As someone that works early morning, there are some days (and it's not often) where I would crave a donut or a couple donut holes so this place is on my way to work. The last 3-4 times I've gone they never have it ready and it honestly disappoints me bc I feel like I'm not the only person that asks that early in the morning as well. The first time I went they didn't have any fresh glazed donuts there I was like "oh they must be busy," but the consistency of me going in at the same time and there are still no donuts ready, it's such a disappointment . Thank you Southern Maid Donuts for being open on Christmas morning. I was able to grab a dozen or so donuts to add to our Christmas brunch. Thankfully, they still had a good assortment of donuts. I also appreciated them making a really good apple fritter! Not that awful apple filling stuff others do. Needless to say the family enjoyed them and they went quickly. The boudin kolache is the cheapest boudin you can buy and has slimy texture, you could feel through the crispy bread.

There is a good amount of Southern Maid Donuts in Houston but this location is the best one, it's definitely a gem for sure. The first time I came here I placed a big order because I wanted to do something for our local police department by my job. It was my way to say thank you for all they've done for the community & just keeping the area that I work at safe. The owner of this location is a hard worker & he made my order in a timely manner & I was able to deliver it to the station before the officers started their shift. Everything is hot, fresh and yummy. The Kolache's are huge, fluffy, soft, airy & even the sausage on the inside was better in quality than Shipleys & Kolache factory. The sausage/bacon egg & cheese croissant was fantastic. Their glazed donuts are soft & sweet, maybe a bit too sweet for me so I can only eat 1-2 of them. Overall, great experience each time I come here. What I like about this location is consistently, it's definitely never a disappointing one. From the outside & inside it doesn't look pleasing but their fresh products makes up for it. Will I come back? You bet I will. read more

It's in a ghetto looking shopping center attached to a gas station. The place just looked really dirty and like they have not done any repairs since the 1970's the kolaches were ok , the bread was nice but I got two jalapeño sausage in cheese n it just felt like I was eating a bread and a hot dog. No flavor not enough cheese and not enough jalapeño tbh. I got one blueberry cake donut and it wasn't good. Not coming back. I asked for some cream cheese on the side because the kolaches had no flavor maybe I can dip it in there but no they told me they don't have any lol even tho they had cream cheese donuts on display lol so the service gets a 4/10 the food 4/10 and the place environment ambiance gets a 1/10 read more

One of the best glazed donuts I ever had. Very reasonable priced and they're open 7 days a week. I ordered a dozen glazed donuts ($8) and 2 kolaches (~2.3 each). The donuts were fantastic! They were very fluffy, soft, and warm. I usually never say this, but they melted in my mouth. I ate 4 donuts in one sitting. So addictive! As for the kolaches, I got the Boudin sausage w/ cheese and the jalapeño sausage w/ cheese. The kolaches were decent. My only complaint would be that there was too much bread than meat and cheese. I don't know; I'm not a kolache connoisseur. Anyways, I definitely recommend this place for their glazed donuts. Amazing! I'll definitely be coming back whenever I have a donut crave. read more

Small little shop but definitely great! I got an egg and cheese croissant and let me tell you, it was delicious. The croissant was fluffy, flaky and a lot bigger than expected. The amount of cheese and egg in there was perfect. I also had some donut holes which were soft and glazed just right. Not too much, not too little. I must note, I got my food at noon. Considering that it was so late in the day for breakfast, I was pleasantly surprised to bite into cloud-like donut holes. The man who welcomed me in and took my order was possibly the best part of my experience. He didn't say much, but was extremely kind and respectful. He genuinely seemed to appreciate my business. This place is a bit far out of my area, but I will make sure to stop by anytime I am around again. read more

I have relied on this place on horrible Saturdays when I was forced to go in early at my previous job and would pick up food for my friends. My picky friends all liked it, unless they were on a temporary diet, which later they would regret not having tried the food here. Personally, I think donuts and donuts, and don't see too much difference. What I like about this place is the interesting kolaches from boudin to jalapeno and sausage. It's just those interesting combinations that make coming here worth it. I think if it wasn't for the heartier breakfast items like their version of a sausage and egg biscuit and their various kolaches, I don't think I'd be as eager to come here. The people here are always sweet and very prompt. The line even when long, seems to always disappear before you even get the chance to get impatient, even with one or two people at the front. I'm not really sure how they pull that off. Ok...the only drawback is that it's not exactly the most healthiest of options, but when it's between going to work at 7 am on a Saturday in a bad mood, or going to work at 7 am on a Saturday munching on food as you force down the bad mood, I take the kolaches every time. Every once in a while you need to find a donut place and hope it's not super generic and the same as every other one of the donut shops. This place is amazing. Not generic at all! Their kolaches are very unique. The bread is delicious and not that super airey bread either. Their donuts have a sweet icing that is different than other places and the owner, sporting a fedora, was super nice and went out of his way to make my order amazing. Great customer service. Southern Maid donuts is a place I have passed by many times but only tried recently. I've been missing out until now. The donuts are fresh, soft, and sweetly delicious. They have a large variety to choose from not only in the donut category but in kolaches, croissants and other breakfast sandwiches. They even sell a boudin kolache which is very good in a savory, slightly smoked meaty way. The regular sausage and cheese kolaches have a good flavor, as well. The sausage is well seasoned and not gristly or fatty. Some of my favorite donuts from here include the coconut iced, cinnamon sugar and crumble. There are so many to try that it's hard to pick just a few. It's a case of eyes being much bigger than the stomach. They also sell Community Coffee which is always hot and freshly brewed. Service is friendly and fast without rushing anyone.The servers also make a note on your bags that tells the right amount of time for warming your purchase(s). I am very glad I stopped in here and gave this place a try. It's another donut shop I can add to my places to sate a donut craving and early morning donut breakfasts. read more

Nice little shop. Couple at the register are really nice. Coffee was just okay nothing special. The glazed donuts are delicious. They are similar to KK in terms of how light and fluffy they are, just bigger in size compared to KK and not thick or doughy like Shipleys. I also tried their egg and cheese croissants. I am always in the look out for local run donuts places. My gold standard is Shipley's. I saw this place a while back and to give it a shot. The place was packed and the couple that was running the place was greeting many by first names. I knew I came to the right place. I ordered plain glazed, plain cake, blueberry cake, and glazed blueberry for the family. The verdict was 100% yummy. Shipley's has a legit competitor. okay so im going to start off by saying this: i freaking love donuts. i decided to try this place because it's literally 6 minutes from my job and i really wanted a donut lol. it's a small little hole in the wall kind of place and those are normally the best kind places to get food from. i ordered half a dozen(bc its a $4 minimum with card) of original glazed donuts. MANNNNNNN THEY WERE SO GOOD!! perfectly glazed, not too much and not too dry. super soft, literally melts in your mouth. and the best part is they stay soft and taste just as good even a few hours later! the elderly man that took my order was also very sweet so that's always a plus. the prices are cheap too, highly recommend this place! i would upload a picture of my donuts but i ate them all :( read more

Boudain kolaches!!! I have only been here once, but the man in the fedora (I think he owns the place) is so sweet and friendly. Their kolaches are huge and so are their croissant sandwiches.
