Every night in October the Lawrenceville Ghost Tours are hosted in downtown Lawrenceville, GA. Ghost Tours depart from the Aurora Theatre and they're about 90 minutes and participants will walk about a mile. During the tour the story guide makes different stops around the city to tell us about bizarre paranormal events that have happened recently in the businesses around the area. My favorite part was stepping inside the old jail. That was a very unique and creepy experience. In general this is a very educative tour. There was so much stuff I didn't know about Lawrenceville before this. I've also been to Brews & Boos Lawrenceville Haunted Pub Crawl which is the same concept, but instead, we'd stop in different restaurants around the area to hear the stories, and we'd receive a complementary alcoholic drink. (about 4 drinks at the end). Prices go from $9 to $15. I've done a lot of ghost tours over the years: Roswell, GA (several times); Saint Augustine, FL; New Orleans, LA... I had some high hopes for this one. The theatricality of the tour seriously cut away from any interest the stories may have had for me. In other words, the stories the guide was trying to tell was completely lost behind the character he was portraying. I ended up spending most of the rest of the night trying to find the stories that were only half told or were barely referenced, including: the lynching of Charlie Hale, the Ponce De Leon/Royal Palm Southern railroad crash, the lightning strike deaths at Lawrenceville Female Seminary, etc. Again, any interesting historical bits were lost to the theatricality of the role played by the tour guide, to the point that the stories felt unfinished, a side note to the character being portrayed by the guide. Now, I can understand the need to make your tour stand out from all the others. While everyone else is giving the history and the ghost stories, the Lawrenceville Ghost Tour focuses on giving a show. The stories are there. The history is there. It's just all lost in the over the top showmanship, where the tour guide had built himself in a backstory involving a real train crash that happened in 1926. Had I known about that going in, would I have gone? Probably not, truth be told. Will I come back next year, like I have done for Roswell and will do for Saint Augustine and New Orleans? Probably not, as well. In short, if you're expecting a historical ghost tour, give this one a pass. I would have loved for this to be good, but to me, it was a little too much time spent on character development and too little spent on history. read more

Background: I've been on dozens of ghost tours around the country - it's a pastime I enjoy - and I'm also a paranormal investigator as a hobby and (reluctant) psychic medium with a real-life profession in software. On this tour, you will learn - in storytelling fashion from engaging theatrical performers clad in period costumes - a bit of history and a few of the supernatural legends of the area. Many buildings with suspected activity or energetic residue of bygone days are passed along the route, as the actor/guide weaves the tales describing their histories. Our character "Josephine" was playing the part of a French dancer with a flair for the dramatic, and her technique stayed perfectly in character throughout the stroll. It was curious that some "hotspots" I personally sensed (like a coffee shop) were left unmentioned, but there are time and distance limits that probably explain why. The old jail is a highlight that must be experienced by any ghost tour afficionado! Notice when you go how one part of the space is behind a locked door and covered windows...why's that? Not sure, but I do know that part of the structure houses a lot of bad energy! At a few other spots, I was able to match my impressions to the tour guide's narrative (e.g., knowing a set of stairs had activity; anticipating the name of a person later revealed) which gave me a sense the tour stories were at least partly based in fact. I can't give five stars because the storytelling motif and theatrics were sometimes distracting, especially the character's "accent" that was hard to hear/understand fully over the street noise. The other aspect that was tough is that I like getting up very close to supposedly active structures, and sometimes we were as far away as across the street. It was hard to pick up or sense things from that distance, and made it less "eerie" for lack of a better word. Downtown Lawrenceville has many excellent dining and beverage choices, so make an evening of it before or after your tour. Well worth the admission price for singles, couples, or families. If I could give this Tour NO stars I would. I'm not even sure how they can call these "ghost" tours. They are more like "History" tours with a bunch of Horrible theatrics in "comedy" form. Comedy and Ghosts should not mix unless it's "Casper" the friendly ghost. These might be good for families with small kids, but if you're looking for a truly good ghost tour, this certainly isn't it! Will never do this one again. Corny with a CAPITAL "C"! And a waste of our time & money. Not to mention it was a birthday gift. read more

Loved this ghost tour. I've done a handful of ghost tours. This is my one of my favorite. Sylvia was a great tour guide and a lot of fun.

Just finished the Ghost Tour with Madame Macabre and it was delightful. She is an amazing storyteller. I have lived in Gwinnett County for 15 years and I never knew the history of some of these familiar places (and one place I didn't even know existed!!) AND I AM A HISTORY BUFF!! Really recommend and look forward to the Cemetery tours this fall!!! read more

I went to this tour with my wife this past weekend. The guide, was a very nice lady and had great charisma. The first part of the tour was nearly ruined by some stupid and very disrespectful young girls that kept constantly kept laughing and talking over the tour guide while everyone else was trying to hear what was being said. The tour guide eventually pulled them aside and asked them to leave if they weren't going to be respectful. They stayed and were quiet initially, but it didn't take long for them to start talking and laughing again. It even got to the point where the guide herself was getting visibly frustrated along with some of the guests. I was very close yelling at them, but I knew doing so would ruin it for everyone. Eventually the brats left, and everyone including me was glad. We were able to walk around the cemetery in which many people from all walks of life were buried there, from slave owners, to slaves themselves. It wasn't horrifying for us, but we all noticed how some areas of the cemetery were noticeably cooler than others. I snapped a few pictures, and tried some EVP's from my phone, and I'm still going through them to see if I picked up anything. However I immediately noticed that all of the still pictures I snapped have some weird haziness over them. I thought it was my phone, but after the tour was over I took some pictures of the parking deck, and the pictures then were crystal clear. I would go back again, hopefully next time, there will be no brats there. I would recommend this tour. Keep in mind however to wear adequate shoes with good traction, the footing in the cemetery is a little rough due to the recessed grave markers and holes. read more
