For starters I've never left a yelp review for any business I've been to. I'm in the Syracuse area for the second time this year and my last time here I googled local card shops and couldn't find any. This time I tried again and came across Southpaw with very few reviews but gave it a shot. I have to say, this place deserves 10,000 reviews. The owner said they've been open for 30 years and you get that feeling when you're in there. It was a bit busy when I went in, there were 3 or 4 other customers and everyone seemed to know the owner when I stopped in. Lots of chit chat and random conversation and laughs. It was a very relaxing feeling being in the shop. As I browsed the selection of boxes and packs I saw lots of selection, all of which was equal or lower priced to what I'm used to seeing online. I'm guessing they price match extremely well. They also have a full wall of every supply you could possibly need to protect your cards. It would be nice to see more singles, but their selection of wax is huge. I was actually taken aback by how much they had. Extremely nice and knowledgeable workers, I had questions about some products and they knew everything I asked about. I was even led towards some things and away from others, not in a scammy way but in the sense that they really knew what I would enjoy the most given what I told them. They just flat out, I don't know how else to say it, know EXACTLY what they're doing and what is best for the customer if you tell them your interests. They bounced around from customer to customer and helped everyone get what they needed. They were selling one guy supplies, another guy wax boxes, buying someone's cards, and helping me look around. Both guys working simultaneously making sure everyone was all set. They know when to let you browse and when to jump in to help, we've all been places where workers either bother us nonstop or never seem to help, this isn't that type of place. Nobody paid sticker price, everyone paid less than what was marked. That caught my attention and led me to buy some more cards for myself and my son if I'm being honest. Who doesn't want a deal! This is probably the best card store I've been into since I was a young kid myself. I wish I lived in Syracuse and could stop in there a few times a month, anyone in the area who doesn't, you're missing out big time! If you see this review and are curious like myself what this place is like, give it a try, I can't imagine you'd be disappointed. This place isn't a 10/10, it's a 1000/1000. And those two guys working, I didn't catch their names or maybe I'm not remembering, ya can't beat them. I saw some comments about the owner being rude or creepy, these guys are class acts. Makes me wonder what kind of people left those reviews. My wife and young son were with me and both loved them, and convinced me to write a review. Like I said I've never gotten on yelp before after any positive or negative experience, but this one was strongly deserved. I can't wait to go back, there's nothing that could have made my families experience better. A+ guys thanks so much for everything. read more
