Every time I have visited Southeastern camera - whether that be to purchase film, a new film camera, or shopping for a gift for someone else, the employees have always been so so helpful. The man who helped me during my first visit was very kind, experienced, and easy to talk to when I was choosing my first film camera to purchase. I never felt as though I was being sold to as he genuinely cared about my needs and what I was looking for. He brought out multiple different cameras for me to hold and try out which he absolutely didn't have to do. He also showed me how to load my film and how to work my film camera and then offered to take a picture of my siblings and I on the first frame which was definitely a moment I'll always remember! Since that day, I have been back to help my brother buy a camera as a gift for his girlfriend and even then I can attest to their experience and guidance. The same man who helped me the first time helped my brother and brought out several film cameras for him to test out and hold. He was super helpful in the decision process and my brother left feeling like he made a well-informed purchase. I have also sought out Southeastern camera's services for a repair on my Canon AE-1 Program that was making a strange fluttering sound when you'd take a photo. They explained to me what would need to be done and I dropped off my camera for them to work on it. Although I was anxious about leaving my camera there in a pool of other cameras (it was a gift from my grandad's good friend who no longer used it), the clerks at Southeastern Camera either called or left voicemails at any chance of an update on my camera. After about a week and many lubricating treatments, my camera was ready for pickup. The cost was only $20! This was super refreshing since I didn't know if it was $20 per lubricant application or for the overall service. Either way, any time I or my brother have bought cameras from the store, they were either fairly priced or cheap (still good quality). Overall, I'd absolutely recommend Southeastern Camera. I have never had a bad experience here and always feel like I can come to them for help with any photography needs. I do plan to start getting my film developed here instead of mailing it, which I am looking forward to. read more

This is a must visit business if you are into photography or video. The customer service was fantastic, yet not pushy or too much. I was asked if I had any questions or needed any help by probably everyone working that day, but they were helpful and wanted to let me know they were there to help. A good and complete selection of used and new cameras, lenses, misc gear. More than enough employees there to help with any questions and easy to flag down for help I ended up buying a remote trigger for my Nikon, there are many different connections so the person helping me opened the container and pulled a used Nikon out to ensure it would fit and gave a quick how-to on the trigger. Wasn't planning on it, but the price was right so why not. I will definitely be returning for future needs and support my local small business as much as possible read more

Rip off. I brought in 10 slides that survived a fire & a roll of film left in an old point&shoot camera for 25yrs, plus exposed while in camera, to print what was salvageable. The whole job--25 photos in all was to cost $40, which they said was discounted rate. I talked, said I could go to Walmart. Was told Walmart doesn't do slides--a lie--and further that they Southeastvwould clen the slides carefully, get photos in good shape for printing--anothet lie. They printed the slides BACKWARDS and there was clearly spots of dirt on the slides that you can see on the prints. Almost every photo was blurry, so no special effort related to that (if shops cam, do, don't know--my phone cleans some up, so would expect them to be able to). They also printed several of the overexposed shots from camera, when told not to. And they left the negatives as one big inconvenient roll rather than cut & put in a safety sleeve. So basically they lied through their teeth to extract $40 from a elderly fire survivor fir crappy service. I had though of buying a used camera or lens from them, but I won't buy anything there ever again. Lesson learned. ​​​​​ read more

I tried to develop a roll of film here and they said that their machine jammed. My film was lost and they offered a refund and to give me a couple of rolls of film. Honestly, I don't really ever leave reviews, but if you have a roll of film you don't want to be ruined go somewhere else. I've had a number of film rolls developed and they were never ruined until I went here. Nice people, but I don't want anyone to lose any valuable photos they have. read more

I went to Southeastern Camera to get a camera bag. As soon as I walked in I was bowled over by their extensive inventory. Not just camera bags, but bodies, lenses and accessories of every description. As I looked deeper, I couldn't help but notice that they had items I'd previously purchased online, but at better prices. I quickly had buyer's remorse--had I come here first, not only would I have gotten a better deal but I would have been able to actually see and try out the item first. I found a couple of bags that I'd seen online, but here I was able to evaluate their size, features and quality 'side by side.' That's when their superior customer service came into play. I described my gear and my needs and one of the sales clerks said "let's try it out." He took my camera model off the shelf and we tried it in the various bags. Another clerk who'd been also helping me said he had one and described it's strengths and weaknesses. They answered my questions but without any hint of pressure to buy one over another or (somewhat surprisingly to me) any pressure to buy anything at all. This is the kind of professional service and product knowledge that frankly I thought was extinct. Sale made, and this customer left very happy. I'm about to make a major upgrade to my camera and lens system and I've been diligent about finding the right moment to get the best possible price. My visit to Southeastern Camera reminded me that price isn't the first and last concern. Service, knowledge and insights on how to get the best use and enjoyment from my investment is invaluable--that's one reason why I'm looking forward to my next visit, and the overwhelmingly friendly people and pleasant experience has me excited at the prospect. read more

The service was excellent! We were given personal attention for quite a long time; I had a lot of questions. They allowed me to test multiple camera bodies and lenses to suit my needs. When our main attendant didn't know an answer, he didn't hesitate to bring in another expert. Both very knowledgeable and helpful. No high pressure (which - quite honestly - helped the sale). The selection/inventory is AMAZING at this place. Pricing was competitive - even better than what I could find online. Came here on a Saturday afternoon after a friend recommended the store for camera equipment and information about our new camera. I don't know much about lenses and camera equipment, and Hans was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and made everything easy to understand. He listened to our needs, and we did not feel pressured to buy anything. We felt comfortable and trusted his judgement. He gave us several options and took his time with us. SE camera is the best place in the area for an old film guy like me. They left side of the store is for film cams, the right for digital and the rear contains a processing lab. The middle is a collection of new accessories, as well as bins of junk straps and random other equipment. I went in looking for a Pentax LX. They had two, but the bodies were a bit too worn for me. There was a little mint Nikon FE that caught my eye. I bought her and a beautiful 28mm 2.0 and departed. Prices are elevated but they do negotiate. For me, this is better than buying sight unseen off of eBay. In summary, prices a little high, selection good, the store smelled like old army surplus, and I loved it. read more

Jamey Reynolds was absolutely phenomenal with his customer service. Sometimes it can be hard to find someone who listens to understand and leads with kindness and compassion. Jamey manages to go above and beyond. Today, he helped be troubleshoot and find a solution for an ND filter for my a6000. He even went as far as to look at a few minutes of my footage and provide constructive criticism. I'm new to the triangle and walked in randomly 30mins before closing greeted with all smiles. It was like walking into a candy store. It felt like going to BH photo in New York but with a much smaller footprint. They had everything I could think of. One of the workers showcased/ let me take sample images with the Leica q, Leica monochrome, M3 and M6. They even went into great detail with each camera and lens. I knew I had to come back the next day and trade in my equipment. I got amazing trade value and was able to come home with a film Leica. I was surprised because from past experiences local shops offer wayyyy lower than market value. On my out, I realized they develop film too! Grabbed a ticket, submitted a roll without question. It's been a long long time since I've developed and printed my own photos. Walking into Southeastern Camera was like being transported back to the 80's. Boxes of old cameras and lenses litter the floor, very nostalgic. I think they sell printing paper and film as well. I am reviewing the digital printing services. Had some 12x18 prints made for a special event, and Dennis was on hand to help me navigate the printing options. Prints came out great, especially since I opted for larger ones. One of the Triangle's Best Places if you like Photography gear. I've been to Southeastern Camera before and enjoyed by experiences. However this was my first time trading in some older gear towards a newer purchase. It was a new experience for me in general. I took my older lenses into them and got a great trade in quote that was way better than other local camera stores in Raleigh. It was even better then some online retailers that I had checked before. The lens I wanted wasn't in stock but they ordered it and at the cost of online. It was a very pleasant experience trading in gear with them (while not the quickest, but understandably) and i'd highly recommend Their staff was incredibly helpful and even let me try out another lens I had an interest in which got me to trade in more gear towards that. It's a store filled with lots of stuff. Almost too packed if you're just browsing casually it might be a bit overwhelming. Most camera stores are like record stores, a bit all over the place with stuff but that's part of the charm. The biggest downside is their hours. Closing at 6PM most days is tough to make it to since they are close to 45 minutes away. Even their Carrboro location closes very early most days too. I guess it's a camera store thing. If you're a new photographer or seasoned pro I'd recommend Southeastern Camera for all your photography needs. They will get you set up with a new camera, lens, tripod, drone. Southeastern Camera is a great resource for professional photographers, amateurs, and those somewhere between the two. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and willing to help you in whatever you need. One of the best parts is that they have a great selection of used cameras and lenses. They will make sure the used merchandise is cleaned and operable. About a year ago I replaced my aging and faltering Nikon digital with a upgraded used one. It has worked flawlessly. Today I needed to replace a lens that I had been told elsewhere would cost $179 to repair and $199 to replace. I decided to check out the options at SE Camera, and purchased a nice used Nikon lens at about $100. Before I made the purchase I was encouraged to walk outside and take a few shots with this lens to see if I liked it. Finally before I left the store the lens and my camera, including the senors, were cleaned at no cost. Good to see such excellent service still exists. read more

Everyone who works here is so caring and friendly (and knowledgeable without ever being pushy!), and they attract nice customers because of this! I had a trade to bring in for new gear I needed to swap out that other shops were difficult to work with, and they made it a seamless process and did everything in their power to find me what I needed. I was having an absolute terrible day until I stepped foot into their shop. Any place that is as invested in their customers as the shop owner and employees here are, has me invested in them for life! I can't wait to order prints for my clients from them, and I can't wait to order more gear in the future! There is simply no better camera store in the state of NC. This place is the bomb! Whatever you need, you will find it here! You can walk through the aisles seeing all kinds of stuff! They do great reprints, too. My dad was really into cameras and he loved it here. I took some old reel tapes from when Mom and Dad were living in Hiroshima (he was studying the effects of the bomb) and they out-sourced them to a super nice guy who tried so hard to save them.
