Jam packed with various equipment and supplies, I recently stopped by as this was the only store in the area (with a wide radius set) that even carried super 8 film. With that I also expected them to potentially only have one stock, but instead they had all the options, and even better at very reasonable prices (quite literally no price hike, gouging, anything, was the same as if I had ordered online). So suffice it to say the prices were very fair The staff were friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. This is my go-to camera store, even though the 'going' is about an hour each way. The staff is always helpful and doesn't try to upsell at every turn. I recently brought a friend in to get her first 'real' camera and again, the staff made sensible suggestions and she left with a great camera while paying less than she had feared it might cost. It's been a dream film camera for a long time. They all literally celebrated me after the purchase and so I knew they were more than just a business. Excellent camera store and knowledgeable staff. I've been going to this store for years, but my recent experience I had traded in some old gear towards the purchase of a new Canon body. The store had what I wanted in stock and was very prompted appraising the gear for trade in. Typically they say its 24 hours to appraise gear ( a little long compared to other stores) but they actually had it done within an hour. I was about to trade in my gear, and purchase a new camera body. The staff was very polite and knowledgable. This store is a little bit out of my way but i've been going here on and off since high school and want to do my part to help keep them in business and buy local. It's so nice that the triangle area has a good selection of camera stores. Highly recommend this store to professionals and novice photographers. read more

This business was wonderful. I accidentally left my SuperTelephoto lens at home traveling from Hawaii. I was visiting family but wanted to take an opportunity to shoot birds and wildlife. They rented out their original lens I wanted earlier but didn't confirm the rental so they made a special arrangement to use another one. The employees there were very friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend them to anyone traveling to the Chapel Hill/Raleigh/Durham area. Call ahead to see what you can reserve with them. read more

Called the day before looking for a specific mirrorless camera. In fact had a long conversation with the woman about this specific cameras being my third upgrade in this line of camera. She even had a camera in this brand. Drove up from Greensboro. she remembered me and handed me a regular used camera not a new mirrorless. I was floored. Said I wanted a new camera. She had an - oh my god look on her face and said, oh I am so so off, and walked away. At that point the manager ,, maybe owner I don't know them - said sorry human error.He did look to see if they had the camera. Of course they didn't. I have spent many thousands of dollars in that store over Many years. Needless to say going to Charlotte tomorrow for the camera. i Get it is a young staff and into Video and photography. I don't know if it was disinterest or poor traing or management - but something there has changed. read more

A real old time camera store that has all the latest technology. Great service and a very full camera rental area as well as onsite printing. If you buy your interchangeable lens camera there they provide lifetime sensor cleaning. That is a huge savings. read more

I like having a local camera shop in downtown Carrboro. It is well stocked with good customer service and helpful employees. I recently went in there for passport photos not wanting to stand in the middle of CVS and get them done and they were able to help me immediately. I hate getting my photo taken but they were quick and efficient and I was in and out within 5-10 minutes. So whether you are old school/new school-analog/digital, this place has lots to offer from service, product to repair and the dreaded passport picture. read more

Absolutely the best camera store i've been to and i've been to many in LA and NYC. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, and extremely safe during the pandemic. The small store has an incredibly wide selection of camera bodies, lenses, and all the equipment you could ever need. They offer quick and affordable film developing and camera repair. I came in looking for a fisheye lens to fit my PentaxK1000 (really difficult and expensive online). The staff helped me find a lens and an adapter to fit my camera for $35!! He had to dig through some gear while the store was busy to help me but was kind, positive, and helpful the entire time. I also love all of the used camera bags and gear they have, it's all in amazing condition. Bring your camera or whatever else you need help with and the highly educated and equipped staff will make! your! day!! Drove 45 min to the store for 2 specific lenses listed on stores site. First lens was sold and not updated on store website. The second lens was cracked internally and they still wanted $525 for it. Other lenses I looked at in the used section were all dirty and dusty. If you're going to sell used items, at least make them look presentable and worth the price you are asking. I will not be going back to this store. I would not recommend to my photography friends. read more

What an awesome experience visiting one of last remaining hometown camera shops in America. There were no high-pressure salesmen to deal with. Unlike the big box stores who may sell some cameras along with other electronic devices, this shop is a photographer's paradise. The layout of the store is simple and easy to relax in. The employees were more like a favorite teacher from school who were happy to answer questions. If there was something they did not remember or recall, they were honest in saying they didn't know. Maybe things are a bit higher than what you would pay online, but I personally guarantee you will never experience the same customer service anywhere else. In conclusion, I wish I could give higher than a 5-star rating. read more

I have been using a DSLR camera for 13 years now, but the worst mistake I ever made was when I bought my first one (Canon EOS 300D) at a big box camera store. They oversold me and sold me a camera bag that would only fit one lens at best. By the way, that was not Southeastern Camera; I just mentioned that for background info. I wound up getting a telephoto lens later but the camera store I bought it at had since closed. Fast forward to 2017. I decided that I was going to upgrade to a mid-range DSLR camera and was looking at the EOS 70D so I could keep my lenses. I didn't realize that the 70D was being dropped in favor of the 80D. Since my mother moved away from Burlington, I didn't know of a place near her that I could trust, but a friend of hers said to try Southeastern Camera in Carrboro, about 15 minutes from her apartment in Chapel Hill. I could tell right away that I was going to be satisfied with that decision. The staff was friendly and willing to listen to what I needed, rather than what they could sell me. I went back in June of 2017 and bought the 80D. They helped me figure out what I could carry over and what they thought probably was best left with the old camera. They even helped me pick out a new case that holds not just the camera and the included lens but all my accessories, plus my computer. This type of service will ensure that as long as they're open I will use Southeastern Camera for my photography needs. read more

Southeastern is pretty awesome. I visit every couple weeks (at least) to drop off or pick up film. The staff is always very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They have plenty of new and used digital and film gear (that is reasonably priced) if you want to buy stuff, and a good array of photo finishing services. i get 35mm and 120 color and b&w negatives processed there -- they can turn around color negatives in as short as 30 mins, and b&w usually takes a week. The only thing i do not do at Southeastern is E-6 slide processing. i believe they offer it though, it just takes a while (a couple weeks, maybe) and i am too impatient! Anyhow, go there. Then after you're done, you can walk over to Carrboro Beverage or Weaver Street and have a beer. or whatever. read more

Super friendly staff and excellent customer service. I needed to make some prints from photos I shot on my phone, so I called ahead and was told about the kiosk where I could adjust and print on site. When I arrived, I was shown how to use the machine, and was subsequently able to output some great images for framing just in time for Father's Day. I will definitely be back. read more

This place is awesome. I showed up 7 minutes before closing (due to being stuck in traffic) and was expecting either a locked door or annoyed staff. Nope. They helped me right away and we're not annoyed. I was brining Ina really nice nikon camera. My husband had already taken it to a shop who told him it would be $400 to fix but my husband couldn't remember what was wrong. The guy at the counter started playing with it, realized the mirror was jammed, unjammed it, and I walked out with a working camera about 10 minutes later. They were awesome, courteous, and fast. read more

I needed some help evaluating photos from a recent trip to see how much they could be enlarged without distortion. Upon the recommendation of one of the sales' clerks, I made an appointment with Brady Lambert, who does custom printing and Photoshop at Southeastern Camera.. I met with him for over an hour and we went through a number of my photos. He helped me decide which ones to enlarge and did some amazing things with Photoshop, which really enhanced my photos. He also patiently went through all of the features of the kiosk where you can get pictures processed as long as they are 8X10 or smaller. For the larger prints, Brady does the custom developing. What a great service. I am a complete amateur and learned a lot while I was there. This will be my go-to place for photo processing. read more
