When you are hungry but aren't sure quite what you want to eat....sometimes all it takes is someone…read moreshouting about pulled pork nachos to make the decision for you! A closer look at the menu tells you that you'll get 2-3 POUNDS of nachos. And they ain't kidding! The chips come topped with a behemoth amount of pulled pork and melted cheese. Then you get to choose your toppings, beginning with barbecue sauce. Your options are sweet or spicy. I went with sweet. I would have preferred the bbq sauce being put on before the cheese so it got on the meat. But you end up mixing it all together anyway to eat it, so it doesn't matter all that much.... I also got mine topped with cilantro and red onions. You can also get jalapeños and pickles, which I decided to forego. $8-ish for an obscene amount of tasty nachos! BBQ and nachos. Together in one dish. What more do you want?!

The must visit is "Bourbon Bent BBQ" there are on average 8 items, the staples and one or two new. I have always said. Give customers new choices but never stray from what people crave for. Who knows better? "Bourbon Bent BBQ" Every time I visit the beef brisket is the first to sellout and for good reason. It's crazy good! Tender and moist with the right smokiness. Chicken and Pork round out the BBQ choices, all served several ways. Now! The best item I crave when ever I see Bourbon Bent is? Drum role please! The Best Pulled Pork Cheese Nachos ever! Spicy, sweet and savory toppings galore. My favs are scallions with this unique pickled slaw, sour cream and habaneros. Every tasty huge basket feeds two. There is one dilemma. My nacho chips they start thick and crisp yet they wilt from my lack of attention when using a fork also from the abundance of pulled pork cheesiness. It's a small sacrifice but I can live with it. So if your out fleaing at Fresh Start in NULU or at one of the river front festivals try Bourbon Bent BBQ.

You're at your fave Louisville bar, probably on Bardstown Road. You're taking in the other…read morebar-goers, who are more than likely a mix of hipsters and other locals. The crowds part. And standing in the middle is a long-bearded man in overalls with a basket full of Ziplock baggies. And you start salivating. This is, of course, because Rusty has just arrived, and his beef jerky always seems like the perfect addition to a night out. The first time you see him you're cautiously intrigued. By the fifth and sixth time, you greet him like an old friend. And this is because Rusty is a local institution. Rusty is "keep Louisville weird" in real life. I love that he's a part of the Louisville nightlife scene. And much more than hype -- his beef jerky is really good. I love his teriyaki jerky, which has a bit of a sweetness to it. The jerky with black pepper has a bit of a kick, but not too much that makes you want to stop eating. (And if you are in the mood for something spicy, Rusty has some varieties of jerky with some heat as well.) And tonight I got to try some of his bacon jerky ... because ... bacon. I love me some bacon (obvs) but had never had bacon jerky before. I'm happy that I could get to do this through Rusty. And my thoughts: It's not as flavorful as typical, just fried bacon, though I think that would normally happen in the jerky process. But it still is delicious -- and absolutely so after a couple of beers. Considering it's more fatty than typical jerky, it's not as dense, but again, good. Rusty must know his audience because I can imagine eager Highlands bar-goers, literally, eating it up. Each of the bags is $5. It's a modest amount of jerky in each, but again, he knows his clientele. And I've shelled out a fiver on multiple locations to get this locally made treat. So next time you see a man in overalls carrying a basket walk in, ask him what he has to sell tonight and enjoy the savory goodness.
