I have been using Southern Dixie for well over 5 years and they have been amazing! They keep all 3 of our higher milage vehicles on a road in great working condition at a very reasonable price and, yes, they work on our luxury/foreign cars even. I had a repeat issue with my car running hot and they towed us in and then offered to even give us a ride home. I have had everything from routine maintenance to full brake service, alignment with new tires and normal repairs as needed. They go above and beyond to take care of their customer and I appreciate the quality hometown consistency. I am one of those people that fall in love with a vehicle and continue to drive it "until the wheels fall off". I am glad they are helping me to do just that!!! read more

On a Sunday after hours and I'm passing through the area and the low pressure light comes on. My heart sinks but I was happy that there was a 24 hour service nearby. I called SDAR and was told to come on by and let him take a look at it. Needless to say one glance & he was able to tell me the tire was done, however Jeff was my knight in shining armor. He assured me he would do whatever he could to get us back on the road and within a few minutes he did just that. He checked the other tire as a courtesy and needless to say it needed to be replaced as well. My heart is racing because I'm thinking I'm about to pay through the nose for this, however the price was EXTREMELY REASONABLE AND FAIR, the service was FAST and the communication & customer service was EXCELLENT! Do not. And I mean DO NOT, take your vehicle here. I have had work done on my diesel truck here in the past and they were fantastic, but I had a very different experience here this past week. I called Monday morning at 8am and asked if they could look at a problem I was having with my diesel truck. They said they could and to bring it in. I immediately got up, had someone arranged to come pick me up, and drove and dropped my truck off. When I got there I explained the problem that I was having and asked them to also change the oil while I was there. They said that would be fine and they would let me know in just a little while what was wrong with the truck. Fast forward to 230PM, I had not heard from them so I called and asked about the truck. I was told the tech was at lunch and he would return my call. 330PM and a tech called. At this point I was informed they did not have a diesel mechanic and I would have to take my truck elsewhere to be looked at. I was told they really didn't have time to look at it and just didn't know what was wrong. Possibly had an exhaust leak and something was wrong with the turbo cooler. But remember, they didn't have time to look at it. So now I had to scramble to find another ride to go pick my truck back up. I just had a diesel truck worked on here just about a month ago, so I knew they worked on them. No one informed me that they no longer had a diesel mechanic and just sat on my truck all day and were not going to let me know anything about what was happening. When I arrived to pick up my truck, I was given the keys and as soon as I started to drive I could tell the truck was in considerably worse shape than it was before. I had to drive with my hazards on to even get to the next repair shop that actually had a diesel mechanic. I called and spoke to the supposed manager of the shop and he, in so many words, called me a liar and told me that what I was hearing and experiencing in the truck was happening when I dropped it off. Just a word of advice, I would not do any business with these people. They are far from honest and messed up my truck worse than when I dropped it off. I ended up taking it to Johnnys and they were fantastic and my truck will never go anywhere else now. read more

Our truck broke down a few years ago as we were traveling to Orange Beach. We called for a wrecker and asked to be taken to the nearest Ford dealership. As we were in the rollback with the tow driver, we mentioned our truck was no longer under warranty, and the driver informed us they also do vehicle repairs so we decided to go there. He took us to get a rental since it was late in the day, and we dropped our truck off & then picked it up at the end of our vacation. We couldn't believe how reasonable the cost of repair was. What an amazing shop! A family member easing pickle over Christmas break with a screw in his tire on a Sunday morning. No one else would help. The owner left his home and had us on the road in less than an hour. He even tried not charging us. Wow! What great customer service. This prompted me to come back to get my new fixed. A dealer told me the problem was completely different, defective parts, etc. Robbie, Carl, and the rest of the team at Dixie tightened some bolts and had me back on the road in less than an hour. I can't say enough how helpful and overall NICE everyone is here. My family and I (my wife, and 4 children) were driving back from Florida and had a blow out on the interstate near the exit 205. I called two places and got Randy on the phone at Southern Dixie, he was very understanding and came to get us as soon as he got the rig. Randy came and towed our mini van to the shop but dropped us off at a local hotel first. He didn't HAVE to do that, but he did. Told us where to stay local and how to get there etc. He was very courteous and nice to us. They didn't charge a lot for our tow and ordered us a new tire at 930p which they put on the next day. They came and picked my wife up to go back to our vehicle and pay for the tire and tow. The office staff was friendly and nice as could be. I can't say enough how amazing the experience was. In town for a stopover going to the Gulf and upon stopping at the hotel I noticed a wire stuck in my rear tire. I called and the wrecker driver answered. I explained my situation. He said let me make a call and he'd call me right back. He did. They had been closed for over an hour but he said come on over. Jeff Melton(owner) was waiting. I got my motor changed here and when I tell you they broke everything under my hood and did not replace my stuff. They even caused my car to have transmission problems when I didn't have any to begin with. They tried to keep the same motor in my car and didn't think I was gonna realize it saying it was a new motor. I told them i didn't want it. While traveling from Michigan to Florida our transmission failed us in Alabama at 5:30 AM on a Saturday morning. After calling our insurance agency and waiting for a tow truck for over 3 hours - that never showed - we called Southern Dixie Auto-repair. They we very quick to respond. They towed us to their shop and evacuated our vehicle. It was determined that we needed a new transmission. Robbie was gracious enough to help us find transportation to a car rental company to rent a vehicle. We continued on our vacation while they worked hard at fixing our vehicle. They were able to fix our vehicle in a short amount of time and even found a warranty that we would be able to use in Michigan. I would highly recommend them to anyone! read more

Our transmission gave out on the way home from the beach, still had over 300 miles to go. The guys here were exceptionally helpful and went the extra mile to get us to the best option so we could make it back home. We were on our way back from the beach when we started having car problems. Saw the good reviews and decided to give this place a shot. Our car completely died when we pulled in and wouldn't crank back up. All of the lights were off and we thought we were out of luck. But a truck was leaving and pulled over. Robbie opened up the shop just for us and told the owner our story. He came in and fixed our car. In an hour we were back on the road. Not to mention, we had a our newborn and 1 yr old with us. I drove down to the Florida panhandle in October (2017) through Alabama. On my way home my tire decided to start to go flat. It was a Sunday, I am from the Midwest and was alone. I know NO ONE in Alabama. I was pretty worried because I was not in a big metropolitan area. I found a Walmart and they did not carry the tire I needed but they did know the owner of this shop. They called him (Southern Dixie is closed on Sunday by the way) and he came in on his day off and opened the place up to get this traveler back on the road. One of the friendliest people I have ever met. Southern hospitality at its best and he did not over charge me when he certainly could have. As a woman I have never made it a priority to know the price of tires. At any rate I told him I would repay him with a review....then put the business card up, and got busy during the holidays and forgot....but I did remember that he told me to have my other tires checked when I got home as I probably needed a full set. Today, I made arrangements to do just that....and found his card exactly where I left it. To the owner of Southern Dixie....I don't know if you remember the lady traveling from Florida back to the St. Louis area...that you helped on a Sunday in late October 2017!! ??? But I remember what you did for me and while this is somewhat late.... its important I tell people how wonderful that business is, and how good you were to a woman traveling alone. While my husband and I were traveling on vacation, we had a blow out. Unfortunately it was later at night and we could not find any places open except Southern Dixie Auto Repair. When we called the number to see if they were open, a man by the name of Jeff answered. He was not even at the shop But he told us to go to the shop and he would meet us there. He took time out of his night to come replace our tire for us. Not only that but he did it in a very timely manner AND AT A GREAT PRICE!!! Our car broke down on the interstate on a Saturday night while passing thru to go visit our grandkids. We broke down in an isolated area that had little power due to the recent hurricane. Jeff answered our call and told us that the only thing he could do is send a tow truck to bring us to his shop, find us a motel room and let us use his van, and then have one of his mechanics skip going to church and come in on Sunday morning. They were even able to obtain some parts on Sunday morning and had us back on the road by Noon. We have never experienced such great service and true southern hospitality. I was just outside of Birmingham Alabama when my car began to give me engine trouble. I made it to Clanton Alabama where it completely broke down and refused to start. I called Southern Dixie and the had a tow truck to my side within 30 minutes. It was Saturday night at 7pm. The shop was to be closed on Sunday. These knowledgeable kind folks opened up the business to repair my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a broken fuel pump. I never had such great customer service. The price for tow and repair where reasonable. What a great shop 5 stars!! The professionalism that was displayed was outstanding. I wish there were more places like this. I would drive out of my way to have this shop work on my cars. I had a mystery stall going on and the SUV died on the interstate. Well...I knew I was at someone's mercy. The town driver recommended this shop. On a Saturday morning, these guys worked for hours troubleshooting and trying to find what was wrong. They went through the fuse panel, vacuum lines, etc. I saw the parts coming out and knew that was legit. I tapped out at noon with the owner running to get a fuel pump. That is a project with a lot of markup as it requires dropping the fuel tank. I left to make the call to see if my kidney was worth anything. On Monday am, they called me and I went to get the truck. Jeff, the owner, said it was really bugging him that there was something else wrong beside the pump and he was personally involved in tracking down an electric ground issue, and they didn't have to change the fuel pump. Here's what I think really happened-- I saw him leave to go get the part and the truck was on the lift to drop the tank. I think they changed the pump and the problem persisted, so they kept tracking it down until they figured it out. But I was only charged for the diagnosis. I'm talking a couple hundred bucks. They could have so easily charged me for the work and parts performed on the pump and traced the real problem. I'd have never, ever known. They acted in integrity. I am so impressed. I met everyone in the shop. Owner, wife, admin, front counter, mechanics- they were all so very friendly and authentic. This shop actually made breaking down fun again. I could not more enthusiastically recommend a business of any kind than this group of people at Dixie. read more

You couldn't find nicer people!!very honest too !! We didn't realize they are closed on Sundays. Really only open for towing calls! His wife was there waiting for him. We were driving home to WI and our check engine light came on. This was the closest shop to us so we stopped. It was a Saturday and they were closed but the guy running the shop said he would do what he could to help us out. He ran a diagnosis and talked us through some possible issues. He was extremely friendly and helpful. We wish we lived closer because this would be our new shop of choice. Took us to the local diesel repair shop, recommended a motel until repair could be done on Monday. He also loaned us a vehicle from his lot to use until we could get our truck back. Just want to brag about this company a little bit. My daughter was on her way home from just completing her internship at St. Vincent hospital in B'ham, Al when all of a sudden a large object flew out of the back of a truck she was behind. Her natural reflexes took over and to avoid being hit by this object she swerved and skidded out of control into a ditch. As you can imagine, she was traumatize !! Fortunately, she was OK and the car sustained minimal damage. Jeff (owner) of Southern Dixie Auto was contacted to come tow her in to check out the damage. I was skeptical of any towing company because of bad dealings in the past. I'm writing this review because I want to spread the message how professional and caring these people are at Southern Dixie. I spoke with Jeff and he reassured me that they treat all their customers like family. I can assure you they really do! My daughter was so relieved, and so was I. Just before she left to get back on the road they offered her bottles of water and a roll of paper towel. The service was fantastic.
