My favorite part was stepping inside the old jail. That was a very unique and creepy experience. In general this is a very educative tour. There was so much stuff I didn't know about Lawrenceville before this. I've also been to Brews & Boos Lawrenceville Haunted Pub Crawl which is the same concept, but instead, we'd stop in different restaurants around the area to hear the stories, and we'd receive a complementary alcoholic drink. I've done a lot of ghost tours over the years: Roswell, GA (several times); Saint Augustine, FL;…read moreNew Orleans, LA... I had some high hopes for this one. The theatricality of the tour seriously cut away from any interest the stories may have had for me. In other words, the stories the guide was trying to tell was completely lost behind the character he was portraying. I ended up spending most of the rest of the night trying to find the stories that were only half told or were barely referenced, including: the lynching of Charlie Hale, the Ponce De Leon/Royal Palm Southern railroad crash, the lightning strike deaths at Lawrenceville Female Seminary, etc. Again, any interesting historical bits were lost to the theatricality of the role played by the tour guide, to the point that the stories felt unfinished, a side note to the character being portrayed by the guide. Now, I can understand the need to make your tour stand out from all the others. While everyone else is giving the history and the ghost stories, the Lawrenceville Ghost Tour focuses on giving a show. The stories are there. The history is there. It's just all lost in the over the top showmanship, where the tour guide had built himself in a backstory involving a real train crash that happened in 1926. Had I known about that going in, would I have gone? Probably not, truth be told. Will I come back next year, like I have done for Roswell and will do for Saint Augustine and New Orleans? Probably not, as well. In short, if you're expecting a historical ghost tour, give this one a pass. I would have loved for this to be good, but to me, it was a little too much time spent on character development and too little spent on history.

THE FAMILY REUNION WORKSHOP!…read more My husband I recently attended a family reunion workshop sponsored by the Alpharetta Convention and Visitor's Bureau (ACVB). It was held at the Marriott in Alpharetta and our presenter was Hala Shell. Our next family reunion will be in the Atlanta area in 2019 and we wanted to get some information regarding the planning and organizational process. Although we are not the primary organizers, we will be offering input and support. After attending a recent reunion, I definitely saw some areas that needed more attention. I think that people largely forget about the children attending and making sure that they have their own agenda. I'm sure they don't want to be sitting around listening to a bunch of adults and seniors reminiscing about the past and feeling excluded. These reunions are a great opportunity for kids to learn about their history and family connections. We also wanted to see more visuals that reflected the family tree and its branches with a way for everyone to easily identify their place on the tree. Finally, I thought that the reunion should have been better structured so that people weren't just drawn to familiar faces but would be encouraged, (through the use of games and ice breakers) to get to know new attendees as well. If you are involved in the planning of an upcoming reunion, you may want to consider some of these ideas. This workshop was great for providing information on the specific details (confirming a date, securing housing, addressing finances, deciding on specific vendors etc), that need to be addressed. It also helped to identify 'free" resources and support offered by the ACVB, and pin-pointed primary considerations to be addressed, (location, communication, number of days, advanced notification), as you begin to plan your reunion. Since this workshop was Alpharetta specific, much of the information promoted local resources and activities. However, the reunion planning guide is very well prepared and a great resource for plannning a reunion anywhere. We were pleased that we took the time to attend this event because it was very helpful. We would like to thank the Marriott for being a perfect host site, providing a nice continental breakfast and delicious lunch. We were even able to tour a couple of the hotel rooms in order to see what was available. I understand that they will be offering another workshop in April so if you are interested in attending, give Hala a holla!

Oh what a wonderful surprise and experience it was........So let's just say that I was very stunned to learn that there were so many wineries in the state of Georgia. This is how my journey unfolded on this beautiful day; I will start with Tom Ward the owner....Mr. Wine Connoisseur himselfJ Very knowledgeable and full of wisdom beyond his years. There wasn't a question that I asked or wanted to learn about wines that Tom wasn't able to provide me with an answer for. Tom was friendly, kind, attentive and very accommodating. Once we got on the tour bus, filled with snacks, water, wine and movies I was like a kid on her way to her very first field trip. We made a stop at one of his pickup locations to pick up two additional lovely ladies. We stopped and had a celebratory toast to begin our wine adventure; it was amazing. From there, we drove to the first winery "Wolf Mountain Vineyard". It was cozy, beautiful, with great ambiance. We had a quick bite (very delicious) and of course several rounds of wine tasting. Then we were off again to our 2nd winery "Serenity Cellars". This in itself was an amazing experience. The staff was remarkable; there was a wide selection of wines red and white. I am normally a sweet wine drinker, but this definitely gave me an opportunity to expand my palate and gave me a better appreciation for different wines. Of course, I could not forget the beautiful young lady that serenaded us with her lovely voice. Lastly, our 3rd winery "Kaya Vineyard & Winery". This winery was a little bit more upbeat, much younger crowd, not as quaint as the other wineries but nonetheless still good. There wines were ok but didn't knock me off my feet. Yes, I still drank it.....all of it lol. The view was amazing, one of the most beautiful rainbows I have ever seen. It was just my luck because then the second rainbow came out; first time ever seeing a double rainbow. So I said all this to say, no matter your level of expertise with wines this is the tour for you. There is something for everyone. I bought several bottles of wine and have been enjoying some and put the rest up for another time. I am a light weight so on the way home I slept like a baby while everyone else enjoyed a great documentary on wines. I am actually looking forward to doing this tour again. Maybe in the Spring or the Summer. One of my best tours ever!!!!! I applaud the level of excellence received at ATL Vineyard Express.

When I contacted the outfit for scheduling and requesting an easy hike on a Saturday, Dante (the guide and the person behind the company, I think) emailed back letting me know there would be an easy hike on the following Sunday. We figured that was fine, even though that meant skipping church and doing something that would take several hours on the day before we're all supposed to be back at work. I read these other two reviews and got a little nervous, so I tried to prepare everyone in the group. We brought additional food with us. First, I get really hungry. Second, I'm vegetarian and I figured that wouldn't necessarily be accommodated, so I didn't bother to ask.. Also, I had to not let the spelling and punctuation in the emails bother me. So I got over that. Thursday before the hike, we got an email letting us know we would be doing our hike at Virginia Bryant State Park in Royston, GA and the wine tasting at Boutier Winery, about 12 miles away from the park. He also told us what he was bringing for lunch, and told us to bring our own water. I thought that specificity was helpful. That state park is 90 miles away from Atlanta, so we carpooled and gave ourselves plenty of time. We found the group pretty easily (just drive toward the ranger station and look for a group of people). The guide is really nice and friendly. He had us all introduce ourselves. During the hike, he also walked his way up and down the line of folks, making sure to talk to everyone, and, I think, keeping track of folks so no one was left behind. We stopped twice so people could have water and a snack (that we brought ourselves - that wasn't provided) and so we could take some photos. Our group paced together pretty well, so staying together was easy. We had lunch together at a covered area in the park. He set out the food (wraps, turkey, mustard, carrots, arugula, kale, dates, pomegranates). It was the perfect hiker's lunch, light, not too much. I didn't really need to have brought additional food for the meat-eaters. I did have my own no-meat sandwich. We then drove over in a caravan to the winery. We got the six tastes, which were pretty generous pours. We could have paid for additional tastes or glasses of wine. The wine was pretty decent. Previous encounters with Georgia wines had been with wines made of muscadine, which is super-nasty. This stuff was all right. I would never pay $95 for this, but it was fine for $39. Now that we know about that park and winery, we can do it on our own. I would recommend this for folks who are hesitant about hiking alone or don't know the area.

We were set to arrive early but got dropped off in the wrong spot by or Uber driver. We got help from staff at their own site daycare center and everyone was so friendly and hospitable that a shuttle service was radioed to pick us up and dropped us off in-front of the building where the tour was scheduled -- TOTAL SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY HANDS DOWN! FIRST: We checked in with security upon arrival and received a radio and lanyard. SECOND: We were brought into a room with other guests for an opening movie where we got to hear a bit of back story on the company. Our Tour Host: Evan Hodges was GREAT & Very Informative!!! THIRD: LET THE TOUR BEGAN!!! Saw the Test Kitchen and "the Nest" which is their training center. Got to see Chick-fil-A's History Museum which included old school cars and the Original BAT MOBILE!!! LASTLY: We were guided through Truett's office, saw a Closing Movie and Visited their Gift Shop!
