Cold, Disrespectful, Nasty and Completely Unprofessional We brought our dog to Southside Veterinary Clinic for what became an end-of-life visit. This was one of the most emotionally painful moments of our lives, and the way this clinic handled it was cold, careless, and deeply unprofessional. The space is extremely small and offers no privacy. While we were visibly crying and trying to process what was happening, doors were opening, people were walking in and out, and staff members moved around as if nothing significant was happening. There was no attempt to provide a private, respectful environment. No sensitivity. No acknowledgment of the gravity of the situation. This alone shows a serious lack of training and basic empathy. Afterward, we paid for cremation services and were told we would be contacted. Weeks passed with absolutely no communication -- no phone call, no email, no update. We were left waiting with no idea what was going on. When I finally called to follow up, I was met with a series of excuses: that they had already contacted us, that they had emailed us, and then that they had the wrong email address. These explanations contradicted each other. Later that same day, they suddenly managed to send information to the very email they claimed they could not reach before. This felt dishonest and careless, especially given the emotional weight of the situation. The phone interaction itself was unacceptable. One staff member was defensive and dismissive, and when another person took over the call, the tone was openly rude. When I went in person and asked to speak with the doctor, I was brushed off and told everything would be sent by email instead. The message was clear: they were not interested in addressing concerns or taking responsibility. After reading other reviews, it is obvious this is not an isolated experience. Multiple people describe similarly poor handling of end-of-life situations. That is alarming. A veterinary clinic should be a place of compassion, dignity, and professionalism -- especially when families are saying goodbye to a loved one. This clinic consistently fails at that. There is a difference between being inexpensive and being careless. This clinic may offer lower prices, but the quality of care, communication, and human compassion reflects that. When it comes to moments like this, the cost is not measured in money -- it is measured in how you are treated when you are at your most vulnerable. If you truly care about your pet and expect to be treated with basic respect during one of the hardest days of your life, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere and stay away from nasty people with nasty attitudes that they know how to take your money, but not responsibility. read more

My mom always makes me the villain with her dog when I am home, so when Happy stopped eating and drinking water for a couple of days I had to take her to the vet to see what was going on. The staff was very kind and caring and the doctor took care of my furry sister and had feeling much better when I picked her up. They absolutely love Happy and treat her like she is their own. read more

I took my little dog Blackie over there after he was attacked by a pitbull. The doctor did the best that she could, and she got blackie back on the road to recovery. later on I got chocolate and I've had Skyler for quite a while. I took Skyler over to get all of her shots the other day and I had to take chocolate because she was throwing up and I could not understand why so they gave her a shot in the butt to stop her from throwing up and sent us home with some pills. This morning I got up and chocolate had diarrhea so bad that when she went to the bathroom, it literally covered up the whole puppy pad. I freaked out. I did not know what to do. I was googling. Can I give my dog Pepto-Bismol, maybe some Imodium A.D., and all of them told me to check with my vet so when I called Southside Veterinarian Clinic Lindsey responded with quickness and told me to go ahead and bring her over here if they would give her some medicine for her diarrhea. And the top it off I can't get her to eat not sure why but they gave me some prednisone that is to help her to eat and they gave me something else and four little syringes seven units but I've gotta give her down once a day for the four days and hopefully she will be back to her normally good self I would say, Southside animal veterinarian hospital has saved my dog more times than One. I would never go to any other vet when I found them I was looking for somebody to check out chocolate for her throwing up and while we were there, we went ahead and got Skyler updated on all of her shots so yes, I would definitely recommend them. Sam is one of the best she works the front desk. She always has us checked in before we get there and Lindsay is I guess one of the technicians in the back but all I know is when I sent her a text this morning she was real fast to text me back. She told me to come on over with them and get some medicine for chocolate and I did and as I was walking out, Lindsay came out the door and said bring chocolate back in the (Doc) wants to give her some dewormer and I was like OK awesome and she gave that to us on the house. We did not even have to pay for it. I love that place and not because that I didn't have to pay for the dewormer just because they are the best. Don't come here if you really care about your dog. Just for the visit it's 89, and the doctor won't even check your dog thoroughly and will still charge you. Visit was so pointless, I could've diagnosed my dog my self if that was the case. read more

One of our kitties was having trouble breathing so we brought her in as a walk-in. The staff was friendly and helpful. They were very caring and gentle with her during the initial exam. They talked to her and even got a matted in clump of fluff out of her fur. The vet took her in the back to give our kitty some oxygen and do a more thorough exam. Our kitty wouldn't take the oxygen, she knew it was her time. We weren't charged for the oxygen. Our sweet 13 year old kitty passed shortly afterwards on her own :'( The vet and techs were very supportive and we could see how much they cared. They did all that they could to make sure our kitty was comfortable and looked after. It was just her time. heartbroken* read more

I went in after finding this clinic on the USDA website looking to get a reasonably priced health certificate issued for travel and they delivered!! Dr. Dozier and her team made us feel extremely welcomed. She took her time to throughly examine my pet to make sure everything was okay. Kelly at the front desk was extremely kind and did a great job following up with me on my requests. *My pet is not a established patient at this clinic so I am only reviewing based on one generic examination visit but I would totally recommend them.* Please note that their hours of operation vary and this is a walk-in clinic. They may do appointments for certain procedures though since I noticed some people had appointments (I would call to verify). read more

The reason that I am scoring then so low is because of the fact that they allowed my 9 month old kitten to die right in the office because I only had a hundred dollars to pay for the visit. Two weeks earlier, I spent 130 and nothing they gave me worked. The doctor that I saw was crass and came off as non-caring. Money seems to be some of the peoples concern more than saving a life. On the other hand, I had to go back with a 2 month kitten recently. I got a different Doctor this time. She made me feel very good about this visit. I dont have much of a choice of where I go because I am low-income and have no transportation. I just know never to go in the morning but instead after 2pm. So I took my little dog to a Veterinary Clinic that's inside a popular pet store. The vet there recommended I bathe my dog every other day to get rid of what I was pretty sure was a yeast infection. I told her that I was using a DIY shampoo that included oatmeal and coconut oil and she said that was great. After two baths my dog was so much worse. Instead of having a couple of dry spots and a weird smelling yeast smell, her entire body was dry and covered in like dandruff, scaly skin, dry! I was so pissed. Talked to a lot of people about veterinary clinics asking everybody who had a good vet that they went to and got few good replies. Checked on Yelp found this Clinic. Ok-this is a great place. The doc was great- advice was great- meds are working and my dog gets a little better every day. I am THRILLED TO THE GILLS to be able to recommend this clinic to my fellow yelpers. Furbabies are darn close to the real deal. You wouldn't wana take your kiddo to a crappy doc- or waste cash on crap that wont help your lil one. so.... Pass up that corporate entity and the big time pet store and go here instead. They were exactly what my sweet furbaby needed. Yay! read more

My family has been going to Southside Vet Clinic for almost 15 years. Moving here from out of state, we tried several clinics and most treated our pets like a "number" instead of someone's valuable member of our family. A friend suggested Southside Vet Clinic and I'm so glad I listened. We finally found a Clinic that showed their love and caring for the dogs and we haven't left (even though our travel time is 1 hour to Clinic and 1 hour to home). The entire staff makes you feel special, a member of their family. The medical care is top notch and I know that as a fact since one of our dogs has Addison Disease which wasn't caught by a veterinarian filling in for Dr Dozier, when she got back to office I took my dog back in, she ran tests and diagnosed him right away. Dr Dozier is fantastic, caring, unbelievably knowledgeable, is honest and straight forward in a kind way. This place has horrible customer service. This place has gone down hill ever since the new ownership. I had to put my 14-year-old dog down and was told they would call me when his ashes were in, they never called. I finally called today and was told he had been there since Monday!!! When I asked why they haven't called me i was told "THEY'VE BEEN TO BUSY TO CALL! I've been there three times in the last three months and there's always someone new at the front desk that is not quite sure what they're doing yet. So it's always a struggle to get out. The day I put my dog down it took the front desk guy over 20 minutes to get us checked out. The entire thing was a horrible experience. Another thing.... They open back up from lunch at 3 o'clock so I was first in line but behind me there was at least 8 to 10 people waiting in with there fur babies. Once they opened they advise everyone that she was backed up on surgeries and would not be seeing any more patients that day. Why was there not a note on the door letting people know that instead of letting clients wait in line outside in the July heat! read more

Do not trust your animals with this staff. I literally took my sick kitten from the attendant after she pulled my scared girl from her carrier by the scruff of her neck and a clump of fur came off. Didn't talk to the kitten or try to make her feel comfortable at all, but instead was quite careless. I've had great experiences with other clinics, enough to know that this is not how you treat any animal, let alone one that is sick and scared in a new place. This was AFTER I had to wait for over half an hour to be seen with no explanation or even polite, "we'll have a little bit of a wait." Also, one of the employees wasn't wearing a freaking mask, when the whole place was plastered with signs to do so. This is unacceptable. read more

I would highly recommend anyone with pets go see Dr. Dozier! She is amazing. We have been using the Southside Vet Clinic for years. Dr. Dozier took over the practice a few years ago and we couldn't be more pleased. Dr. Dozier is extremely knowledgeable , patient and truly cares about our pets as much as we do. She is very reasonably priced. When I hear what friends are paying at other clinics, I always encourage them to try Southside. Dr. Dozier wants you to be able to get treatment for your pets and does not price gouge. Her rates are reasonable and the care our animals get is amazing. We have cats and dogs and she is wonderful with both. The entire staff goes above and beyond to make sure everything is taken care of for our pets. You won't find a better vet clinic anywhere and I wouldn't trust our babies to anyone else read more

My only issue was that the consultation rooms were paper thin, so you could hear everything that was going on inside the rooms. So, I heard the following event happen: Lady brings in stray animal. Doesn't know what to do with it. Can't go indoors because it fights with her other pets. Vet advises to take the animal to the humane society "so that the responsibility doesn't fall on you." Her daughter soon comes out crying. Time passes, she comes out with no pet. Front desk says she's sorry about what happened, etc. Lady responds "it feels like it was a good deed, but it doesn't." So if the vet clinic can clear up this situation where they treated an animal like a lamp that can be easily dumped off and disposed of, that'd be great. Also, their medicines are expensive. I've gotten the same $50 antibiotic medication they gave me for $20-30 elsewhere. read more

My vet for years recently retired and since then, have had the opportunity of working with five different vets before coming here. While I liked them all okay, it feels like I've found the perfect fit here. The staff overall is super, and in my interaction with Dr. Dosier, I couldn't have been more impressed. She's obviously intent on listening closely and not only was she highly knowledgeable as to the latest & greatest drugs on the market, she showed incredible kindness and professionalism by going out of her way to track down a nearby clinic that had the specific drug she thought my dog needed when they were out of it at her clinic. (I've also seen the clinic's associate vet, Dr Warren, and found her to be the same way: very caring as well as highly skilled.) If you're looking for a knowledgable and compassionate vet--and don't need to see that vet in some fancy-dancy show place of an office--you need to check these folks out. (One of the places I went to literally had stain glass. Everybody of course gets to deck out there place the way they want to--but who do you think is paying for that?) Oh--one more thing: they don't take appointments but take pets on a first come, first served basis. Personally, it's hard for me to make appointments due to my own work schedule so this is perfect for me. read more

This vet was recommended to me by my next door neighbor and I am so glad that we used them. Dr. Dozier was very kind and thorough with our pet. We had to put our 18 year old cat to sleep and they made the experience as easy as something like that could be. We even received a card in the mail a few days later expressing their condolences. Save yourself some time and stop searching for a vet! Dr. Mehaffey and staff are fantastic at Southside Vetinary Clinic! They are incredibly kind and sweet toward the animals and their owners, as well as very knowledgeable, gentle, and thorough in the exam. The location and outside of the building doesn't seem very nice, but the inside is very nice, clean, warm, and welcoming. From my research, their pricing is average comparative to other vets, but the service is great. I felt like family during my visit. I highly recommend a visit! read more

I had been to this clinic once a couple of years ago when my normal vet was closed and I had a fine experience. Went back this week and it was the worst vet experience I've ever had. Had an urgent situation (big laceration) and my normal vet wasn't able to work me in. This clinic took me as a walk in, but I wish I had gone to the emergency clinic recommended by my vet. The exam rooms were FILTHY. Really gross. I don't think the the exam table had been cleaned between patients; I watched another patron clean it herself and saw the grime that came off onto the paper towel - dirt and pee. They don't have doors between rooms so I could hear the vet tech giving inaccurate information about FIV (I've worked in shelters with FIV cats for years). I saw the vet for maybe 90 seconds total. She looked at the cut, then took her in the back and then sent her back to me with the tech. No follow up instructions. No "what to watch for". Just felt like quick patch job and rushed out. The cut got infected so we just went to our normal vet and he was confused by the medical protocol used. I can't speak to that, I'm not a vet, but I can say the place needs a really deep clean and better bedside manner. read more

The staff here are wonderful. A year ago, I adopted a rescue kitten who was in bad shape. He had worms, his fur was falling out, his eyes were swollen shut, and he had an ear problem that affected his balance. I looked for a veterinary clinic online and saw good reviews about Southside. The staff was friendly and helpful; they diagnosed the kitten's health issues and took the time to thoroughly explain treatment options and costs. It was a pretty expensive vet bill, but they went out of their way to keep costs lower, even offering to sell me half a bottle of ear solution instead of the whole bottle. I now board my cat here every time I go out of town. They take excellent care of him. If you're looking for a shiny, modern veterinary office, Southside probably isn't for you. But if you're looking for staff who really love animals, this is a wonderful place. I'm so glad I found it. :) read more
