which is just off Coldwater Canyon Drive. Admittedly, I don't know this trail well enough to know if there are other access points or parking area. The 3.1 mile trail is wide, not usually busy and is dog-friendly. I've only been here less than 20 times over the years that I come to visit and it appears that not many people hike this trail. From the TreePeople Center, it's a downhill hike and we've often just turned around to get back to our car so we have encountered uphill terrain. IMHO, from what we've seen, there are great views of the San Fernando Valley below and the sounds of traffic seem to disappear the further into the trail you go. Because this trail has varying degrees of elevations you should be aware of the bare ground and from what I understand, there are snakes up here. Granted, we're in THEIR environment and they're probably more afraid of humans but please exercise caution! Hmm, maybe because we don't have snakes in Hawai'i, I'm more fearful of even thinking about encountering one. Well, maybe I'll just stick to urban hiking where there are paved trails or paths like at the other Coldwater Canyon Park located at North Beverly Drive. Ohhh, I am such a scaredy-cat. read more

This park is really nice to spend time in your spare time with your family or friends, mainly with dogs. The hiking is easy, wonderful views with benches or tables to make pick nick. They have parking lot. It is free! And you can connect other side with other park Franklin Park . You should go! read more

There are three groups of people in LA: (1) People who hate hiking and only do it for exercise. Their faces reflect pure disgust but their love handles keep them motivated. (2) People who like hiking but mostly for the sake of seeing and being seen in their brand-new Nike track suit at Runyon Canyon. (3) People who actually LOVE hiking, big or small, and don't just do it for a workout but because they are grateful to live in an area where hiking is even possible. I am proudly a member of group # 3. As a member of group 3, I seek out all trails including that of Coldwater Canyon Park. Coldwater Canyon Park is a large chunk of canyon and trails located at Studio City extending to Beverly Hills consisting of Wilacre Park (my review: http://www.yelp.com/biz/wilacre-park-studio-city#hrid:_S1YmvqZOCTU0y7Mz1oZAA), Fryman Canyon, Franklin Canyon, lookouts such as Nancy Hoover Pohl lookout (my review: http://www.yelp.com/biz/nancy-hoover-pohl-overlook-los-angeles#hrid:dT7-5ze1jil4EAoDXMHAkg) and is owned by the city of LA but maintained by non-profit organization Tree People (my review: http://www.yelp.com/biz/treepeople-beverly-hills#hrid:f37Sw5m7tmh45bJRwrj32Q). Coldwater Canyon Park has several hiking trails to choose from which is great to accommodate to your personal level of fitness. There are inclined trails (Betty B. Dearing Trail) and some flatter ones available such as the Torrey Pines Trail. Plus, tons of smaller less-beaten paths that favor a single-file formation to trek. Basically, even after a couple trips to Coldwater, you will still have trails left to discover. All have amazing panoramic views of the SFV (see my photos). Granted, they aren't the most extensive workouts, but great for a warm-up, weekday outing, or double it up on the weekend for a more intense cardio burn. Aside from the wider hiking trails, the smaller paths provide wonderful meetings with Mother Nature. Beautiful wildflowers, little critters such as bunnies, gophers, lizards, and rattle snakes (be careful!!!), butterflies, and gorgeous hummingbirds. In fact, I had the lovely experience of walking into a hummingbird playground. There were at least 20 hummingbirds zipping around! They truly looked like they were playing and flew so close to my ears, that the wind moved my hair and the buzzing of their wings were loud as helicopters! They were absolutely adorable. Searching for a spot for your next sunset photo shoot? Whether you seek city lights in the valley below or a fiery sky with a galore of colors (see these photos of mine, as well); Coldwater has it. To get to the point, this park features both exercise and nature hikes, beautiful photo opps, and a chance to clear your head better than the therapist you pay half your paycheck to. So skip your obsession with trying to look cute at Runyon hoping to see a celeb, and head to Coldwater Canyon Park. read more

What a great and easy hike! It's well maintained and has very pretty views. It's ideal to meet friends from LA and the valley to hike here since it's off of Coldwater and Mulholland. There are lots of LEASHED dogs (some people also were not following the rules though) and kids. Great for the whole family although you might want to make sure you bring either a stroller or Ergo since it isn't ideal for kids who tire easily. Our dogs didn't do so well with it since they are tiny and not built for this long of a walk. read more

This review is partially for the park itself, partially for Tree People which is on a separate page but they maintain the trails here, so it seems the two are closely tied. First of all, the events they host here at the amphitheater are incredible! I have been able to attend two -- a radio play version of "Casablanca" and "The Thin Man" which was LOVELY. And such a cool way to encounter these classic works. The re-enactment of the LUXE soap ads was hilarious!!!! We also attended "A Midsummer Nights Dream" screening and that was also wonderful -- the director was there to answer questions. So fun! In short, this is an incredible outdoor event venue. As for the trails themselves, I have only walked one of them -- and it was gorgeous, with deer wandering in the gully below, and a stunning sunset. Depending on the trail, it was relatively uncrowded. And with the care they give to the trails, so incredibly clean and peaceful! High praise to all the staff and volunteers and the work they are doing here that we all are fortunate enough to enjoy. :) read more

This is a solid place to hike, close to where we live. We found easy parking at Tree People on a Sunday morning around 9am (granted the weather was a bit cold and drizzly). We started the trail from Tree People. Relatively easy downhill, steady uphill on the way back. Pretty good workout. The trail is wide and well maintained. Great views of the valley throughout. There were a fair amount of people on the trail at 9am, so I'd imagine it gets pretty busy at peak times. This is a solid option for a good hike within the Sherman Oaks/Studio City area. This is a lovely, moderate, 4 mile hike tucked away in a 45 acre park smack dab in the middle of the city. I entered off of Coldwater and Mullholland for free parking (There's a fee off Fryman) at the Tree People. This is the non-profit organization that maintains the park. They do a fantastic job too. The park is very clean with trash cans here and there as well as drinking fountains and benches. There are picnic tables near the Coldwater entrance. This organization also offers full moon hikes for $5 through the park. Park hours are 6:30am to sunset everyday. Dogs are welcome on leashes and bags are even provided. Tree people has bathrooms on sight. It was not crowded at all and I came at 11 am on a Saturday. I only encountered 1 bicyclist too. I didn't see any snakes and I definitely had my eyes open after reading all the other reviews. Certain parts are shady but a lot aren't so be sure to load on the sunscreen and bring some agua. read more

The sounds of the city are not far away here. It's deceiving through photos but still obviously a city park. Lots of people come here to walk their dogs. They have nice views but there are some closed trails and trails with ugly fencing which destroys the whole point of the hiking trail. It's not nature if you can see chain linked fences and hear cars driving around. The views are pretty nice though in certain parts. read more

YES !!! Finally a clean park ! Thank you to my beautiful city of Beverly Hills for such a clean and fun park!! I have a 7 month old that I've been bringing him to this park since he was 5 months old. This is hands down the greatest park. Very clean had an amazing playground and awesome man made river that kids play in on hot days. The park also has a huge grass area where kids can play,run around and have picnics. Also a track to talk around across the street and another huge grass area the street. Bathrooms are also very clean! Parking is in the street and yes it gets busy here! read more

Great for a nice walking/running trail The parking is FREE and the views are amazing. I entered on Coldwater Canyon but I think there may be multiple entry points. It's dog friendly so feel free to bring your pooch. It's also a cute place to just workout and chitchat while checking out nature. I will have to add I saw 2 snakes (not sure if they were rattle snakes) but they weren't bothering anyone. This is a nature walk so its expected you will see some of the critters that live here so be careful if you are bringing small kids. Waaaay better than running on a treadmill at a gym and its FREE. Eh, is all i can really say. it has a very neat common area but the "trails" are not long enough, end abruptly and lead to the street. It is a great place for kids to go on a field trips since it has displays on rock formation and every tree has its proper name proudly displayed. This passed weekend i stumbled upon this cool park while visiting a friend up in the never ending twist & turns. We passed it on our way to the BBQ & decided to walk off the food after stuffing our faces . This park was great & reminds me alot of Elysian Park. There is a parking lot. I loved the trails & beautiful views. I even saw a rabbit! Check it out but make sure to take water & pls keep your doggies on leashes. read more

Easy parking for $3. This city park offers beautiful views and nicely groomed trails. Plus the smell of fresh eucalyptus trees fills the air. There are some very nice easy paths if you are looking for a leisure stroll. I love the views and also enjoy walking through the residential areas to see those gorgeous big homes that I could never afford. It's also a quick drive up Laurel Canyon from West Hollywood. Definitely a nice alternative to the busy Runyon Canyon where there is no shade, street parking, and the smell of dog pee. read more

ALL PATHS LEAD TO FRYMAN CANYON. I have been on a SEARCH for other hiking trails in Studio City/Sherman Oaks that are NOT Fryman. Wilacre Park=Fryman Canyon. This park is above Fryman, but each trail just dead ends after less than 10 minutes walking. Your only option is to go down to Fryman for a real hike. read more

Coldwater Canyon Park - LA! - Parks Near Me - Beverly Hills, California

Coldwater Canyon in an oasis from the bustle of city life here in CA. I was here on April 2 and the hillsides were a vibrant yellow with wild daisies. Like some have suggested, park at the location called the "tree people", and from the parking lot proceed directly East past the buildings and you will see a trail descending to the main Coldwater Canyon trail. This trail is a hard pack clay and is roughly the size of a normal road. At sunrise there were a few using it, but as the morning progressed it became more heavily frequented by the local community for their morning walks. Proceed to the left and shortly you will go up a small incline and will find a trail head immediately on the right. This is a single track has a small short steep section, before it's leads across the crest of a ridge. If you're here in the springtime you will not go far before being greeted by a sea of daisies. I did not see more than one or two people on the trail so it's a great place to find some quiet time as you hike. There are multitude of side trails crisscrossing this area and it would be easy to spend significant amounts of time exploring. As you will tell from the photos I was here at sunrise and felt at times that I had the whole park to myself. This is been by far the highlight of my trip to Universal Studios. read more
