This place is THE ONLY place in the state of Georgia where they know what they're doin. They got buttet but its not needed. They dont have all that extra "juicy crab" bs on the food. No you go in, pick yo food by the pound, they cook it to order, u eat it. Most places back home already have it cooked and u just pull up, other than that they got it yall. I promise. Only reason I'm giving them two stars is because of the price. They were so overly spicy. It was unbearable to eat. They were overcooked as if they were cooked last week and they just kept re-cooking them and re-cooking them so that they could be able to sell them out. After a certain point, you just have to take a loss because that hurts the integrity of the quality. They also used to be really good. I'm not sure what happened to them. I got 7 pounds and probably put five in the trash after a while. I just gave up $60 down the drain. read more

I always come here for the crawfish but it's kind of hit or miss on whether or not they're fresh. Even when you ask, they'll say they were cooked that day, but they won't taste like it. It seems like they mix the ones from the night before with the fresh ones. Wish they were more consistent. Prices air fair. Nowhere to really eat inside and doesn't appear the cleanest, but there's plenty of parking. Service is okay. read more

Today I had the best crawfish of my entire life. Most places offer barely midsize to tiny specimens with all the seasoning on the outside and barely any meat within. Southern Seafood on the other hand gave us mid to XL and they were meaty, juicy and flavourful all around. These weren't crawfish; they were craw-mommies and daddies. Mmmmm-m! More of a seafood market than restaurant, esp due to the appearance. They have the freshest seafood I've had so far in Atlanta. One of the workers was a lil rude. We got to pick out the crab legs we wanted. We got pounds of crab legs and shrimp, which came with potatoes and corn. The whole pan was steamed and seasoned like a seafood boil. I have been going to this place for years ! Have not been in about 2 years and I was a little disappointed with the major increase in prices - Expected of course , but it was a bit extreme. Thank the good Lord, I have found some Louisiana in Georgia. This is like a seafood market when you walk in there are a few tables and chairs that you can sit in. I ordered four pounds of crawfish and a pound of boiled shrimp( peeled and deveined for $1 extra per lb) they ask if you want them spicy or mild. I got mine spicy along with potatoes and corn for a total of around $43. I will start with the crawfish. Please do NOT ask for extra seasoning because my nose was running, mouth was on fire, and I drank an entire cup of water while eating my four pounds. There were a good mixture of small, medium, and large crawfish. My only complaint was that the crawfish were left in the water too long and I had a lot of mushy crawfish, which was a waste of money! Now for the shrimp, I did get my spicy which it seemed like they threw cayenne pepper on top of them. I mixed up some mayo and ketchup and those shrimp hit the spot. My potatoes and corn were good as well and had great flavor. All in all this little spot gave me that piece of home I was missing. Where do I start??? First, I walked in at 11am on a Sunday. I had just left church so I was feeling amazing. The man at the counter did not acknowledge me. An older gentleman came from the back and cheerfully greeted me. I think that the younger man at the counter was the owner or in charge. I chose my crab legs and then asked for the shrimp. I initially asked for him to weigh the larger shrimp and then asked to have the smaller ones weighed. I apologized and asked him to go back to the larger ones because I realized that the smaller ones were too small to peel and eat with ease. He responded to my request by asking with annoyance in his voice, "Are you sure?" I just looked at him with a side eye. After placing my entire order, I paid and received my itemized receipt. PLEASE REVIEW YOUR RECEIPT! There was a charge that I questioned. He informed me that it was the charge to cook the food. He charged me $2 PER POUND OF SEAFOOD to boil the seafood in the same water that you will use for all orders...smh. I asked him if this is posted somewhere. IT IS NOT!! Had I known, I would have taken the food home and boiled it myself. I suggested that this be posted. He stated that they have always charged. I had not patronized this establishment in over a year. I recall a cook fee, but it was $1 or $1.50 for your entire order. I definitely know that it was not $2 FOR EACH POUND that you purchased. I paid an additional $7 as I had 3 1/2 pounds of crab and shrimp. The crab legs were a nice size. The shrimp was overcooked and my potato was undercooked. Being from New Orleans, I knew better than to purchase the crawfish at this time of year, but I did it anyway as I remember the taste of the crawfish from this establishment being close to the taste of New Orleans. I also did not request to taste the crawfish prior to purchasing it. BIG MISTAKE!!! It was awful! I had to throw it away. It is boiled from frozen crawfish. Does this mean that it was boiled, frozen and then boiled or thawed? Not sure what it means but it was DISGUSTING. It does not have any flavor or the taste of crawfish. If the time of year changes the quality this drastically, you should not sell it. The rudeness of the owner, poor quality food and over charging for service will ensure that I will not frequent this establishment anymore nor will I any longer recommend this place to anyone. read more

I hate to give this little seafood store 1 star as I've supported them for years. But I just left and won't return again. No masks on either of the people working there and as I finished paying the man ringing me up sneezed. This place was shut down once by the health dept and I supported them when they finally re-opened. But this lack of care for customers at point in time put the nail in the coffin for me. I really wanted to support the local Vietnamese restaurant. However, it must not have been crawfish season. Those critters are so tiny! What little meat I could manage to get was tender though. I asked them to de shell the shrimp and to make it MINIMALLY spicy. Oh lawd, the juices must have soaked and concentrated in the crawfish heads and spilled over the rest of the seafood. I ate half of my order until I couldn't stand it anymore. I found a kefir yogurt drink from weeks ago and used that to rinse and get relief. I have never experienced anything so spicy. My lips got inflamed and I wanted to pass out to get relief. This experience led me to give it only one star. I also got a quarter of a potato that was bland. Corn also had no flavor at all (were my taste buds overwhelmed and killed by this point?!). The place was worth to try once. However, I'd do my research before re visiting. I live in the neighborhood and always buy my shrimp here. The shrimps are better than Kroger/publix and even better than Dekalb Farmers market shrimps. I buy the raw shrimps and cook with them at home. Always makes my dishes very impressive. The staff is always nice and prices are fair. Alright friends, you all are terribly wrong for never discussing the fact that the place smells like rotting vajayjay and it's like impossible to truly eat food in there since most of the time the 1 table is full of people, and honestly, who can really eat amidst the stench of rotting vajayjay (with no AC to boot!) I admit, that I've tried other places and I guess Southern Seafood has the best cajun potatoes (Crawfish shack just stole the show for the best corns) but that aside, I'd never EVER eat there. When I go, I order the food, wait outside while it's being prepared, and then when the guy waves me in, I pay and run out. I've even had to sit in the car preferably, than to dare THINK about eating inside of that establishment. Southern Seafood makes me think hmm... what exactly is your health rating, and why isn't it posted for all to see? I told a work colleague about it, and she said it smelled so gross in there that she and her husband didn't make it past the door. After visiting Crawfish Shack and the other Seafood place on Brockett, I've realized that a dine-in establishment does NOT have to smell/look like Southern seafood... sure, the food may be good, but the experience of getting my food is enough to deter me from ever going back. :-\ maybe it needs to douche. the NY Times article on Crawfish Shack has Southern Seafood in it's slideshow and calls it "Southern Seafood, a seafood market and counter service café on Lawrenceville Highway in Decatur, Ga., draws a diverse crowd for Alabama-harvested shrimp and crawfish." I went to southern seafood yesterday to see if they had live crawfish yet (versus frozen crawfish). They told me no and that they would have it tomorrow. I called this morning to see if the live crawfish were in and the man told me yes. Got there at 4 pm today to buy the fresh (not frozen) crawfish that they had already cooked. Brought it home and it's cooked frozen crawfish. These people are liars. He could have simply told me that they didn't have any live, fresh ones in yet and that would have been the end of it. But instead lied to me and told me it was fresh, live never frozen crawfish. You can easily tell the difference between fresh and frozen crawfish. Never trusting these shady people again. The food was surprisingly really good. I don't usually buy seafood unless I can get it fresh or live. They were out of live crawfish for a settled for the crawfish they had already cook & all I can say is WOW. I'm big on flavor as I feel it can make or break any dish. The crawfish were spicy but not too spicy where you cant enjoy them. The price was even better, 2 pounds of crawfish was less then $15 so I ordered a total of 4 pounds. You can pick the size shrimp you prefer and they will peel them, take the head off & cook them for you. I gave this place more than enough chances but after last night, this was my last. The crawfish I got yesterday was absolutely terrible. They were very small and over cooked so bad that when I tried to pull out the tail meat they all fell apart. Needless to say I didn't get much meat out of the 2.5 pounds I ordered.
