Date of visit: December 19, 2024 Passed by this super cute boutique in the Riverwalk Outlet Mall and JUST had to stop in as I was missing my little furball during my trip. The store is not very large, but they use the space quite well; no open space is not utilized! They have a bakery case with handmade items for your little lovelies and even those ridiculous pet strollers that you see ridiculous people pushing with their pocket pooch inside. If you're into fun toys, they have amazing knockoffs, including Chewy Vuitton and Fursace! For Patrick, our resident four-legged terrorist, I brought him back a squeaker toy that looks like a jar of his favorite food, peanut butter and he loved it! What I didn't love about Southern Paws: The cashier was on her phone the entire time I was in the store and while she put it down to complete my transaction, I got a feeling like I was bothering her. Also didn't love the prices, $13 for a small toy is a bit steep--especially for an Outlet mall! read more

Super cute shop!! I was in New Orleans for a work trip and popped over to this part of town to check out the shops. I have two very demanding Shih Tzus that are very much done with all my traveling this year. I had to have some goodies for them in my bag or I was going to be in the doghouse. I grabbed a crawfish toy because duh, New Orleans. I also bought some of the cute squeaky toys like "Sour Scratch Paws" and "Barker's Mark". My dogs are besties with a Frenchie so I bought her an Elf-themed sweater. They have adorable party hats, like the fancy ones on Etsy, funny stickers, home decor, t-shirts, and a cute little bakery case. They had more than the standard cookies too! My Goldendoodles & I were visiting New Orleans for our birthday month. We needed some treats, dry hair shampoo & party accessories. The staff was amazing, helpful and patient. My dogs were very excited and wanted to sniff and try everything. We found cute jester collars, gourmet treats & the dry shampoo. My bank declined my debit card because I was traveling. The man that helped me was patient and kind as he waited for me to call my bank and resolve the issue. The dogs enjoyed drinking out of their cool huge tire water bowl when we left. It's so hard to find a present for my beloved hound when I travel, and Southern Paws was perfect for that! They have a lot of adorable cookies, toys, leashes, etc for your furry friend. My dog gives their cookies four paws, and dove at them with the zeal of an alligator to marshmallows. It was a little weird one customer had their purchase ended with a push to visit them online, and another just kind of hand their bag handed to them, but maybe that's done randomly. read more

I'm obsessed with Southern Paws! I make it a habit to find a pet store whenever I travel as I feel guilty for leaving my two pups at home in San Diego and always want to bring them a treat as a peace offering. When I stumbled upon this adorable store in the French Quarter, I made a mental note to return before wrapping up my visit to New Orleans. On my final night, I popped in and was immediately impressed with the selection of treats, toys and other pet-related goodies. The hardest part was narrowing down the options as there were so many things that I wanted for my girls! Since my pug is quite the fashionista, I ended up getting her a "laissez le bon temps rouler" purple dress. I debated whether the extra large would fit her as she's usually a medium in Petco dresses but the sizing wasn't too far off. I think a large would have fit slightly better as the extra large was a little long for her but the large was sold out. It was a little stressful buying from a store 1,800 miles away but I took a gamble and it paid off! For my mastiff, I decided on a stuffed alligator toy with a squeaker. She's not as fond of dresses as her sister and I figured it would be even more of a risk to find the right size for her 105-pound frame. She does, however, love stuffed animals and has been having a great time playing with her gator over the past month. I also chose two cookies, which were big hits and gone quickly. The woman working the register was helpful in assisting me with choosing the right treat and size for the dress. I highly recommend that all pet owners stop into this store to spoil their pups with treats and toys as there's no doubt that our fur babies deserve it! read more

My sweet dog child made one on last week and we thought it was only right to purchase him some birthday treats! When searching this was the first spot we googled and I'm glad we did. We ordered 5 birthday donuts and peanut butter ice cream. My dog loved it! The ice cream was definitely his favorite because he went to the bag looking for more once he gobbled it up. The only thing negative i would say is the prices are pretty steep and the parking is terrible since it's downtown in the French quarters but other than that I have no complaints. This is a must-stop for me every time I come to New Orleans (and I often order from them online when I'm back at home). It doesn't matter what I am looking for -- some touristy souvenir of being in New Orleans, a sweet treat, or an amazing new toy, they have it all! The bakery and treat section always leaves me staring because I can never decide what my dogs might like the most. There are so many choices and it doesn't matter if it's Canine King Cakes or peanut butter cup look-a-likes, my dogs always go wild. There are all kinds of NOLA inspired goodies -- dog clothes, leashes and collars, stuffed crawfish or gators, bandanas, whatever! Their Connor the Crawfish (small or large sized) is my dogs' favorite and I have to bring one home every time I stop by. The staff is always helpful, and if they don't have something you're looking for in the Quarter location, they can check over at Riverwalk to see if there's something there they can put on hold for you. When in New Orleans, I stopped into the dog store called: Southern Paws. It was a neat store with all sorts of: treats, clothing, accessories, etc... for dogs. When looking at their different kinds of bones for sale, I noticed they had alligator skin chews and I thought that was very unique because I had never seen nor heard of those before. So, I ended up buying an alligator chew for each of my dogs (which they later on ended up not liking at all when I gave it to them, but it was the thought that counted). Staff at Southern Paws was nice and friendly. Overall, an very cool and interesting dog store for sure! read more

I ordered a few items online for my daughter's fur baby's birthday. They have so many cute and unique items for your pet(s). I had never seen wine (mock) for animals! I thought it was such a cute idea for celebrating. They also have toys with designer names like "Chewy Vuiton". I don't live in Louisiana, so I called and spoke with Sam and Nate and explained that I was going to have a friend pick up my order and deliver it to my daughter's home. I asked if they could make the packaging look a bit festive since it was purchased for Pop Tart's birthday and they were very accommodating. They did a great job adding colored tissue paper, a fancy bow to the bag, and a handwritten note with my sentiment. I really appreciated their help making my gift feel so special. Our pup, Olive, requested we find her a crawfish souvenir while on our visit to New Orleans. I called ahead and was told that they carried plush crawfish squeaky toys. Walked in and found they had all sorts of sizes and textured stuffed (and squeaky) toys! From alligators, to crawfish to Mardi Gras theme and more, this is THE pet botique to visit in The French Quarter. Not to mention, they had yummy themed pet treats as well! Like Shrimp GumBones! She was teething and tearing up all of her toys, so I was on the hunt for a toy that could hold up. Staff recommended several things including their yak cheese (lactose free) toys. I chose a bully stick wrapped in the cheese which was a hit with the pup and her mom. Puppy worked on the cheese coating for about an hour with pure delight and then turned her attention to the bully stick. Overall, the toy lasted for a day and half of intense chewing. Although prices are higher than you'll find in suburban areas or on-line, Southern Paws is a sweet and handy place to get upscale pet souvenirs while in the French Quarter.
