Some a**hole slashed all 4 of my truck tires, so I needed fast and cheap replacements as a stop-gap measure. I went in here and every staff member I dealt with (there were a few, front desk and mechanic etc) and all of them were courteous, polite, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. They found me 4 suitable replacements for an extremely good price. They were dead honest about the level of wear being high, and cautioned me accordingly. These tires were absolutely in road-worthy condition, just worn, and I appreciated that they were so conscientious about safety and so on. On top of all that, after I delivered all 4 slashed tires still on the rims, they had them mounted and filled for $20 each and it was done in 40 minutes. I was 'screwed', literally, as a small bastard that someone decided to leave out was practically in my tire, and keeping it from slowly releasing the precious air and deflate my chances of getting anywhere. A nice round shiny one, right in the grooves that I saw, and I had to do something about it. I don't really like waiting around, and on this week, most places on Marine Drive seemed to be filled with people removing their wheels for the Spring stretch, or just busy as they were fixing flats caused by evil screws and nails! I haven't come here in years, and I was running desperate to fix this 'screwed' tire, and rolled my ride here on a Friday. Pouring rain and seeing my tire getting to the point of flat again, enough was enough, and not to make the situation any worse, I decided to bring the car here and get this hindrance out of my life! If you have watched any violent movie, there probably is a scene where someone is stabbed with a knife, and what you do... or do not do is remove this protruding, stabbing object... it would just make it worse... that was what my tire was.... one that was slowly dying, yet keeping it alive was this screw. I remember parking my car near a wall of tires and walking into their office, waiting around for someone to help me, as I saw all the people here working on something in the service bays, then eventually after playing with my phone a few minutes a young man asked how he could help. I asked how long it would take, and he said, we can probably get your tire patched up right now.... now that is service! I was wondering where the older Chinese guy was, as I have never seen this young guy... and go figure, it is his son, a very different approach, at the same time they got the job done right. I was presented two options to my situation, we could do a cheap patch up from outside for $20, or we can do the inside patch up for $35... I went for the better way to do things. So as the other guys were working on my tire, I ended up chatting it up to see how business was, and I learned that they do wheel alignments for $70... that is a good price, I may have to come back real soon for this. I now don't have to worry about a screw in my tire.. until the next time of some careless or wreckless person putting sharp objects on roads... grrrr. read more

They have consistently given me the best advice & price according to my needs at a particular time. All the staff here go out of their way to help you get back on the road with safe high quality tires -USED OR NEW!! I have bought both from them and never had an issue with either. My tire was knifed last Saturday (Oct 10/15) -it had less that 5,000 km on it. Today they found me a comparable used one, matching both the brand & the tread pattern -$28.00 & $20.00 labour. Before Southern Enterprises was recommended to me I bought from a local mechanic on Powell St. -soaked me premium price for inferior product AND he was supposedly repairing my car (did more damage than repair)!! ...there are some shifty people out there & it's great to have Southern at HASTINGS & COMMERCIAL DRIVE KNOWING they'll provide you with the best for what you can afford and won't gouge you just because they may think you have a couple of bucks. xoxo :) read more

HIGHLY recommend Southern as THE PLACE to go if you've got a tight budget and/or are nervous about dealing with car issues. I've never had as pleasant or as low pressure -in a good way, mind the pun- an experience dealing with a car issue as I had at Southern Enterprises. The salesperson, who I talked to on the phone and then also in the shop, was incredible! He took a close look at my car with me, asking me to explain what I wanted, and then ran through every possible option for me, volunteering all the information I could want, super honestly, about price ranges for new and used tires, condition and quality of available used tires, etc.. He then left it completely up to me to decide what I wanted to do, with no attempts to sway my decision or upsell me, despite my going in with three bad tires and deciding to only replace one for the time being due to my tight budget! The surly-looking mechanic who did the work even gave me an affirming and friendly smile-nod, which made me feel a lot more comfortable as an obvious flaming faggot at an auto repair shop. All in all: reliable, quick, friendly service; knowledgeable, honest, attentive staff who don't pressure you or try to upsell you AT ALL; and a wide range of new and used tires to fit any budget. I've used this tire shop for work purposes and was recommended by someone in the industry that I've worked for to come here. Dismount and Mount charge baffled me even though it was a small charge. I had a tire patch done as a temporary solution when someone slashed my tires when I parked at Patterson. It came to a very reasonable $30. read more

I've used this tire shop a few times over the years, typically for tire patches or used tires. Like similar reviews online, I've had no issue with the quality of the work, but the service has typically been spartan. I'm caucasian, and the owners are Asian. I'm willing to typically chalk up such lacking service to the realities of ethnic and language differences and suspicions. However, today they went beyond the call of duty. I brought my vehicle in with the spare tire on. I purchased two used tires - comparable in price to other shops where I got quotes. When I went to pick up my vehicle, the male owner showed me that my spare tire was actually a smaller size than the four I had in use. He switched the spare tire for a used one that matched my other four - at no charge! And then he took the time to fiddle with getting the spare back in its compartment as well as putting away the jack and its accessories. When I went to pay, the female owner was friendlier and chattier than usual. I have no hesitation in recommending this shop. read more
