I had my bride tribes hair and make up done here the day of my wedding. I must say this was a very disappointing experience and I DO NOT recommend them for your wedding day needs. To start they provided us with one hair stylist and one make up artist when five of us needed hair and makeup services. This absorbed our entire morning (seriously the entire morning we were at the salon from 8-12)! The makeup artist Victoria was great, all our make up photographed very well and the artist was passionate about her job. She did not do anything Pinterest worthy, but it was a great base for us to add onto. However, our hair stylist Maddie barely styled anyone's hair. She told my maid of honor that the fish tail braid she wanted was "gaudy and over the top". My best friend had been growing her hair out for two years so she could pull it off such a beautiful braid and was just shot down in a incredibly rude and unprofessional way. The stylist then did an overly loose basic French braid with super loose curls that fell out before we even left the salon. Thinking back on it, I suspect she probably didn't have the skill to do a fishtail braid that's why she denied her request... When it came to my hair (the bride) she admitted to not really looking at my Pinterest, even tho I sent it earlier in the week. I wanted big Hollywood red carpet waves and one of my sides pinned back. I do my hair like this all the time, it's my "go to", but it was my special day so I wanted it done professionally. She DID NOT deliver. She did not put enough products like hairspray or styling spray in. My hair was barely holding a curl. I had to ask her to put more tighter curls in and not loosen them Bc her curls were waaayy too loose already and falling out. Even with this request they were all overly loose. I explained how I needed my style to last for several hours and all I could think at this time is "I need to leave so I can fix my hair before pics". My pics started at 12 and this was probably 11ish so I was feeling very behind schedule and not relaxed. The same stylist was not following my mother in laws request and then just offered to let her do her own hair. My mother in law did end up doing her own hair and the salon had the audacity to still charge for it. I sent the owner Valerie an email airing my grievances about my experience and all she said was "thank you for the feedback." I then had to ask her if she was going to refund me for the service not performed. She made it clear in her follow up email, my issue was beneath her and provided me with a refund for the service not performed and a "take care". I cannot get over how disappointed I am and how terrible her customer service skills are. She could care less that we were unhappy and my hair looked like crap on my big day. I threw a curl in on the front in the few minutes I had to get dressed. Below is what a $120 hair style by Southern Exposure will look like on your wedding day. These pictures were taken less than an hour after leaving the salon. Btw they make you pay an 18% automatic gratuity too which is completely backwards Bc this hair stylist didn't even have to work for it which showed through this entire experience. In response to the owner... 1.) No one was forced to be there! We were all looking forward to some salon time and looking our best. How were we supposed to know our hair stylist wouldn't be able to do fishtail braids or style short hair? Maybe you could have said something after I sent you our inspiration photos? 2.) Tasks were delegated...? Not sure what that has to do with anything in this review. I know for a fact I'm not the only bride that feels stressed and anxious on such an important day. It would have been nice to have more time to get ready. My pics were at one and wedding at two and we didn't leave til noon. I genuinely thought the "be ready by noon" meant I would actually be able to be ready by noon-not leaving the salon at noon. So, sure that's my bad... 3.) Trials aren't always possible for destination weddings like mine or if you have a demanding job-like a nurse during a pandemic...but I do highly recommend you find a way or else you will potentially waste a lot of money and be let down like I was. 4.) I can't speak for my ladies, but I had no problem speaking up and voicing my wants and still didn't get the end result I was looking for....and when my mother in law spoke up your stylist's solution was to just let her do it herself. My wedding was awesome, but it was pretty disappointing to get my pictures and see my hair...I'm pretty sure it looked better when I woke up that morning. Also, I'm pretty sure in her response post she called me a terrorist? Like really? I guess I'm not allowed to an opinion of her business unless it is positive? No violence or intimidation has happened here or through our email exchanges. I'm just sharing my experience with those willing to read. read more

6 months ago my Mom came to town for a visit and I took her to get her hair cut from this salon. She's 76 and has short hair. She told the stylist what she wanted. Her cut ended up being not at all what she wanted. I could see her disappointment in her eyes while in the hair dressers chair. The hair dresser was obviously taking a long time to cut my Mom's hair due to inexperience I suspect. I paid and left a generous tip. When we got home, my mum was so upset at her awful cut, she was tearing. I called the salon to see what they could do as my Mum was very very unhappy with her cut. The guy that answered the phone said they will comp or credit the $70ish (it may have been even more) and I said cool and gave my name and he put it on a card, I was assuming with the credit too. I go there today to have a service as I knew I had a credit. They would not honor it, saying they never said they would give a credit? I was pretty taken back and very disappointed in this small business. My husband and I have 5 small businesses in the County. We honor our customers, especially local. read more

Best place to get your hair done in summit. Maddie is exceptional. I dont let anyone else touch my hair. Prices are reasonable and the staff is full of friendly and welcoming people. As a curly/wavy girl getting a hair cut can be a nail biting experience but having southern exposure around makes it less so. What a great find! After working with the same stylist for a long time, moving to the mountains meant that I'd have to find someone new. That place turned out to be Southern Exposure. Even from the outside, Southern Exposure has a groovy vibe that makes you want to go inside. When you do, You'll find a place that's a little crowded, but comfortable and inviting. Everything is clean and organized, and a little quirky. Definitely a mountain feel. My stylist's name is Maddie, and we got along very well. She is Aveda trained, and confident in her technique. Everyone made me feel a part of the gang, including me in their jokes and chatting as they worked. To summarize, my experience at Southern Exposure was excellent. Unless something unusual happens, Maddy will be my new local stylist. Why? Because Maddie ROCKS!!! Brandi's terrific. I needed a haircut and style and hadn't found anyone in Summit County that I was happy with, so I had a very overgrown, shaggy bob that looked quite dreadful. I showed Brandi a photo of how my hair used to look, and she cut it exactly like I wanted. EXACTLY. She was also fun and engaging to chat with during the cut and style. My experience with this salon was not favorable. I walked in and requested a tan. I could clearly see both tanning bed rooms were empty. The receptionist said they did not have an opening until 80 minutes later. Then she said they were attempting to close very early and I could not get a later appointment. I made an appointment for the following day. After I paid $14 for a 10 minute tan, I discovered two bulbs were out on their more intense bed. I left feeling ripped off and will not return. read more

Of the many stylists I've seen at multiple salons in Colorado, Jennifer at Southern Exposure is the only one who has taken her time with my admittedly difficult hair and really understood it. I couldn't be happier with the results--I finally got exactly the cut and color that I wanted. She seems to truly love her work, and it comes through beautifully. She and her coworkers were refreshingly friendly and genuine. I enjoyed my first trip there for a haircut so I decided to go back to get an ombre. They don't do hair dye (at least ombre's) well AT ALL. I showed pictures and made it very clear that I wanted it to start at the middle of my hair, yet she did a balayage (not an ombre) and started at the top of my head, it also turned out orange/gold colored. Maybe it was because my hair was so dark that she couldn't get the correct shade I wanted but she should have said something rather than just doing it. Either way, that wasn't when I decided to leave a bad review. I decided to leave a bad review when I emailed the owner and she pawned me off onto one of her stylists who called me once, I called her back and left a voicemail, and she NEVER contacted me again. Therefore I got NOTHING RESOLVED. I had to go get my hair fixed somewhere else and cut the losses. Not the mention that I started communicating with one of their receptionists (who I later found to be a drug addict and more) who told me that they all talked badly about me after I called to say I didn't get what I wanted. She also said that the woman that did my color wasn't good at dying hair! Who is a stylist that can't do color!? This woman was a huge liar too, so she may have not told me the truth but either way that wasn't refreshing to hear. They tried to blame me for my hair looking awful. I brought in pictures, it was NOT a miscommunication like they tried to say. If they screw your hair up, you won't get your money back, or a fix for that matter. I'm still very displeased and that is why I am writing a review 2 months later on this business. This was just a disaster and the fact that I waited around for a call back and never got one just shows that they are like most business out here, they are unorganized.
