Ahhh finally so happy to report back that the cupcakes & macarons were definitely worth the stop. Super sweet service. I wish I had discovered this gem sooner!! We moved here in 2019. Two of us can't eat gluten in my so we always get the same bundt cake every year for our birthdays. I get it for Mother's Day as well. A coworker bought me one of these gluten free cupcakes last year for our Christmas potluck at work so I wasn't left out. That was end game for the Bundt cake place! Lesson #21: appearances can be deceiving. Buttercups is in an upscale area, the shops of Bellevue. Do some shopping, and grab some cupcakes for a snack! The appearance and prettiness of the cupcakes definitely fit the upscale feel of the neighborhood. Each cupcake looks so perfect and delicate, and there is a star-like swirl in the outer edge of the frosting of each cuppie. Each one is $3, and there were over a dozen flavor choices when we stopped in. Don't worry: you will definitely find flavors that appeal to you! We left with a box of key lime, strawberry, wedding cake, and peanut butter. I had high hopes for these babies, but the frosting was way. too. sugary. on every cupcake. The cake in each also tasted like there was some sort of starch, gel, or stabilizer in the batter, which gave me a weird coating in the mouth. Skip the strawberry and key lime in particular, as they tasted a bit artificial. I'm not sure why I chose the key lime either; it was bright green and reminiscent of lime jello or Ecto cooler, and it definitely had some kind of diced up jellies in there. The peanut butter was okay, but the pb frosting tasted like there was starch added too. Maybe the cake balls or whoopie pies on the menu deliver more on the quality front. read more

I don't even know where to begin. I saw this cupcake place on Instagram, and I was so excited to get a custom cupcake for my birthday photoshoot. So I went into the store, the customer service was AMAZING ! So one of the cashiers took my order for my custom cupcake, and she went over it with me many times so that we were both on the same page. Mind you I ordered the cupcake a week prior. When it was time to pickup my cupcake, I was very upset. It WAS NOTHING I WANTED AT ALL! I paid 20$ for this cupcake & it was NOTHING I wanted except for my name . So me & the same cashier both looked at the paper . She immediately apologized and told me her self . " I don't think they read the paper, they must have thought you wanted something else" So mind you my photoshoot is the next day. I spent 500$ already for it. Now I have to worry about a 20$ cupcake. So at this point I'm over it. The cashier agreed to do it over & I had no other choice. But I wanted to speak to the owner at this point. So they owner gave me a call, she didn't even apologize. She told me EXACTLY " you have two options either we give you a full refund or we redo it and give you 10$ back" I was like okay I guess the 2nd option, cause this is so last minute. So in order to get my 10$ she wanted my credit card # over the phone, because her baker doesn't know how to give 10$ . At this point I'm just upset. I told her I'm not giving her my credit card over the phone. SO SHE LITERALLY TELLS ME " Ok this is what were going to do , I'm giving you all your money back. & I advise you to not come back to Buttercup Cupcakes." I asked her what her name was and she tells me " my name is owner, thats all you need to know" then she hangs up. So after that I called the cashier and told her I still want my cupcake because I have no choice. So I picked it up the day of my photoshoot and it was the only reason I'm giving two stars . "Why do you build me up buttercup...." You certainly can't help but hum the lyrics to this song upon walking into this little darling bakery located in the Shoppes at Bellemead. Buttercups Cupcakes is a small bakery with modern yet simple flair, located in an upscale shopping center. Yes, you can go shopping for fancy clothes and take a break to eat your fancy cupcakes later. I first learned of Buttercups after watching the Food Network's Cupcake Wars. I had no idea such cupcake deliciousness existed in north Louisiana. I only really sought out cupcake bakeries when I visit Dallas or Houston. Chain restaurants and fried seafood/chicken are the norm in these parts and this was a more than welcomed discovery. If you are a fan of sweets, then Buttercups is the place for you to get your sweet dessert fix! I've visited here on several occasions and have tried a few different cupcakes, French macarons, and cake balls. I love it that the goodies here are baked daily from fresh ingredients. My favorite cupcake was the red velvet, which was perfectly moist and delicious, with the right balance of rich chocolate-vanilla flavor, and topped with fluffy cream cheese frosting. I do wish that they would offer mini-sized cupcakes in the future so everyone could sample more of the flavors available. The French macarons were average overall compared to others I've tried in the past and were a bit too sweet for my tastebuds. The macaron breakdown is as follows: prominent flavors, ratio of cookie:filling was about 2:1, smooth cookie surface and texture, filling was light and smooth but too sweet, and the outer cookie crust was slightly hard and crumbled into the filling once bitten. The cake pops/balls were a good individual size if you wanted to get a little sweet fix on-the-go before continuing on with your shopping adventures for the day. Cake pops/balls were consistently moist and delivered a burst of flavors with each bite. For sweet addicts like myself, I would easily give in to the temptation and buy a dozen cupcakes (please don't judge me and my major sweet tooth). Also, for those on gluten-free diets, all of the French macarons and some of the cupcakes are gluten-free. A friend and I were overwhelmed staring and drooling over all the beautiful baked goodies and needed some extra time to figure out what we wanted to purchase. The staff here were really patient and knowledgeable about their baked goodies. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you have any food allergy/gluten-free concerns. Reward yourself in this new year with some decadently delicious sweets from Buttercups Cupcakes. Instant gratification and dessert nirvana will have you living the sweet, happy life. (Slightly dry, lacking the "unique" taste factor) Flavor selection was good, but nothing exciting - the girls at the counter weren't particularly knowledgable about the flavors / ingredients. She continuously gave us the wrong information and was finally corrected by a girl who came out from the back. She may have been new, but I would have preferred to have her ask someone else for help instead of giving us the wrong information . I stopped in for the gluten free cupcakes. The day I came in to the shop, I was greeted by friendly, smiling young women. They had lots of cupcakes and macaroons that looked delicious, but they only had two gluten free options available: maple-bacon, and pb&j. I got a maple bacon and ate it immediately. The lady behind the counter offered me a fork, which came in handy. The cupcake was good. Real good. The cupcake itself was moist and spongy, and flecked with bits of salty bacon. The cream cheese frosting was tangy and sweet, and provided a nice contrast to the bacon sprinkled on top and throughout the cupcake. The ladies who worked there told me that they can make any flavor gluten free if you order ahead, and order at least a dozen. Each day, they only keep one or two gluten free options fresh in the cases. I can't speak to the rest of the cupcakes, but the gf maple bacon ones were great. (I bought four to take home.) I'll definitely stop in again the next time I'm in Shreveport. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for gf sweeties. I'm not sure about the kitchen situation as far as gluten cross- contamination, but l've eaten two of the cupcakes today and suffered no adverse reactions. read more

I was in town for a short visit and only had one shot with Buttercups Cupcakes. Like, literally. I stopped in for about 10 minutes and picked out the first thing that looked good to me and my go-to flavor lately: peanut butter. It wasn't bad. I'm not a fan of the cupcakes here, but as that is not my purpose in this review, I will just leave it at that. This review is based on my experience with their macarons. I love macarons. And this really is the only place in the area I know of that sells them. I had high hopes. I bought three flavors. The first, Pumpkin Spice was tasty, if not a little overfilled on the icing. But it was flavorful, and fun. The second, Toasted Coconut, was yummy, but I felt lacking on any discernible coconut flavor. And the third, Almond. I love almond. It's my one true passion. So I was most excited to dive into this adorable little purple treat. When I took my first bite, my heart sunk. It was stale. It was chewy. It was sadness. My disappointment deepened with every chew (which was a lot of chews.) I couldn't believe that they would sell old macaroons on the front counter, at full price. UPDATE: I have since returned, and the last two times I've purchased macarons, they have been really good! I'm still not the biggest fan of the cupcakes, it's something about the density of them I don't really enjoy, but I'm happy to say I'm not as bitter about the business as I was before. read more
