I've tried this donut shop numerous times over the years and they have gotten worse every time I go there. This time was just terrible. Compared to the other Southern Maid donuts these are smaller. So small they can fit more quantity in the box. The donuts were only glazed on the tops and not the sides as you can see in the pictures. These were not a sweet treat for a Sunday morning. read more

Typically this location has decent kolaches and donuts! Not certain what is going on, but the worst, dry & completely horrible kolache I have ever had! And my 1/2 dozen donuts were just tossed in a paper bag. Shabby service and a bit of a cold unfriendly feel. Sad at best!! read more

Okay, let me preface this by saying this review is based on an experience back in early March and I found nothing particularly wrong with the donuts, however there is something seriously wrong with the staffing. The front counter is operated by one of the most rude girls I've ever had the misfortune of being served by. I was on my way to an appointment to a salon in the shopping center and I decided to get a snack before I went in. When I got in the cashier was incredibly rude and hostile and spoke with a disrespectful tone. What's worse is she couldn't even get my order right. 3 donuts and a coffee isn't hard to remember and I sure as hell didn't stutter or mumble. She got an attitude with me and I just said "forget it" and let her know how rude she was being. I got to my appointment and started talking to another patron and told her about my encounter with the Southern Maid cashier. She told me a friend of hers had a bad experience there around Christmas. From what I remember her telling me, her friend walked up to the shop and saw two girls (likely workers) walking out and asked if they were closed. The two verbally lashed out and threatened to fight her; even called her the N word. Honestly, I would never have thought a place like Southern Maid could keep such employees. So I would suggest keeping your distance from this place until they hire some decent workers for their cash registers. read more

This Southern Maid, formerly located in the Bayou Walk Shopping Center has been forced to re-locate down the street here to Pierremont Plaza due to ground swell issues at the former long-time location. Southern Maid in this new location, is now next door neighbors with The Ham'let, as well as neighbors within close proximity: Roly Poly sandwich and wraps, Texadelphia sandwiches, Rotolo's Pizzeria, and Shogun of Japan-Steakhouse and Sushi. Just for frame of reference. It's on East 70th Street, and I actually like this new location much better, than the former. There is now ample parking near this store and it is much easier to get in and out of it in every sense of the word and way, from parking, to just driving to and fro, to getting in and out of the the shopping center, it's just an all around better experience. And the most important thing is that the donuts are still the same-AWESOME!! A dozen, hot, steaming glazed will run you $6.46 with tax included and everything! LOVE IT!!!! They still accept debit/credit cards also. read more

The best donuts I've ever had. My husband is from Shreveport and always talks about them so we had to try some this past weekend while in town. We first tried the ones from the original SM on Hearn and were disappointed bc they were dry and hard. My husband said that's not how they're supposed to taste based on his memories so we tried this location the following day. What a difference! Theirs were melt in your mouth delicious!!! OMG!! I don't normally eat donuts but I had three! So soft and buttery. Can't say enough how great it was. Also tried their boudain pastry and those were also Superb. Spicy and very flaky. They run out of those quick so come early. This will be one of my first stops next time I'm in town! read more

This really is, "The South's Finest Since 1941". Listen to me, I am telling you nothing else matters other than this right here - just wake up early in the morning, and go get a batch of regular hot fresh glazed donuts, some kolaches, boudin, and whatever else you may like. I promise you, you won't be disappointed. This is the best doughnut place on planet earth. I don't even care, it just is. All the locations are great. I am just telling it how it is. I'm not even really a sweets type of guy. Never have been (cept banana pudding) but these glazed doughnuts are like eating clouds, okay? Did you know they tried to open up a Krispy Kreme next door and they had to shut it down!? No one can compete with the hometown favorite - in my opinion - the world's best doughnuts!
