This review is for a spay appointment we had in January, 2021. What a way to start the new year! First, the new building! It looks so beautiful from the outside. Clean, well-designed, and you can tell that it is them from the enormous dog statue inside! :) For pandemic spay appointments, you call in and reserve a spot on the calendar when they open the schedule for new bookings. I had to wait over an hour on the phone, but that is because they were closed for almost 2 months, I believe, because of the move. The phone staff were incredibly patient and kind. We drove up on the day of Rosencrantz's appointment, as directed. We waited in line while staff went car to car and ascertained who we were, and put an identifier on our car under the windshield wiper. We filled out the paperwork. Note: Everyone must be masked, and the cat had to be in a hard-sided carrier, per their emailed instructions. The staff members were masked and I felt safe in conversing with them. Then your car gets to the front of the line, and you hand over the carrier. Poor Rosencrantz was so unsure of what was going on! But I digress. At 4-4:30, you drive back and wait in line to pick up your pet. When we were able to get R, the staff member delivering her was very kind and patient with his time, while we asked questions and he gave specific directions. One thing that would have been good to put on the original directions is to quarantine them to a small room for a while, once you get home, and to have fresh litter. Upon reflection, that makes TOTAL sense, but sometimes we don't think ahead. The price was SO reasonable: $40 for a spay, and $20 for 2 vaccines. That price is much appreciated. It is able to be so low because of grants and other funding (thank you!). In all of our interactions with staff, everyone was SO kind and caring. I never felt rushed or had an unanswered question. Highly recommended!

I didn't think the people in the parking lot waiting for the place to open were very polite. I was the 2nd car in the lot but other people ran in front of me to check in so I became #4 (not the fault of the Humane Society!). After you check in you go get your dog, but you have to wait until the person in front of you has checked their dog in before you go. Which was kind of a problem in the freezing cold. Especially since I didn't want to lose my spot again to everyone else that was jumpy! My dog was fine after the surgery. She was drugged up so very lethargic but overall everything with the surgery went well. The staff was very nice and friendly. They were talking to the dogs and the people. I wish they would just have a better system to drop off that could be less of a run for it method!

That's when I found Kalamazoo Animal Rescue and this beautiful young Domestic Short-haired black & white Tuxedo polydactyl female. We were put in touch with Suzanne A. Who turned out to be a fantastic representative of KAR. I appreciated the seriousness of the interview questions. When my wife & I met Elizabeth it was an instant connection. You can tell the excellent care "Lizzie" received as a foster cat in the care of Suzanne. It's been close to 9 months now since we adopted Elizabeth. What joy, love & happiness Lizzie has brought into our home. She has become the center of attention. I have shook up alot of family & friends who now have to think of me as that "Cat Dude". Rather than cancel our trip over the 4th of July, my wife and I called Dog Days Kalamazoo. Michael was attentive to Remy's needs. He left a log of every visit. Made notes of anything that may be usual. Michael even took extra steps such as bringing in the mail and taking out the trash. Every day we got a text with a picture of Remy from Michael. Those picture texts help relieve any anxiety we had about leaving Remy. We saw pictures of Remy eating (our biggest concern), and looking happy in general. All of this service for the same cost as I would expect anyone to to tip a neighbor or friend for less work. Dog Days Kalamazoo is insured and bonded. We had Michael keep our key because we will be using him again.

Nothing but problems with this place…read more My first incident with this place was when my dog had to go to the animal hospital in Kalamazoo and have surgery on his paw. I was supposed to go into my regular vet (the VCA Marshall) every week to get it re-wrapped and the splint repositioned. Every single time I did this, I had to go to the animal hospital in Kalamazoo within hours, because the VCA vet had positioned it incorrectly and caused my pup severe discomfort. Even after talking to the surgeon from the actual animal hospital over the phone to make sure he got it correctly, he still was incompetent. My most recent interaction was that my dog had surgery at the VCA vet and while I was at work, the vet called I was unable to leave the meeting in time to answer the call. I called back to the reception and she put me on hold. After waiting for so long, I called back and was then put on hold again. Finally someone answered the phone and could not tell me who called, the status of his surgery, or when I could come pick him up. I was very frustrated and told the receptionist that they were wasting my time by putting me on hold multiple times, and not having any information. Common sense would have been to see which vet was performing the surgery and see if they were out of surgery. In my opinion, that is common sense. So I was then told that they had no information and that they would call me back as soon as they found out. I did not ever receive a call. Three hours later I showed up to pick up my dog and he was not ready so I had to wait another hour to pick him up. The vet did leave a message. However, I explained to the receptionist that I was in a meeting and I did not get very good service. Therefore, I did not have a voicemail come through at this point. In the voicemail, the vet said to call the reception and have them send my call to him to talk to me. How is this possible when they have no idea what was going on? When I went in days later to get my dogs, tail re-bandaged, the vet decided he was going to argue with me about what had happened. I then told him that I will not argue about the situation. Because I have had such a horrible interactions with every single one of these people I am at my breaking point, and I will not ever take my animals to this vet again. Even the vet at the animal hospital said the VCA is incompetent and has no clue what they are doing and told me not to go back. I should have listened. I would also like to add that had the vet at the VCA (Dr. Randy) not argued with me about the situation I would not be writing this review. But because he decided he was going to argue with me I decided I had to. Don't ever argue with a customer after they've had a bad experience. Especially in a situation where you said yourself "I wasn't there so I don't know".
