Great food, great seat, great service! Peruvian Tacos - delicately fried tortillas with perfectly seasoned meat, and the avocado sauce was *chef's kiss* for it. Chicken Poblano Enchiladas were filled with shredded chicken and topped with a delicious sauce. Flavors, not heat, were featured. The accompanying red cabbage salad offered a different texture that played off of the entrees. We sat on the upper level where we could watch the goings-on in the market and see others enjoying themselves at Pybus. Our server was attentive, and helpfully explained the things we had questions about. Overall, a very good experience and we definitely will stop back on our next Wenatchee visit. read more

I've eaten at South in Leavenworth amd loved it - but it's not the same at The Public Market in Wenatchee . I told the server I couldn't have gluten , but he mixed the corn and flour chips together in one bowl . They were good about switching us to an outdoor table , but when I used the restroom, there was NO toilet paper . When I told them the response was " I don't know who you expect me to tell !" Our bill was over 100.00 for 4 people but forget having toluene paper or customer service . They advertised their drinks but were out of many of them, blaming covid . I mean - just go to the store for coconut mix ! It's not like a "premium" ingredient ! The meal was like "eh"- I got the carne asada and it was just ok for the price . Everyone liked their meal fine , but I don't think this restaurant is worth the price, and with the response I got from their staff about having to drip dry, they will never see me again . I have seen mixed reviews for South at Pybus Market and decided to be adventurous and check it out for myself. We toodled on down to the market late afternoon on a Sunday when things were pretty quiet. Greeted promptly and chose to sit up stairs for the view. Our servers were prompt and attentive and we had water served quickly. Perused the drink menu and I chose a bottled beer while my wife had their Daisy Margarita. Nothing fancy, just a basic drink that was $8.95. I got my bottle of beer and my wife was served this sad little 7 or 8 ounce drink. The tequila was rough, the drink strong, and it was gone in a few sips since it was mostly ice. Definitely way overpriced considering the size and quality of the drink. For a meal I ordered the Taco plate which was three small soft shell tacos with chicken and tomatillo for $10.95. A few chips and some cabbage came on the side. In comparison, this exact same Taco plate at Alma's is $5.95. The chicken was overpowered by the tomatillo but overall wasn't bad, just too spicy. My wife ordered a chicken with tomatillo burrito and commented that the burrito tasted as if it had been frozen and reheated. She had the same opinion concerning the chicken. Our trip was disappointing and expensive... Our ticket for the Taco plate, burrito, one beer and one margarita, was almost $38 plus a tip for the server. The food looked like it had a lot of potential, but some of it wasn't executed very well for probably a variety of reasons. It seems like the flavoring was a bit reserved and some of the cuts of meats used were a bit too lean and dry. Some of the rice in the kid's meals were actually undercooked and not really edible. Good thing there were plenty of other things to munch on around the table. The service was excellent, and we were seated right away to our table for our large party. Sat upstairs and had nice friendly conversations with the bartenders on a quiet December afternoon. Enjoyed the flour tortilla chips which were hot and delicious! Limited beers on tap but they have a variety of liquors available and seem to make lots of fun mixed drinks! Disappointing, especially for the price. A $15 burger used maybe the worst patty I've ever seen: a flat grey soy-meat thing that looked microwaved not grilled. With Mexican cheese on a ciabatta bun. It really was inedible. The Carnitas tacos were better. Only weak spot there was the red salsa for the 7 or 8 chips that came with the tacos: it tasted like Pace. We have enjoyed SOUTH in Leavenworth, WA for years and got to enjoy this new location just recently. Tuesday is a special day with some $2 tacos and $2 off beer and wine so our daughter invited us to join them. Seated outside on the riverside patio area we got to enjoy Chumstick Liberation Front music, good food and drinks. This is just as good as the Leavenworth original site from our first impression. The only reason this doesn't get 1 star is the small amount of food I did get was good. First of all the upstairs and outdoor seating is nice. Great ambience. Our service was terrible. The food portions were tiny for the price. The food, was tasty though. I paid $13 for three all carte beef tacos. They were equivalent to a taco truck where they are $1 a piece. My husband and I ate one entree off the lunch menu and each had one well drink cocktail and our bill was $48. No chips or salsa is provided at the table. We weren't even directed to the salsa bar I had to look for it myself. I ran out of water twice. We left hungry and angry. The building is cool though. read more

Short story: great service, atmosphere, food, and menu. When I arrived the hostess had just departed to seat other guests. Then along comes a young woman portaging a bucket of ice for the bar. She promptly set the bucket of ice down to find a table for me. I knew I was in a restaurant owned by pros: customer comes first. The Latin inspired menu featured a large selection of tequilas and regionally specific Latin American liqueurs and mixed drinks. For an appetizer, I selected sauteed kale in a chimichurri sauce with raisins and sesame seeds. The dish arrived promptly, and the chef prepared it perfectly. The kale wilted just enough, and the sauce felt light not overpowering in texture or taste. The vinegar in the sauce balanced nicely. South's version of the surf and turf beckoned me from the entree menu - a strip steak and a seafood enchilada with liqueur infused pinto beans. Perfect. That dish too delivered the goods. I tried three salsas from the salsa bar about which locals rave. All represent inspired concoctions, loads of flavor - nothing ordinary here - a "so much more" pico, a red sauce, and a fiery hot yet savory roasted sauce of a deep red color. The enchilada came not in the traditional soggy tortilla bathed in cheap sauce, but a luscious corn wrapping like you'd find on a tamale - but fluffier. The house made salad dressing impressed as well - a roasted pepper type ranch dressing yet with more bite, and less weight than ranch. You hardly noticed it was there at all but oh the flavors. The chef topped the steak with sauteed onions - but these had been dusted ever-so-lightly with onion ring coating. Awesome - that taste you love without the bulkiness of batter or the inelegance or impertinence battered rings would have cast upon the dish. Full, I ordered desert anyway. I chose the flan - how could you not? The flan proved Aristotlean - exactly what you'd expect of a flan - except it wasn't garnished with a mint leaf or anything for that matter. Who needs it? South serves a sumptuous local coffee, roasted with dark chocolate. Like everything they do at this restaurant, the chocolate serves only to set this coffee apart, not define it. With a convention in town, the restaurants servers faced large parties, the kitchen staff forced to churn out 15 and more entrees at a time. Holy cow. Yet, the table behind me ordered something not on the menu (chilaquilles - a breakfast item to boot) and the gracious and smiling server delivered one plate of chilaquiles lickitty-split. Amazing. Open only a year or so, South has rotated things on and off the menu, and from what I can glean being a tourist in the city, developed a loyal local following. There's everything to like here which should insure that South has a good long run in this beautiful new public market facility. read more

Overrated & overpriced. Small portions for too much money. You can get a better and bigger burrito at the local taco truck. The so called "famous" salsa" and chips are very boring and tasteless. Charging people for salsa & chips is a low blow, very bland and boring. Most salsas at local restaurants in the valley are made from scratch / local ingredients and they don't charge you. Margaritas are "ok" nothing too special (small glasses) honestly not sure what all the hype is about. Not explaining that 2nd round of chips are corn chips when you first paid flour chips, not offering to replace or remove a child's meal from the ticket that my son clearly did not like, not knowing the spices in the chicken (clearly had cumin in it, my son doesn't like cumin), and not explaining uncharges. The waiter was personable, but competency and personable are not the same. Expensive: I worked in the restaurant business for years. Food cost should be about 30%. Flour and corn tortillas, beans, rice, and salsa are cheap to make. we didn't buy the stuffed jalapeños because two of them are $5.95? Really? $1.95 to sub French fries for corn chips on a kids meal. This was the up-charge not explained. The kids meal ended up costing $8 for two 4" corn tortillas and about 3-4 oz plain ( cumin) seasoned chicken. $20 for a "quesadilla" smeared with a few black beans and a few ounces of shredded pork we substituted for the steak. I've heard the Leavenworth store is better. This is certainly not an upscale creative Mexican/Southwest/Central American/South American restaurant, but it charges like one. Over $50 ticket price for one adult entree, a kids meal, one Pina colada, and flour chips with salsa. Food: The flour tortilla chips are best thing on the menu in my opinion, but then your second bowl will be corn. The rest is palpable but not too exciting and overpriced. read more

Normally a medium-rare steak is not medium rare. These guys did it perfectly. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time. 5 stars for getting it not right, but perfect. The Server/Bartender was personable and a good conversationalist. The salsa bar was excellent. Three items in the selection and all were exemplary of the craft of cuisine. Stopped here to eat for a midday lunch and was seated quickly. The food came quickly too which was nice.. I got the burrito bowl with carnitas. It was a decent size but I've seen slightly bigger portions. The actual food was ok - the guacamole was ok, fair amount of meat but I didn't like how the lettuce was buried beneath everything. The chips I could've did without or given the opportunity to switch with something. I had some of the molè which stayed true to the description of having a chocolate taste that isn't too strong, still I've had a far better mole. Everything about the meal was mediocre not bad, but not all that good. The salsas were a bit weak too even the 'diablo' so I was let down by those too. I heard this place was really good so my expectations were somewhat high. Perhaps the location in Leavenworth is better? In any case fair Mexican food, but you may find something better. read more

We stopped by mid day (about 3:30) on a Saturday after a relaxing stroll through the Pybus public market. Restaurant foods in general is usually.. fine, but forgettable. Not the case for the mission style burrito with the Peruvian chicken I had. Everything about it, from the flavoring in the beans and rice to the chicken itself, was perfect. The Asada tacos and mojitos were also excellent, but don't miss the Peruvian chicken while they are offering it.. it is spectacular. read more

The food was decent. I got the three little pigs tacos, which is 3 different types of pork tacos, 2 of which were very good, but the chorizo was very greasy. It comes with some tasty beans (yum), but the rice wasn't that good-kinda soft. The coleslaw/cabbage that also comes with it is really good! We also got the kids chicken tacos, which comes with tortilla chips. The chicken tacos were fine, but pretty boring, but I guess kids like boring food, but I wish it came with other options besides just tortilla chips, like beans and rice for kids. The service was good, fast and friendly. They did forget to tell me about the salsa bar, so I ate one of the tacos dry (and it was very dry) before asking and finding out about it. Overall I felt the price for the taco plate was more than it was worth, but I would go back as the food is pretty good. read more

Came in for a late dinner with a party of 5 including a child. A quick, friendly greeting, and when my daughter-in-law asked asked what was gluten free, our waitress asked if she was only gluten free or celiac, which she is. Then she ran down which foods could be cross-contaminated with wheat and said she'd make sure the kitchen prepared her foods separately. We go out to eat frequently in the Seattle area and that has NEVER HAPPENED. Obviously the reviewers who complained about poor service weren't waited on by the young lady we got. We seriously appreciated the concern for her health, celiac is a serious health condition that took her years to figure out and can be derailed by something as simple as flour tortillas being on the same surface as corn ones. So nice to start our visit off that way and they would've gotten 3 stars for that even if the food was crap, which it most definitely wasn't. I wasn't super hungry so I just had the tuna ceviche. Now, I am picky, picky, picky about ceviche and this stuff was delicious. It had been given proper marinade time and the tuna was the main ingredient, not skimpy at all. Two slices of jalapeno on top, and I like the little bit of seasoning they sprinkle on the corn chips, not too much and not salty. Street corn could've been cooked a bit more for my taste but my wife liked it. Carne Asada & quesadilla was delicious and our son made short work of it. Vegetarian tacos were a hit with my daughter-in-law. The three little pigs tacos my wife had were the only miss. The al pastor one was a different style with a sauce covering the meat. My wife didn't care for (I enjoyed it), and the pulled pork one was mostly fat. When we told our waitress she immediately took it off the bill. The cilantro lime rice and the beans with everyone's entrees were delicious too, a nice different take on the same old you get at most Mexican places. The building it's really neat too, reminded us of the ferry terminal in San Francisco. It was a steel mill for years, apparently. We'll have to come back in the daylight when the rest of it is open. Our waitress was nice to our grandson too, asking him if he'd like an extra set of wiki sticks, a nice thing when you have a 3 hour drive ahead of you with a 6 year old. All in all, this a nice thing to see in Wenatchee, where dining options can be a bit limited compared to Seattle, and the service really made it a home run. read more

It can sometimes be hard to find the perfect restaurant. One that not only has amazing food but also has great drinks, an environment you never want to leave and a staff that makes all that happen. I finally found one: South (in Pybus market). I'm a frequent flyer there now and I have never had a bad time! The staff is the first thing you notice- everyone was smiling and looked like they were having fun- which is awesome since they are alway PACKED and being happy through that can't always be easy. They love the food and drinks as much as everyone else so when you ask "what's good?", you get an actual answer- not a script (talking to you Olive Garden). I usually get Max, who's a charm a charm!! The carnitas. Enough said. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful. The lime, cilantro rice with beans and fresh made tortillas was excellent. People who came in after and ordered after us got their food and were done eating before our server came over to tell us that "our food was coming up in a couple of minutes". Complained to the "manager" and he comped our bill. While doing this they delivered one of our dishes but didn't deliver either of the other two. Left and never coming back.
