When I crashed my motorcycle a little outside of Lowman, Nick, the owner, passed by and literally refused to leave me sitting on the side of the road. He doubled back and dropped me off at the hotel where Jess patched me up and fed me. Absolutely incredible people, and I am so so so thankful for their kindness. They let me hang out in the restaurant on the patio for a couple hours while my ride came up, and the food was delicious, service was incredible, and scenery was breathtaking. What a fantastic surprise to find the Southfork open. We were super happy we turned around to check it out. The Good What a pleasant experience. We were looking to stop for just a drink and relax a little. Nick invited us down to the bar area where we had some drinks and good conversation about the history of the Southfork and their plans for the upcoming season and longer term plans. Lots going on with an ice skating rink, ATV, bicycle rentals and the offer to take riders to nearby summits for a ride down. We plan to return when we can spend the weekend and just relax. Was camping near Lowman and decided to stay an extra day so was looking for some things to do and remembered driving by Southfork the day before. Stopped by and were greeted by Nick and Robin who are awesome people. Robin showed us a nearby trail on a side by side (couldn't rent cause of roads/trails being closed) and also met Oscar their incredibly friendly chef who Robin introduced us to cause he's from same country my girlfriend is. Nick gave us fly fishing gear for the day (brought them back and wouldn't let us pay - said "just happy to make friends"). Incredible property, services offered, guidance for things to do in the area, and people running the business. Plan to come back many more times and stay here or come by while camping. We decided to stay at South Fork Lodge for the Labor Day Weekend 2025 coming up from Caldwell and it's been a blast. Very laid back atmosphere and the food served at the lodge has been great. Nick, the new owner, has been a great host and he's always interacting with the guests. Anything you need and he's on it. We decided to rent the four seat Polaris and it was a blast! Goin up to the Lost Lake trail head. He let us put up a tent in the field behind the lodge and then renting a room on South Fork Payette. We will definitely be back. Best 5 day getaway with childhood friends. We stayed in A Frames and absolutely loved them. Beautiful View and everything was new. Full kitchen with large fridge. Bathrooms in amazing condition and everything cleaned daily with turndown service by staff. Fly fishing unsurpassed with experienced helpful guides for all level of expertise. Food was absolutely delicious and as good as any high level Manhattan restaurant that I have been to. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and always with a smile. Stopped here on a whim for lunch and what a great stop it was. The Southfork burger was cooked to perfection and I loved the blue cheese spread they put on it. The house made coleslaw was outstanding as well. For desert, a piece of huckleberry cheesecake, topped things off. Marla, one of the waitresses, makes the deserts, and a stop here is worth it just for desert. Kim was our waitress and she was outstanding. Friendly and attentive would describe her well. In addition to food there are cabins and a lodge as well. These are set up well for motorcyclists if you happen to be riding in the area. read more

This is my second visit here. My first visit was after our Kayaking trip, we caught some great music on the lower level - Highway 21 band, they were great! After a beautiful rafting trip, I stopped by today for a cold beer. Marla, my server, recommended the "Mack & Jack's African Amber Ale," made in Washington; it is wonderful! Marla is so sweet! Overall, this was a good choice. This is coming from somebody who usually spends more on hotels. The people were nice and the room was comfortably clean, especially during COVID. We were less than 10 minutes to the Kirkham Hot Springs which was nice to get cleaned up in our cabin after a soak. Pretty area in the mountains and near a river. Pros: Updated throughout. We got water bottles quickly after requesting. The fake leather couches felt much cleaner than the standard upholstery. The in room fire was nice. Good rates. Clean. Cons: Minor maintenance needs like pictures needed to be moved to match furniture location and shower rod was getting rusty. Water filtration system wasn't working. Snow path to cabin was super narrow making it hard to pack in luggage. The berm from the snow plow wasn't shoveled either. On-site food is nice but definitely bar food; more variety of fresh food would have been nice. read more

We had the shrimp stir fry and a bowl of soup split pea ham all made from scratch I will be going back in September with 70 of my best friends. Damn...Bad experience here. This place is usually understaffed, but it has been bearable . This weekend, a group of my friends and I rode our motorcycles through Lowman. We decided to stop for a beer, and a snack. We all walked down to the bar area (14 of us). We waited, and waited. I finally went upstairs, and was notified they were short handed, but would be right down. Another 15 minutes went by and the guys were getting restless. I went upstairs again, and was then notified it would be an hour till he had someone to serve us......Awesome. Obviously we left, and headed to Idaho City. This is such a cool place, but the management needs to up its game if it wants to stay open. read more

Our family of five enjoyed our meal very much. The food was hot and fresh. The nachos and burgers got rave reviews. The server was very friendly though she was manning the front counter as well as the restaurant. There was only one chef, so the food took a little bit to get to us, but not unreasonable at all, and worth the wait. Would have liked a few more pie options, they only had key lime. This place was such a welcome sight after spending a few days camping along the Idaho Discover Route. When we arrived it was completely empty with remnants of what looked like a large party's lunch on one of the tables. The server sat us and took our orders, and then we waited. And waited. We heard people come in and go, checking in at the hotel. We heard our server's voice at the bell desk, on the phone, in the kitchen. We also heard our food dying on the grill back there. Sizzling away... It's then that we realized that this lone woman was the only person working there. She was checking in hotel guests, clearing tables, answering phones and cooking our food?! And she managed to smile throughout. After waiting for almost a half hour for our food, it showed up. Half expecting some dry burnt burgers and overdone fries I was really pleasantly surprised to find that everything was cooked well and was delicious. Pretty average fair for a hotel restaurant, but man did it hit the spot after days of camp cookin'. I'd give the place five stars just because our server/host/busboy/chef worked so hard to get everything done, and she made the best of it, but I'm dropping it to four because these owners need to get her some help or GIVE HER A RAISE! I don't know what she gets paid but I guarantee she's worth more. read more

I had a great stay here! The staff is super nice and chill people. The bed was veryyyy comfy and everything was clean. The room we stayed in was a suite. I was a bit shocked that even though it was $160 there was no fridge or TV and the "suite" just had kinda a weird extra room with a couch. I'm sure the cheaper ones are more worth the money if they are available. Their coffee in the room is actually kinda bomb for just being keurig-style. Overall, great stay! Don't let 4 stars scare you, I'd recommend going here!! Plus it's right on the water. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch and got turned away. The dingbat waitress first said there will be a 10 minute wait to be seated. I said no problem. Then she came back when there were several more couples waiting and she barked, "45 minute wait ". I asked really? She said yep. I looked around and saw three tables with customers and decided to leave. This is the only place to eat in Lowman which is about 71 miles from Boise. Unfortunately we didn't pack a picnic so we went without any food until we could make it back to Horseshoe Bend. So for us that was no food from 10:30am to 5:00pm. Not sure what's going on at the lodge but they should just close up and walk home. We were considering staying the night but they were unable to accommodate any guests. No food, no lodging, they should just shut the door so we all know there's no service options. I wish the owners were there so they can see how these clowns are running their business into the ground. I just wanted a place to spend some money. Sheesh! read more

We stopped in for late lunch on our way home from camping yesterday. The hostess/what appeared to be the owner was one of the rudest people we have experienced.  We were obviously a bother to her...she refused to acknowledge us, even as we ordered, unless it was to make short, rude comments back to us.  Our two families spent almost $100 on food, and we were the only people there. You would think if they want to gain more business they would treat their customers better. We will not be back. So unfortunate, because this place has so much potential. read more

My husband & I loved Southfork Lodge! We rented a car in Boise and made a circle around the state staying in one of the cabins the first few nights. Our cabin was quiet, cozy, super clean, well appointed, and comfortable. The shower offered great water pressure, blow dryer attached to wall and a really nice touch was the Culligan water purifier which was great for filling up our water bottles. A well constructed firepit was located on the grounds near the corn hole and horseshoe games. A grill was also on site but we did not utilize.The internet worked great dispite the remote location. We were aware that there was no TV but why would you want to watch TV when you could sit out on your front porch with a glass of wine and watch the wildlife and scenery?? This is a real sportmen's paradise as well, offering great hunting and fishing. If you are an outdoors person, horse back riding, ATV trails, etc. are in abundance. OR, if you just want to kick back, read a book and listen to the "babbling brook" (like me) this is the place for you! The owners sent an email explaining the restaurant was temporarily closed and offered suggestions on places to eat. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to return for a few nights at the end of our trip. Please give this place a try as I am sure it will not disappoint! read more

So where to start? First visit 3 years ago great service, breakfast everything. 2-5 visits were unbearable. First waitress pretty much refused to serve us because we came from the bar and said she was sick of drunks even though we had one drink. Really. The next day we tried the breakfast because we thought there would be different staff same bitch! WTF! We love this location it is so pretty however everyone who works here has issues including the owners rude ass wife who clearly doesn't want this business to succeed. Such a waste. I really, really struggled between rating this 2 or 3 stars. But I went with 3 because I think the people are well intentioned, and the place is beautiful and in a nice setting. HOWEVER, you could be serving up gold plated heaven, but if your operations are broken then it does not matter, business will suffer, and people will find alternatives. Problem #1: I lost my key somehow, the first night, and we got back to the hotel late that night around 10:30 PM, and the front desk was closed. So that means we are locked out and on the street? There is no cell service so I could not call them. We walked around the property for 15-20 minutes, aimlessly, thinking about what to do. We thought about breaking a window to get in. I then somehow got on WiFi (more on that later) and was able to make a Skype call, called them and got voice mail (alarming)!, but someone eventually got the message, and one of the owners eventually unlocked the door for us and we got a spare key. Otherwise....we'd be sleeping in the car? Or breaking and entering? Problem #2: The WiFi was not working for us for 99.99% of the trip, we could not get either of our cell phones or either of our laptops online, except thankfully for the 5 minutes I was able to get on WiFi our first night when we lost our key and were locked out. The rest of the trip we simply could not get online. BIG PROBLEM. While I was hear to relax and escape, I had a call with my CEO planned, a bit of important work to do, and emails to return. Problem #3: the response from the manager to the lack of WiFi was idiotic. She said, "Our computers are all online, not sure why yours are not. Oh well, its the mountains, you know how that goes. Nothing we can do, sorry." No, I am the one who was sorry, for choosing to stay here. First of all, there is something you can do. You can: 1. call the internet service provider's tech support and ask why some people can get online and others cannot, and ask them to fix it. 2. reboot the router and hope that resets things so that we can also get online. 3. offer to have us use your work computers which are online to perform some critical tasks, and offer for us to use your land lines so I can call my CEO on time. We ended up driving up the road to ANOTHER MOTEL that had WiFi, which was working, and paid for a SECOND ROOM just to use their WiFi! So we drove 15 minutes up the road when we needed to get online or make a call, and we went back to Southfork to sleep. Not ideal. Problem #4: breakfast does not start until 9 AM? That may as well be no breakfast for a lot of people. I am up at 5 or 6 AM and starving by 7-8 AM. And when your in this setting, aren't you out the door and on a hike or fishing early anyway? So we had ZERO breakfast here each morning, which we paid for, and instead ate elsewhere each morning. FAIL. Don't advertise WiFi if it does not work, it is 2017, WiFi should be bulletproof everywhere! How was it working up the road, but not here at Southfork? Oh yeah, I forgot, "it's the mountains, you know how that goes!" But the place up the road was "in the mountains"...how did they manage to get their WiFi to work "in the mountains"?? Don't advertise breakfast and then make it so late that some people can't wait for it. On a positive note the bedding was really nice, the room was clean and new with nice furniture, and the grounds were beautiful. I hope they evolve and do better. Not sure I'll go back because the bad taste they left in my mouth is pretty bad. But I wish them well going forward. The owners and the staff at least seem to really care, and hopefully they'll see these complaints and make things better for people who choose to go there in the future. read more

But if you want to relax, with friendly staff to serve you, stay in luxurious, clean, cozy rooms, and watch the Payette river rush to the rapids, do a little wildlife and bird watching, this is your place. This is a family owned and operated business. They personally make sure their guests are comfortable and satisfied. Your meals will not be served in a rush, so don't expect fast food. Sit back and enjoy your coffee or a cold drink. The food is worth the wait! read more

Highly recommend! Great customer service, large portions, clean rooms. Stayed here for a friend's romantic mountain wedding. Although the valley is gorgeous, the staff are the highlight of this review. The husband and wife owners clearly care about you having a quality time. It's just the two of them running the business- you can see the love and sweat they put into it. One of the staff members, Kim, was adorable and went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. We needed a place to stop and rest from a long day of driving. We decided to pull into this remote spot and ended up having a decent meal and a nice visit with the server. Our lady server was originally from Minnesota where we are from. Engaged in some pleasant conversation and she ended up giving us a travel tip that saved us some time and gave us a much more scenic route to the Boise area. If you're looking for a place to rest and get some local information this is the spot for you. read more

We stayed here twice. Both times in winter which just added to beauty. What I love is the location close to be just 90 minutes from home yet feels like way up in the mountains. The best parts are a) the beds are super comfortable and b) the people are amazingly nice. Beth and Chris make you feel like long lost friends. Also being right on the river in winter is beautiful!!! I am new to Idaho. Yesterday a friend drove me from Star on an exploratory day trip. As we drove along highway 21, I could see the red roof tops of South Fork Lodge. I was mesmerized by its picturesque setting and inviting appearance from the road and asked that we stop. Having just had lunch in Idaho City we each only had tap beer (which by the way was perfect). Based on its pristine and organized state I was amazed to hear that this establishment recently reopened under new ownership after having been closed for several years.The atmosphere of the restaurant with large full wrap around windows that provide a striking full view of the grounds and lodging accommodations with both mountain and or river views made me want to linger. There is a full service bar and outside patio. A glance of the menu presented a good selection of items to chose from. The décor is rustic and strikingly spiffy. The dining area is spacious, with vaulted ceilings, well furnished and clean. I found this establishment and the staff to be pleasant and inviting. The proprietors are energetic, attentive and informative regarding their vision and plans for South Fork Lodge. I look forward to an opportunity to return and experience the overnight accommodations and restaurant. read more

Came in to buy two cups of coffee, the waitress gave us cups, the coffee was lukewarm. Then, she gave us a hard time because the coffee was $3.50 and below the $5 minimum. I indicated that I would give $1.50 tip, however, she said she couldn't do that....after we already poured our lukewarm coffee. She was also pretty rude during the entire exchange. I have been a Boise County resident for decades and this is one local business I won't be back to for a while until they consider removing the $5 minimum on cc charges, or be reasonable in allowing me to tip the waitress to make up the difference. read more

We have eaten here many times as the food is usually good but we seem to find that the service consistently lacks. We went in yesterday and wanted some food and drinks to go. We got part of our order then was refused to be served the rest (after we ordered the first part) because she was too busy to make it. Didn't say I apologize I have a catering event and it may take ten more minutes, simply refused to make our complete order. Being locals we want to support local but won't support the owner when she rudely refuses to serve us a complete order simply because she is too busy even though the restaurant sign said open. The issue is not that we did not get our food it's the poor customer service attitude that we received. read more
