I have been going there for many years and for most part service was straight forward even if always giving the feeling that it's a bit to rich for my taste. That being said, today a record was broken! I would usually see the owner there but this time there were two gentlemen's that seems to be his employees. The guy that came approach me looked like he seen a ghost when I gave him a simple cylinder mailbox type and he was having a hard time finding the key that will even go into the cylinder even though I described the exact type of key that I had and lost. Then the real Ridiculousness started when he told me I would have to leave it with him and there is a $75 minimum charge but they charge by the hour and the rate is $150! I wasn't embarrassed to show how shocked I am specially when they did similar jobs of recreating a key for me on different type of locks that I brought them and the only thing you could tell tell me is that it's sorry that I feel like the price is ridiculous but that's the price. To add insult to injury the guy in the back yelling at me that you will take them time to find the correct key blank and once they find them they have to manually file the key to the lock as if we're in the 1950s. Dyslexia in there I brought them is a simple mailbox type cylinder and the wipers are sticking out accessible you can just grab them with your fingernails and yank them out and make the key according to the size of the wipers it honestly shouldn't take more than 15 minutes but for some reason when I came in I guess they thought they can make me leave it with them at $150 an hour rate and they would tell me once they'll decide it's ready that it's being this many hours and my inflated bill they thought would somehow justify a lock that is $10 at Home Depot brand new. Like I said I've been going there for many years I can't even remember how many dozens of work they've done for me they were never the cheapest or never gave me the feeling that I paid even a fair rate always felt like I'm paying on the expensive side of things but they were close to where I work and it was convenient so I paid I continue to come back and I shut up but not anymore. I am now at a different locksmith place waiting for the lock to have his new keys made as I was told it'll be 10 to 15 minutes to recreate them so I'm waiting on site guess what my quote was $35 for the first key $5 for any additional key blank. This company is not Airport Lock and Safe that the Irvine company uses and has great rates with. We were confused with their google adds and called them by mistake. They came out and gave no written bid or had us sign anything to start work. The service technician was very disorganized and missed one of the jobs we asked him to do. When we asked him to make a copy of one of the keys that he had taken from us he told us we should go test them and find out which one is which. Very unprofeesional. For one hour work he gave us a $900 bill. What a scam))) He did come back and finish the missing job and did not chage us for that. Probably becuase he knew he had already robbed us very well. These guys are a complete fraud and took advantage of my wife who was going to be alone one night and decided to re-key the locks for the entry door and the garage door the previous day. 1. They charged her $90 to just show up. 2. They claim they re-keyed 7 locks. I do not have 7 entry doors to my house. 3. What is labor MEA? 4. What is Shim open? 5. The guy according to my wife was there less than an hour. Why $259.50 for an hour of labor? 6. Notice on the bill how the totals are whited out and re-written. Isn't it strange? 7. If the cost of re-key was so much, an honest technician would have suggested that we replace the whole lock with new ones. After all what is the cost of a new dead-bolt lock? I missplaced one of my car keys and copied the OEM key onto a blank I purchased from eBay. This was ~8 years ago and that blank served me well until the key shaft broke from the plastic housing earlier this week. I ordered another one on eBay and Irvine Lock & Key copied my OEM key onto the new blank for me for $5. I paid even less for the blank this time, and so the entire replacement was ~$15 for a new key. Earlier today, I went here to make duplicates of my house keys. It's a small shop in a pretty busy shopping plaza, but it was easy to find. It's located right next to the Sally Beauty store. One of the guys that was working at the counter was extremely helpful. I showed him the keys that I wanted to copy after indicating to him that I wanted a cartoon-design key (costs about $7.50 each). He then directed me to the walls that would be best suited for my particular key. There were a lot of key designs, ranging from sport groups to Disney styles. Moreover, he was also very honest, stating that one of my keys is best done as a direct duplicate (costs about $3.50 each) and not onto one of the design keys. I really appreciated his advice, so I just made a direct duplicate for it. I was in and out of the shop in less than 10 minutes, so it is quite a fast service. He informed me that if there was any issue with the keys, I could just bring them back with the receipt, and they would issue me new ones. That's great service! They also sell lanyards, key rings, key indicators, and other key-related items. I wanted to purchase a key ring, and the guy happily included it into my order FREE! Granted it only cost about $0.60, but it was a sweet gesture. Overall, I would highly recommend getting your keys duplicated at this store. Their customer service is incredible! read more

Came to have 2 aftermarket Honda keys cut. After cutting the keys which was $85/each I was told they won't work to start the car! If I had known before they were cut I would have just returned them and gone to the dealer for new keys. Now I have 2 worthless keys. I was given a discount to $65/each for keys that do not work. Went in to make a duplicate for a car key. I just wanted a simple key (not the button key fobs) for if I ever lock my original key in the car. It was under $5 for 1 key. I was able to walk out with a key in minutes. For the little time and effort it took, I highly recommend everyone to go make duplicates of their car key right away and save yourself the possible future hassle of getting your keys locked in. While there I learned that some cars require a special key to start the car. Even if the simple $5 duplicate key works to open the car, it may not start the car and you will need to pay a lot more if you want the special key with some type of chip in it. I have had two perfect experiences here, several years apart. Both times I tried to get a key made at the kiosk across the way in the Walmart and both times it said I couldn't make copies of the type of key I had. Today we popped over here on our lunch and we were in and out in less than 3 minutes with a new key that set us back a whole $3.45. Ookay i've been here multiple times. I've been here for work reasons and lets just say that I would not come here if it was for personal reasons. Personally I think their customer service lacks a little and could be improved upon but they probably rely on repeated customers. It's about $9 to make a key and about $20 to make a key for any lock. I was extremely pleased with my experience with Irvine Lock & Key. Previously I had unwittingly had one of those fly-by-night "locksmiths" out just to re-key my new condo. Long story short that was an expensive disaster; they had to replace the lock set and it didn't fit my oddly shaped door properly. The deadbolt was so difficult to turn because it rubbed against the plate on the doorjamb that I thought one of these days my key would snap off in it. I called Irvine Lock & Key just before lunchtime and they had a real locksmith to my house that afternoon! He chatted with me about the scam locksmith I had been caught up with and said that they were a real problem, unfortunately, and because they keep changing their business name every time they rack up enough bad reviews or complaints, there's no way to shut them down. Horrible experience. They came out five weeks ago to get codes, and I still don't have keys for two sets of file cabinets. The employees don't talk to each other apparently - no project mgmt skills. Make sure you get the name of the person you work with so you can call and talk directly to that person for an update. Another set of keys they made don't work. No email address to contact them. I have to call when I want updates - they don't provide. I can almost guarantee the owner will respond to this and tell me how on top of it they have been. I called today to complain and he argued with me, and agreed he was arguing with me. If he had just admitted they made a mistake and not been defensive (when he's putting me in a horrible position as an office manager), I would have been good. read more

Did the job and did it well. Needed keys cut that didnt' have normal blanks and they were able to solve the problem.

My boss handed me a broken key and told me to go to Lowes for a new one. Lowes couldn't do it, so I went here instead. No problem. For Less than $3.00, I got two keys. One set to factory and one ground to the broken key. I was told the broken key had at some point been ground down and did not match the factory key so I wasn't supprised that the factory key did not work, but the one made from the broken key worked just fine. I took a business card and it's worth noting that there are other locations. Lugana hills, cerritos, Bellflower and Irvine. This is my new locksmith from now on. read more

This is a REAL, established, long-time business with a real STOREFRONT location in an Irvine shopping center. This is highly unusual for a locksmith, as almost all locksmiths these days seem to have ONLY a phone number and no way to get recourse for shoddy work (and there seem to be many horror stories along this line). I've been to this business maybe seven times in the last ten years - three of those times to have my front door locks rekeyed, and the other times to have key duplicates made that ACTUALLY WORK when I get home. They can dupe odd keys, too, like your mailbox key, and finding someone who can do THAT right the first time is huge. It's very strange that this business is so hard to find via Google. All the Fly-by-Nights come up first in a web search for Irvine Locksmith, even though Irvine Lock & Key appears to be the only one that lists an ACTUAL ADDRESS. Anyway, they get not only my recommendation, but a request to use them and keep them open. If I didn't have their store to walk into, I don't know what my alternative would be.
