They cover lots of different animal needs - lots of food, toys, carriers, bedding, leashes, collars and such. They also have a grooming service. My cat has been spoiled rotten since my experience at Jefferson Feed. The customer service is over the top and knowledge of food and toys for my kitty and the assortment is like Whole Foods for your dog or cat laid out in a clean and inviting shopping experience. I love that I also bought Mexican sunflower and Arugula seeds here for my garden. Chris turned me onto this raw "Vital" brand chicken patty for my Kiki. I thought well, let's just bring kitty home an expensive treat to enjoy. Nope!!! Since the raw chicken frozen patties, my cat has boycotted, snubbed, howled at the moon stared at the gourmet substitutes and had me panicking when they God forbid, ran out of the $13.95 bag and didn't have a shipment coming in with his flavor for a couple days. Or if I don't have one defrosted in the fridge for his breakfast! Lord help us. It's actually quite hilarious.I didn't realize a cat could be so dominant and serious about food. Yessssssss finally in the area. Look out Petsmart & Petco. And in this complex, oooooh yes. Easy to navigate aisles. Friendly staff. A plethora of supplies available as needed. Dog foods, toys, chews etc. I stopped in to get supplies for a new litter of pups. In total I got leashes, collars, a dewormer & 7 in 1 vaccinations; all equivalent to the cost of an office visit for one pup. The staff member was quite knowledgable & informative. Did I just get a crash course in breeding??? I think so. Lol. Love this place. Glad it's here. I'd love to see this place expand with more goodies. I was on a mission of mercy and picked up dog food (not in my neighborhood) for a friend. The staff was really nice and repeatedly offered to carry the bag of food to the car. The prices seemed compatible with big box chains, but this is a locally owned store. (The original is in my childhood neighborhood). So Jefferson Feed thinks "Pets And Pets" is a good idea for a rewards program. You know what is an even better idea? Amazon.com and Chewy. I would prefer NO rewards program over a rewards program that does not work like 99.9999999% of normal rewards programs. If you so much as happen to accidentally open one of your coupons, despite whether or not you have actually scanned and used it, it will expire completely & any points you had will be gone. Also, half of the things I bought NEVER showed up on my points, & when I deleted/reinstalled the app, it would not accept my login credentials. I explained this to the staff of bratty millennials at Jefferson Feed in Mid City and they all but blamed ME for the problem. I went in here after my puppy destroyed all of her toys. When I arrived I was greeted and offered assistance by a very helpful young man. He showed me their toughest toys, and suggested I give my pup an antler to chew-he said it would take her a few weeks and it would keep her busy. I was skeptical, so I bought the smallest one. But it is working! She loves it...it's weird...haha He also showed me where I can get a PatSafe brand easy walk harness. I feel like I have a brand new dog! No more pulling me down the street---it is literally a miracle as far as dog walking goes! They carry to best odor and stain removers too! They have a great selection of toys and treats and all the best dog food brands. We love the mini training treats-and they taste great too! Very satisfied with my experience here! Today was my first time going to this pet feed store for my pup who's 4 months. I used to get his food from Double M Feed Store located in Terrytown. The workers weren't very friendly, they also didn't help bring the food outside to the car. I'm not saying they are obligated but I've always had someone assist me in bringing the food because it's so heavy out. I purchased a 40 lb bag of food when I normally get a 50lb bag of food and it shockingly was more than I pay for the 50 lb bag of food. I probably am going to commute to my old feed store, only because they are more accommodating. Not terrible but just not the best fit for me and my baby. read more

This is a smaller location than I like going to, but it's one of the only pet places that carries our food. Staff at ever store whether, this location or their others is some of the most helpful and knowledgeable people that I know. Most times if staff from any business is busy with another customer I just walk on by trying to find what I'm looking for. I realized on this trip, that not all the stores are set up the same. That's cool with me. It also brought to my attention that I don't often veer off course when buying extras. However, I needed some specific vet recommended chew toys. I looked up the aisles closest to the food, but no luck. As I passed an employee, who was indeed helping another customer, I walked past. She took her time to stop, apologized to the client and asked if she could help me. What?! Wow! She accurately directed me to the exact spot and I quickly grabbed a few and headed to the register. We plunked down quite a few bucks for expensive stuff. Better food and items have shown in our dogs health and less trips to the vet. I got a puppy a few years ago, and always try to support local business when possible, so I came here with zero idea of how to be a dog mom. The staff here was very helpful. They helped me pick out a healthy dog food and explained the benefits of grain free + probiotic dog food. I was able to pick a good quality dog food for my little guy, and signed up for a rewards program where after purchasing 10 bags, I get one free. Every time I visit the staff is very personable and goes above and beyond to help the customers. They will carry heavy bags of dog food to your car for you, and always love to say hello to everyone's fur babies. Good mercy me, this place is a paradise for those bleeding heart, hippie pet owners who do things like use sustainable, flushable kitty litter or feed their dogs all-meat food. We are, in fact, those weirdo pet owners who go for the wheat by-product litter and grain-free cat food and organic cat chews. (I was an art major, okay? I must have inhaled too many of the wrong fumes somewhere...) But whatever, this store is the place to acquire such items in the GNO metro at good prices. Their prices for our litter (Swheat Scoop) are competitive with Amazon, and they can do custom orders for larger bags. We plan on trying out that service. An employee told me that I should call on Monday to place a special order that will come in on Wednesday. But they can get larger sizes of products that are already on the shelves if you have more animals than a small bag will satisfy. The grain-free pet food selections are stupendous. We stopped by to pick up a bag of a specific brand, but talking to an employee (no name tag, otherwise he'd get a shout-out of awesome!) led us to another, cheaper brand. Did y'all catch that? The employee advised us that the cheaper brand was actually the better brand for our pets. I'm delighted with the service here, and that makes me want to come back and shop more. Talking to the employees about their experience and relationship with new feeds and products is a win-win-win, and I love it. Of course these products are going to be more expensive. We know that. But if you need a grain-free food or want to try a new way to hide your pet's pills or owe your neighbor a bag of their fancy kitty litter, don't bother with Petco/Petsmart. Just come here. Yes, this place is more expensive than Petco or Petsmart, but it has the best prices for a small(er)(ish) business in the city. I buy Blue Buffalo for my dogs twice a month. The huge pet store chains usually charge $53 for the bag, and Jeff Feed charges $57. So, we are really splitting hairs here. Also, when you're dealing with a business like this, you can find help with products from people who actually know what they are talking about. For example, I was looking for a natural teeth cleaner, and they recommended beef trachea. Which they had in stock. Weird, but it totally works! So my girl graduated from the pronged choke collar. But she still pulls. Most alarming is that after she does her "sit" for traffic, she jolts when the coast is clear. I fear she may pull too hard and get hit and I don't want to go back to the choke collar. I also worry about the pressure on her neck. So I thought a harness would work. Thanks to James at NPM, Roux has been fitted with a pretty pink harness We've only gone a few blocks but, so far, so good! James was very patient with her and very informative! He discussed the pros and cons for each harness and, given her breed and strength, made a great recommendation! We also racked up on some Greeniess and Whimzees. This place has some wonderful grain free options (Fromm's Salmon Tunalini is Roux's favorite!) They also carry Primal brand, which is all natural and my pup loves it! I shop here on the regular for both my cat and my dog. I decided this was an awesome alternative to shopping big box stores and supporting a local company instead. The change was cemented when I also decided to start feeding my dog better food instead of mass produced, commercial filler that is mostly grains and corn, both of which dogs wouldn't eat if left to their natural instincts. I have purchased everything from food, flea prevention, bedding and toys here, not to mention personalized identification tags! We love supporting this local store as opposed to the nearby chains. We come here for World's Best cat litter, science diet cat food, and Taste of the Wild dog food as well as our other sundry pet supplies. However, I have to grab my Arm and Hammer cat litter deodorizer (the best of the best) from a grocery store. It's a lovely store, but is a little small and missing that one essential item (they have the Tidy Cat brand, but that stuff doesn't work half as well. The lack of selection is the only thing keeping it from the 5th star. I would be remiss if I didn't take a moment to recognize the awesome staff. These folks are knowledgeable, friendly, and super crazy helpful. There's a guy who is usually here when I come in and I wish I could remember his name right now, but we talked gardens and he fixed me up with a natural, acidifying soil conditioner that seems to be doing the trick. I had a very positive experience here yesterday. Had to pick up some flea drops for my cats and after the purchase the cashier asked me if my house and yard were being treated as well. I told him that we were doing both and he proceeded to give me some tips about yard and hardwood floor treatments that included products that could be purchased anywhere. Had a wonderful customer service interaction at this location tonight! The woman working, Sam, doesn't often work at this location, as she is mostly based out of the Jefferson location (I inquired as to why I had never had the opportunity to see her at this location prior to this evening). I suppose maybe she was only covering a shift, but I enjoyed her thoroughly. Very well informed, helpful, and really funny! Regardless of the location, she's an asset to the company and was happy to make her acquaintance. Not related to this particular night, but the other woman who I consistently have the pleasure of dealing with every other time I frequent this location, Jae, is nothing short of incredible! She's so kind and literally always smiling and genuine in offering to assist. In fact, I got caught in a rain storm last week, dressed for an event that I was running late to attend, and she donated an umbrella to my cause, chatting with me while waiting for the weather to chill. It was the end the night and surely she had more pressing responsibilities requiring her attention, but she never alluded to that in any sense. It was lifesaving in that moment and completely out of her scope of work responsibilities. I work in hospitality so I remain acutely aware of customer service wherever I choose to spend my money. The disposition of these two women are exactly what I hope to have amongst my hired staff. I've never had a bad experience here and am happy to be a regular patron of this establishment. This review is strictly to rate Neighborhoods expertise In pet care- beta fish in particular. The staff which Sold me two Beta's and the kits to go with them- food, tanks 1/2 Gallons, and water stabilizer, had no idea what She was talking about! Nearly killed the fish. She told Me feeding measurements which was 1/40th recommended Amount as stated online and on back of fish food Container. Poor guys! After getting over malnutrition and Fin rot they were thriving with 3xs a week bowl Cleans and increased food. I followed cleaning Instructions to a tee as recommended on line. Ie. Tepid water brought to almost room temp, taking fish out Before washing bowl and feces etc out and using drops And tiny bit sea salt. Their coats grew back, they were So much more active swimming all around eating well. Color returned a lots of new fin growth. Well I returned couple weeks to buy more chlorine Stabilizer drops and discuss that it is pretty work Intensive keeping these tanks and fish healthy. The guy at the counter began to tell me he was An expert on fish and that's why he was brought To that store for that reason. He told me I had new fish tank Syndrome and not to clean it so much. I shouldn't Use tepid water, they like warm, not to remove them from Tank when changing water leave them in with just a little on Bottom for them to stay covered and pour new Stabilized water in. I questioned him several Times and he reassured me it was the best way For the fish. I did this last night exactly as he said, Today- 2 dead Betas!!! How stupid I was to listen to This guy and not my own instincts which had brought Them back from brink of death once before listening To there staff!!! Oh I will be informing the owner, these were My children's pets to make matters worse!! TIP: Do Not Listen to the workers when it comes to fish care Please!!! I discovered this place while driving by when I first moved into the Gentilly area. I had to drive to Metairie to Double M Feed, so I LOVE the convenience. I absolutely love this place. It is so clean and well organized. I have been in a few times and everyone has been SUPER helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Especially one gentleman and I never got his name unfortunately. (He's the shorter, stockier guy. And I don't mean for that to be snarky in any way!) I have had the pleasure of dealing with him twice and he is always willing to answer all my questions (and I have lots!) and thoroughly explain my options. Good and bad. My only complaint is that there is no hay selection. They only have Timothy hay, which is essential, but I like to give my bun different kinds once in awhile to mix it up. read more

absolutely fantastic for canned and dry cat food! they carry a variety of brands, including some super premium high quality stuff i've never seen before. you can find something for even the pickiest of eaters or most specialized of diets.the staff is ridiculously knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. prices on litter are a bit steep; it can be found cheaper elsewhere. i also wish they carried a larger variety of cat treats. bonus: you can drop off your mardi gras beads here. they will be magically re-used and generate profits to benefit shelter animals! read more

Reading these other reviews I am not sure what happened with me but it was NOT a pleasant experience. Prefer to shop local so stopped in here Tuesday as I live in mid city.They do not carry my brand of feed at this location but can have it sent from the other location and will be here Saturday. I tell Them I will be out by Friday but will grab something to make it till Saturday When I show up to pick up my order they don't have it. They did not do store to store transfers this week.
