I recently bought a used GMC Sierra from this dealership. I knew going into the deal that the vehicle had issues; a check engine light that turned out to be a problem with the exhaust system. As part of the purchase agreement Southtown agreed to correct this issue. For the better part of a month, the vehicle bounced from mechanic to mechanic. It was eventually serviced to spec by a GMC dealership. Although I wish it had been taken to a dealer's service department to begin with, the truck was eventually sorted out. This issue incurred great expense, which Southtown reimbursed me for. They also sent me a check for the prorated amount of the time I was without the vehicle. From my experience, I can't recommend buying a vehicle with a known fault. There's too many electronic systems on modern vehicles that are both sensitive and expensive. I can tell you that if circumstances arise (that are beyond the control of the seller) that Southtown Motors will do what's in their power to make things right. read more

Do NOT purchase a vehicle from this dealership!!!!!!!! My husband purchased a truck from them, and within approximately TWO WEEKS of the purchase, we experienced a major and potentially dangerous mechanical failure. The front suspension/control arm broke, resulting in the tire/wheel coming off. This wasn't an issue that developed after months or years of ownership. This happened roughly two weeks after purchasing the truck from this dealership. When you purchase a vehicle from a dealership, you expect that, at minimum, the vehicle has been properly inspected and is safe to drive off the lot. Having a major suspension component fail this soon after purchase raises serious concerns for us about the condition of the truck at the time it was sold and what type of inspection was performed before it was offered for sale. Thankfully, this situation did not result in a serious accident or injury, because it certainly had the potential to. I understand that used vehicles can have issues and no dealership can predict every future repair. However, a significant safety-related failure within two weeks of purchase is not something I would expect after buying from a dealership. They refused to correct the issue. read more

Don't buy a car from these people. It's a crapshoot on quality of vehicles they have. They sold me a car that had major issues and won't even respond to emails. My mechanic said he sees a lot of that from people that have bought cars here and Susan Schein. Too bad yelp doesn't allow negative stars. read more

I have held off on writing this review for a few months now (we purchased a car from Scott back in February), but after yet another thing has gone wrong in this piece of junk car he sold us, I feel like I need to warn others. It seems like Southtown gets good reviews, so I don't know if we just had bad luck or what, but this car has been nothing but a money pit. A 2009 Volvo XC90. Things have gone wrong with this car that should not go wrong in a Volvo that is only approximately 7 years old! It clearly was not only NOT taken care of by the previous owner, but issues were definitely hidden when it was put on their lot (you know, all the tricks used sales lots have up their sleeves). It has been one repair after another. Not to mention the cosmetics - Scott had the leather dyed and it has not held up whatsoever. Looks AWFUL!! There's no possible way for me to list everything that has gone wrong on this car in the past 6 months, but just take this advice (PLEASE!!) : if you want to take a gamble and buy a car from this dealership, at least have it EXTREMELY well inspected by YOUR OWN reliable mechanic first. And if your gut says walk away, then WALK AWAY!! I wish we would have, but we drove so far for this vehicle and it was a yucky rainy day (hence the rushed look-over), and I ignored that gut feeling. We talked to the mechanic that had inspected it for Scott, so we hoped that would be good enough. BAD BAD move on our part. Learning lessons the hard way such as this totally stinks. Especially since we traded in a great vehicle and now have this piece of crap. I just had my heart set on a Volvo, after months of research and being highly impressed by the maker's safety standards. I wanted a safe car to put my kids in. Now I only wish I would have walked away from Southtown and found a better Volvo elsewhere. Don't make the same mistake as me!! read more
