The people that work here are always nice. Good donuts for a decent price. I highly recommend.

A quick look at Yelp showed Strawn's Eat Shop listed at number one in diners locally. The inside is a mix of old timey and funky with lots of creative murals painted on the walls. We quickly received our drinks and ordered. Our waitress was outstanding but I didn't get her name. Our food was soon there and we dug in. My chicken fried steak was good but the mashed potatoes and cornbread were the stars. I'm not a big fan of salad or green beans but they were pretty good for vegetation. My wife enjoyed her catfish basket. She prefers cornmeal on catfish over flour breading and was pleased with the crispy cornmeal and the generous portion. Now for the main event. Pie! Strawn's is known for their strawberry pie and for good reason. It was the best strawberry pie that I have ever eaten. The whipped cream topping was transcendent and paired perfectly with the strawberries. My photo does not do this pie justice. My wife went with coconut pie and while it was very good the strawberry was the winner. Looking forward to returning to Straw's Eat Shop in the future.

Normally the service is fast and accurate. The eggs and meat were over cooked and the potatoes were well undercooked. Normally the meal is better. Couldn't send it back because the server never returned to the table. I won't return any time soon.

At first, it looked like we were going into a Jack in the Box and we were a little apprehensive. Boy, we we mistaken. Oh, my goodness. The food was excellent. The service was outstanding. Our waitress took our food orders, turned them in, got our drinks and was then quickly serving our food. Everything that came out looked wonderful and the portions were huge. My husband and I split a plate. He got the pork tenderloin with turnip greens, mashed potatoes and mac n cheese (for me). I ate the mac and cheese and the cornbread and both were delicious. The pork tenderloin was good and tender and the gravy was excellent. I did think the mashed potatoes tasted a little off, but my husband thought they were good. Our friends had salad and it came out looking fresh and crisp. The broccoli casserole looked great too, but I didn't taste it. Everyone at the table talked about how good the food was. We would have gone back again, if we were still in town. They were very accommodating and I can't say enough good about our server. She was excellent.

The meatloaf was hard and tasted like it was just thawed out and the red sauce they use on it was nasty. The pork is good. Rice is good. The yams are very good. The problem that this restaurant doesn't seem to have any interest in fixing is their hours of operation and days they're opened. Regardless of what Yelp shows and even their own website shows, they are NOT opened 7 days a week from 6am to 8:30pm. Why won't they fix this so people can actually see the correct hours and days of operation? I have no idea. I mentioned it here in my last review that was deleted for some reason. I've asked people at the restaurant itself to please correct the info. Yet the info remains incorrect. They are NOT opened until 8:30 every day. They close at 3pm. They are NOT opened 7 days a week. You'll need to call before you go to see if they're opened. We went on a Saturday at noon and they were closed. I honestly don't know why they don't seem to have any interest in fixing this basic business information.

I ordered it via doordash, although i think anything ordered from there suffers from the delay you sometimes get. Not so here! Wow, this place is doing everything right-- the biscuits are each a MEAL. I had already set out the salt shaker and pepper grinder for the gravy, but not necessary! Seasoning in the gravy is spot on, the sausage is sweet and salty and perfect. Biscuits are fluffy, ha-yuge and crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. This just became our regular Sunday brunch. Sorry, Torchy's! Thank you!

The thought of a large fluffy homemade biscuit with gravy or homemade jelly sounded so yummy. I was driving so didn't have time to review the menu, reviews or photos on Yelp that I usually do. It's really hard to disappoint at a southern breakfast spot. It is a very small very, quaint place which seemed perfect for just us. Like maybe 4 tables total small. Again, still perfect for just us two. Like having biscuits in your grandma's kitchen, literally. They have a ton of Louisiana items and foods for sale. Again, something I love!! They even had beeswax candles made locally. However, very few things, like one of the 4 items I looked at had a price. I should not have to go ask the price of each item. The menu was lacking and difficult to understand. After starring at it and not really seeing a perfect fit, just went to the counter and told her I wanted the biscuits and gravy, hash brown and bacon. There weren't meals on the menu. I love biscuits, I thought, as much as anyone else from Louisiana but that isn't breakfast. I need some eggs and meat for sure, grits and hash browns are expected on a southern breakfast menu. They have no eggs and no grits, just biscuits, hash brown, sausage and bacon. The biscuits were super tall, super dense and hard crust all the way around. So tall that the sausage biscuit is one that you can't get your mouth around and hard. My mom disassembled it to eat it and had to cut it with a knife. I had in my mind thick, fluffy, piping hot biscuits right out of the oven. These were dense, hard and reheated biscuits. I'm positive because some parts were hot hot and others cool to the touch. The hash brown looked like the one from McDonald's but maybe cooked in the oven instead and reheated. Definitely not worth the cost or calories. The bacon was delicious and crispy. The sausage gravy had an unusual taste. I couldn't tell if it was a different seasoning than I am use to or just cheap sausage that had an unusual flavor. I wish I would have taken more photos. I won't be back and highly recommend First Watch, Another Broken Egg or Strawns instead.

But every time I've eaten here, I was unimpressed with both the service and the food. In my opinion, the quality of the food is just "meh". Its about on par with Applebee's or Chili's or something similar. Its "okay" food, but definitely nothing to write home about. For the prices they charge, the food should be MUCH better in my opinion. The service is just "meh" as well. The servers are polite, but slow and somewhat inattentive. Each time we needed a refill or something, we had to wave our arms to get his attention because he was playing or texting on his phone in the corner. The female waitress we had the second time was a little better, but I she seemed neq and inexperienced. She was pretty slow, and "forgot" one of our drinks when she brought the drinks to the table. In my opinion, the service AND food should be absolutely impeccable for the prices this place charges. If they weren't so close to our house, I doubt that we would EVER go back.
