Went here yesterday the lady working there was nice and helpful to the menu option. The jumbo jalapeno and sausage cheese kolache was great. The donut holes not so much. I agree with one of the reviews I read that they were under cooked . A bit mushy for my taste but overall good. I also tried a sausage and gravy kolache which I never tried but it wasn't my thing. So I would just stick to the standard kolaches or tacos when coming here . read more

Ever since my Chicago trip, I have been searching around Houston/Houston metro for old fashion donuts (just like the ones from Stan's donuts). Instead, I found the best spinach feta croissant! Do not hesitate, get it! It's delicious. Personally, I'm not a fan of their meatier items (like their breakfast tacos or kolaches) but still decent at decent prices if you're craving for more salty rather than sweets for breakfast/brunch/pick me up. Out of all of their old fashion donuts, blueberry is my favorite. Their plain old fashion tasted like glaze donuts so that might be a mistake from the staffs not recognizing it - regardless, it's sweet and good size donut for reasonable prices. Ambiance is always clean and functional whenever I stop by and seems like it's a local favorite, for those who are in this part of Sugar Land. Friendly service and they always ask if I want to warm up some pastries or breakfast tacos. Plenty of parking. Most people stop by to grab and go but there's some big seatings if you want to eat or relax with your drink. Credit cards and cash accepted. read more

Came here for a quick bite before a morning movie. It's a humble and unassuming donut shop with very personable staff and friendly service. We ordered kolaches, croissants kolaches, and donuts. Undercooked donut holes. Who's ever even heard of such a thing? I ordered Southern Maid through Uber eats, and for the first time in 30 years of donut eating, I ate undercooked donut holes... I guess I didn't technically eat it, since as soon as the donut hole popped in my mouth like a gusher, I spit it right into the trash. I turned to the glazed donuts for redemption, but they were also damaged goods. The two donuts were comically smooshed together together, and one looked like it had a bite taken out of it. Their ham and cheese croissant kolaches were almost good, except they were ALSO undercooked. I tried to move past the gluey dough in the middle but just couldn't deal. Go to any other Southern Maid. Don't waste your money at this one. No one has time for breakfast this bad. read more

We come here about 2 or 3 times a week. We have never had a bad experiences. The bbq kolaches are good, the Boudin are huge and delicious! This is my favorite spot for me and my kids. I stumbled across this from Uber eats and I have ordered to go twice from here so far. I have ordered the bacon and egg breakfast tacos, kolaches, lemon filled and cherry filled donuts as well as donut holes. I can't really speak for the customer service as I've only ordered through Uber eats. The food was prepared fast and fresh. My favorite was the lemon filled donuts. I believe I ordered a dozen of the lemon filled alone and that quickly became my guilty pleasure within those two days of ordering. They are really good. I feel like a jerk giving a one start during the pandemic but it is what it is, I came and ordered two kolaches and a chorizo taco. They did asked if I wanted them warmed up but since it was early I assumed they were still simi fresh and slightly warmed... oh how wrong was I. The kolaches tasted days old and the taco looked like they had all the ingredients premade stores in a fridge then assembled together when decided how much inventory was decided, like it had unmelted shredded cheese on top. If that's the case they should just absolutely warm it up without asking because I'm pretty sure you can't be selling food under a certain temperature. Not only that it's pretty customary for these items to be served hot and if you know they're not hot wtf you doing asking if they want them hot? Such a waste of money. I didn't try the doughnuts so maybe they have that going for them I'd pass on any tacos or kolaches from them tho cuz yeeesh read more

They are good most of the time and the service is quick and efficient. When the food is dry and bad oh my god it's disgusting. It's pretty pricy now for donuts but everything in the area is falling apart or shutting down so I'm pretty sure they are just trying to keep the doors open read more

Hands down this is the best donut stop in Sugar Land. I have been going to this place for over a decade. I prefer the cake donuts but they have such a large selection that I would recommend you try them all. Don't worry about leftovers as these go fast. They also have breakfast tacos, croissants, and other things like pastries, donut holes, apple fritters and eclairs to name a few. When I take them to work they call them the crack donut as they are really good and addicting. Everyone wants to know where this place is. Never crowded and the wait time is slim to non and there are a few places to sit down but i believe most people take out. Customer service is great and you're always greeted with a smile. This is the hands down a treasure trove for those who need a sugar rush in Sugar Land. read more

My family loves Southern Maid (this location, have not been at any other location). we are loyal customers. Leaps and bound above Shipley and Crispy Creme IMO. They have expended their offerings and have always had a nice variety of donuts. Chocolate old fashion are our favorite...by ours, I mean my family as a whole. They are very sweet and a small business. The store is always clean. I have consistently had terrible customer service at almost every Shipley I have set foot in and the donuts selection has always been limited so Southern Maid is the way to go! read more

Not the best donuts or kolaches I've had. The location is convenient to my house so I stopped by before work. Donuts were good, just not the best. I couldn't finish the ham and cheese kolache (I don't know if it's just me...but it was not good at all). Living right next to this location, I try to grab breakfast from here as often as I can. I've been here more than enough times and the donuts have consistently been delicious. They offer a fairly large selection of donuts and an assortment of drinks as well as coffee. I actually prefer South Maid Donuts over Shipley's. They have my favorite donut, the old-fashion donut. I usually order the old-fashion chocolate icing donut and it hits the spot EVERY time. The kolaches, however, are slightly better at Shipley's but they are still delicious here. I don't order them often, though, they do offer a few variations. The staff has been helpful when I had any questions. The prices are very reasonable and you'll get plenty of bang for your buck. The kolaches are slightly more than the donuts but that's to be expected. Overall, the donuts here are really good. They offer my favorite donut and they're located near me so I come here for any of my donut needs. They've been at this location for as long as I can remember and they continuously provide the best. If you're in the area, come here and give the old-fashion chocolate frosting donut a try or any other of their offerings. Definitely recommended! read more

Southern maid donuts are the best! The other donut places are not worth the trouble. And they're a lot cheaper than the competition! Dunkin donuts is like $1 per donut and they taste old and stale and they don't have that shape I like. But southern maid is yummy and they're super nice and they wished me a wonderful day, up til now all I got was a good day. Crisp and fresh donuts! Came here just the other day and grabbed a few cake donuts and old fashioned donuts. The plain cake was my favorite, nice and simple. The glazed donuts were too sweet for my liking but they were still nice and fresh, paired with hot plain coffee without sugar. I also tried the vegetarian breakfast taco consisting of egg, cheese and potato. It wasn't the best I've tried but it wasn't too bad either. The taco curbed my craving and filled me up early in the morning without the dreaded fear of a sugar crash. I did have to heat up the taco once I got home, because it was a bit cold. All in all, I enjoyed the experience here at Southern Maid and the workers are quite friendly and attentive. I'll definitely drop by if i'm in the area. I write this mid Hurricane Harvey rebuild, and although I appreciate that they were open mid storm, this place showed me the true difference between other donut shops and Shipley's. You could taste the cheapness and inexperience in each donut. The teller was repeatedly pushing how "nice and warm" the donuts were even after I had already paid for them, and I realized why as soon as I bit into the first mediocre treat. They were in between lukewarm and cold. Would not recommend going to this place while Shipley's is still living and breathing on every corner nearby. read more

Have you ever been to a place that was so clean that you could eat off of the floor? Then you could be at Southern Maid Donuts. They have a very fast, efficient, and helpful staff. They are not open through the evening like some of the other chains, but their products are fresh. They carry all of the usual items plus an assortment of breakfast tacos. I purchased a beef, egg, and cheese breakfast taco....uh, stick to the doughnuts! All in all, this is a eat place for a snack if you are in the area. Grew up eating here, & over the past 5yrs or so, everything seemed to be more & more disappointing each time I went. The kolaches didn't have enough cheese & the bread was NOT soft & fresh like it used to be. The French cruellers were so hard that they seemed like they were 3 days old. So I stopped going. Finally decided to go back today & the kolaches & chocolate French cruellers were perfect! Everything just like it used to be back in the day. And the best part - you won't leave feeling like you just got robbed (ahem, that's you Shipley's...prices have hiked to outrageous levels at that place! This is the Donut's store I have never ever seen before. It is really fresh donuts, Kolaches and Croissant.

Been coming to this place for years. Located next to the Subway restaurant in a little shopping strip-center (that's constantly changing tenants), this place has been a stable donut shop for the past 20+ years. Owned and operated by a nice little Korean family I believe. They have been serving donuts, kolaches, croissants, muffins, and scones to the "Old Sugar Land" population on this side of the tracks for ages. They've added breakfast tacos (bacon and egg, sausage and egg, egg and potato) to the menu and those are pretty decent sized and a savory fix to the morning craving. They have a good selection of bottled beverages in their fridge ranging from Starbuck's frappuccinos to little juice boxes/milk cartons, and energy drinks/tea. They serve hot coffee and hot chocolate or cappuccinos out of a large beverage machine. Personally, I have yet to try the hot beverages. This place is clean, and opens daily at 4 or 5am! (talk about dedication). This place is super clean, and always bustling in the morning. I believe they receive exceptionally good business in this area, especially with a big name franchise restaurant, (McDonald's) serving hot breakfasts literally right across the parking lot. read more
