Kane Estes, DBA - River Construction, LLC, was hired to build a fence, 3-sided, one side double…read morefaced, one single sided and 3 gates at entry points along with it being and painted/stain. I hired Kane because he told me "He was a Veteran and said he has 5 years' experience and newly starting out with his own business, he builds maybe 100 fences a year". Kane collected $3,000.00 on May 13th, 2022, to purchase materials and store until the backyard was properly cleared of foliage. Work was later scheduled to begin Monday, June 13th, well, that did not happen, Kane spent much of the day getting materials that he said he was buying a month ago (Kane left the material/trailer in the street at my home). Now it's Tuesday morning and his "crew of 3" showed up @ 0830hrs, Kane was late, they all worked until 1100hrs (2 1/2 hrs), we went over the scope of the job. Wednesday they worked @ 3 1/2 hrs, Thursday worked @ 4 hrs, Friday worked @ 4 1/2 hrs,. And the following week was about the same working a few hours a day (not including the many cigarette breaks because they were exhausted). Now in the contract, it states in Performance, "if Steven Van Dyke is displeased with the performance of River Construction, LLC, Steven Van Dyke MUST alert River Construction, LLC of any issues prior to completion and payment". WELL, I most assuredly pointed out many production errors and Kane rightfully agreed with me that "HE WOULD HAD MENTIONED THE SAME THINGS IF IT WERE HIS FENCE BEING BUILT". Well, why didn't he just build it like it was his fence? I told him his crew is not paying "ATTENTION TO DETAIL" and getting sloppy. There are pickets mounted on an angle, hinges mounted on the gates "backward" and the hinge screw lags not secured into the 2x4's and 4x4's. The gate latches were mounted with the locks on the outside and when mounting the gate hardware, they screwed the lags in on an angle and really marred/scratched up the otherwise nice-looking hinges etc. When I texted Kane about the poor workmanship and the need to get this job completed (it's already almost a month trying to get this fence done) he would not respond back and instead terminated the contract on Friday, July 8th, 2022. Stating that they have "gone above and beyond to make me happy". If they just did a professional job and paid attention to detail, I would not have had to follow up on simple mistakes that they should never had made. He further stated that " I thought I was hiring a "contractor" that knew his business and had professional crews that could work a full day, the fence should have taken less than a week, a month later I still need gate lock and hinges and painting done, gates don't open easy either. I forgot to mention, I told Kane my fence had to be a standalone fence, not connected to my neighbor's fence because he is selling his home. Well, they took it upon themselves to connect my fence to my neighbors causing the SHERIFF's department to be called to my home, what an embarrassing situation in front of my neighbors. I'm a disabled Army Veteran and could not walk up the hill in my yard to see what Kane's crew did, I had to find out the hard way. Kane's an Army Veteran and this is how he treats other Veteran's knowing that I'm 100% disabled and I certainly cannot fix the mess he left me, what a shame.
