Visiting from Minnesota. We had lunch here. Casual atmosphere, order at counter and food is delivered to table. Nice menu. Had a club sandwich with the jalapeño cheddar muffins. Great sandwich and I thought the muffins were very good. My wife had the shrimp and grits which were very good. A couple of people at our table had the burgers which looked very good. Very friendly people who explained the menu options since it was our first time in. You place your order at the counter, find yourself a place to sit and they bring you your food. Interior was simple but clean and even though it was pretty busy, we didn't have a problem finding a seat. I got a bacon wrapped pork rib with collard greens and fries - the fries were battered or something which made them nice and crispy on outside and soft inside. Perfect. Collard greens came with some sort of spicy sweet sauce that I really want to buy by the bottle. Super delicious. Pork rib was very tender and not too fatty. Hubby got the basic breakfast plate - eggs, biscuit, cheese grits and smoked bologna. He said everything was yummy. Was a shame we missed out on the days sausage gravy. They gave us a coffee refill to go which was very cool. The only thing I would personally wish for would be a fountain drink instead of the canned sodas. Southern Spoon has been one of our favorite food trucks for years now and we were always pumped when we found them at an event or a local brewery. We were so excited that they finally got a regular restaurant and we visited in mid Dec. The food and service is just as good as it's always been and that's a great thing. My wife and I both got the shrimp and grits and it was very flavorful and super creamy (and I usually don't care for grits). We've also had their chicken and waffles in the past (my go to as they make sweet potato waffles that are divine), banana pudding, and a beef wellington sandwich, which was amazing. They have all those items on the menu here (except for the welly sandwich) and they may be bringing that one back in the future for a special. Having dined at the southern spoon food truck in the past I was excited to try their brick & mortar location for lunch while in the Smyrna area. Nothing beats the "I just paid a massive tax bill" blues like a good lunch, I arrived at 11:20 just ahead of a lunch rush consisting of a group of more than 15 women who seemed to be locals an familiar with the place. I placed my order at the counter took my number & found a table. Within about 10 mins an employee brought my food to my table. I went with the classic club (comes with fries) & a side of Mac & cheese. These were two featured items in other reviews & I wanted to check them out. The club was loaded up with ingredients & very good. I only finished half & took the rest to go. Excellent bread on this. The mac & cheese was good & you can tell they make the cheese sauce from scratch. Just needed a dash of black pepper & it was perfect. The fries were honestly my favorite parts they had Parmesan on them & were perfectly breaded & tasty. No ketchup required. I could have easily eaten a whole plate of those & nothing else. Once again the Yelp community did me a solid! We found this cute hole in the wall breakfast/ brunch place and it was good! The restaurant is open, clean, and bright. And- it was quiet enough we could converse and not feel drawn into conversations around us. You can tell this is a place made for hanging out and connecting as many around us appeared to be doing. They even had a sitting area and games and lots of seating options. The service was good too - they are friendly and kind. It took us a bit to decide as the menu had a lot of options. Our last meal in Tennessee before heading to the airport at the end of our vacation. However, the biscuit is one of the best I've had at a restaurant in a long time! The bacon was crispy as ordered, the egg was well made and the cheese was almost dripping from the biscuit. Never understood how anyone in Tennessee could mess up sweet tea. Brewed fresh coffee and then they let sit on counter until we went to get it. Had to ask for napkins, and two staff had to find them. Really?? Service at best was mediocre, counter order and no check by staff after delivering meal so I did not see reason to leave any tip. Never like leaving tip at counter when you don't know what kind of service you get. Or did we get lousy service because I did not add tip at the counter ??? Will not return. Poorest service and food in a very long time. I would have excused it as maybe a one time thing but it has happened twice now. I went and sent them a message didn't want to do a review and bring everything to light on social media. We had 8 orders from work but called them in and they had an hour to get ready almost. The food was cold, raw and they were out of several things on the menu? I had pictures of the food and talked with the owner. Crystal was very apologetic and said she has had issues with staff and wanted to make it right she was refunding the orders. I didn't ask for that but she insisted so gave her the names and NEVER heard anything else and you guessed it she didn't refund the money. Why say it and not do it?
