I tried this donut shop today after passing it for many years. Upon entering, I noticed the shot was clean and smelled of freshly baked items. I tried the jumbo jalapeño kolache. It was ok, nothing special. I also tried their blueberry cake, glazed donuts, which were just OK. The lady who waited on me was kind and professional. Came pretty early one morning and I'm so happy we decided to stop here! It's like a very familiar feeling place, very homey and comfortable. The lady at the counter was so so sweet and helped us order. It felt like a happy place to start your day. She even threw in a couple donut holes for us to try!! The brisket kolache was really good and had a lot of meat in it. Also comes w bbq sauce. The sausage egg and cheese kolache was my favorite. Lots of filling. I was in the mood for a cronut for the past week and was excited to see that this place makes them. I saw they had a Yelp check in offer for a free donut and was even more excited, and I figured how perfect for my first time at new donut spot. The storefront was spacious inside and there was a good selection of donuts available mid morning on a Friday. The daughter of the owner was very sweet and seemed apologetic for what turned into an awkward situation. Without going into minute detail, I asked to redeem the Yelp free donut check in offer and I was told the offer was expired and that I could buy something. I said I understood if they would not accept it but that it was still active on Yelp for anyone with an account to redeem so they may want to look into contacting Yelp and removing it. They ultimately threw in a regular glazed with my cronut after some back and forth between staff while I was checking out, but I could tell it was with reluctance from the owner and I was left feeling like someone begging for food instead of a customer. I can understand the overhead costs and struggles of running small family businesses, but if you advertise a deal online, please don't give your customers a hard time over trying to redeem it. It makes us feel unwelcome! As for the cronut, it was ok! I noticed it didn't have a high rise like other cronuts I've had. It was very dense and chewy and the icing was heavy-handed so it was too sweet for me to finish, but the taste was nice and I don't mind a chewy croissant. Ordered (6-Jalapeño, sausage, & cheese kolaches) but recv'd (6-plain sausage & cheese). Ordered (4-potato, egg, & cheese kolaches) which had (99% potato), (1% egg), & a small (drop of cheese) which is ridiculous. Ordered some cinnamon rolls that had almost no cinnamon and way too much glazing. It tasted like it was made with stale old dough and wasn't good at all. Please see attached pictures. Stopped by to grab some kolaches since it's been a while since I've been in the area. The kolache was decent, but not as good as I remembered, which was disappointing. What really stood out, though, was the change in service. The last time I visited, the owner was super nice, but this time around, her attitude was completely different--she was rude. I asked her for recommendations and what's popular, which I thought was a pretty simple and harmless question, especially since it had been over a year since my last visit and there are so many options. She snapped back with, "All of them are popular. All of them are good," and just stared at me. It really caught me off guard. I just picked a kolache, paid, and left. This place doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside there's a small amount of seating. I came here Thinking they had more of a variety of donuts to pick from but they only had like 4. But! The donut I had was such a good cake donut and moist. They also have kolaches, had the spicy chicken one which wasn't that great. Maybe if you go on a weekend there's more options. There's definitely better donut and kolaches in Houston so this place definitely won't be the first place I stop at next time I'm in Houston. read more

The donut holes were tasty. The apple-blueberry fritter was good as well -- I like apple fritters, and I like blueberry cake donuts, so this was like a perfect blend of the two things. I don't recommend the kolaches... there's way too much bread, so the balance between bread and fillings isn't right. Would like it better if the bread was thinner. My wife also complained that her kolache (sausage egg and cheese) was too salty -- she took 2 bites and didn't eat any more. read more

I have been supporting this business for years even with new owners. I love supporting small business but not at the cost of disrespect. However I was extremely disappointed when I had to return to show the owner that a weevil was in my donut. 1st off the daughter the daughter had a terrible attitude and then shoved my donut in bag and was telling her mother I'm front of me that "implying that I could have been lying". Followed by the owner telling me that she doesn't have to do an exchange and will not give money back. So I this is ridiculous and thank you and no response back. Overall my experience was disrespectful and I will not recommend them to the neighborhoods anymore. I had never had a prior issue. The teenage daughter normally doesn't speak or say thank you however this time was poor customer service and out right disrespectful and disappoint by the owners behavior because she has been so nice. I came here to try out the kolache's. I always get the sausage, cheese, and jalapeño kolache. I tried out the jumbo and the regular size. The best part of their kolache is the bread. I don't know why, but I still like my Shipleys kolache better. Maybe the sausage or cheese at Shipleys is more flavorful? I really like how the lady cleans the screen with an alcohol swab after each person uses it. Also, they have hand sanitizer available to use. read more

Baker's glazed donut is soft, light, and one of the better ones I've had from any locally owned donut joint. The crispy cinnamon glazed donut was really good!
