I came in to dine with fuve of my friends to show appreciation for their unselfish charity in my community ... When we arrived , around 12:30, there was a small glob of prime rib on the buffet ... the chef recognized this and brought out some more prime rib and made the comment " I would have prepared more if I knew I was going to have this many people ... what he served me on side was dried up whet leather ... the other side was a bloody pulp ... I did not fuss because I did not want to upset my guest ... but they will not have to worry about me returning after that dining experience

We started off with the gluten free Hong Kong lettuce wraps, and I almost smacked everyone's hands as they grabbed for another one! The antelope was so tender, not dry, and the sauce wonderfully balanced the side of slaw and savory ground antelope. Delicious! Hubby got the Green Goat Sliders, kiddo got the kid's pulled pork sandwich, and I got the gluten free Crispy Chicken Sammie on a GF bun. Everything was delicious! A truly honest mistake, but if I even thought of complaining I'd hope someone would kick me right out, because everything about this meal was great! The right sandwich was so good. I love the slaw and Ruben dressing with the slightly crispy GF fried chicken patty. I like that the fried chicken wasn't heavily breaded - it kept it lighter and just enough of a crisp! I got the Greek salad as my side and WOW. I could eat that salad any day. I don't even like olives, but that salad needed them, and all of it was delicious. I loved the hummus on the bottom which was a great texture and added more substance to the salad. I could eat that salad all day every day. I don't know what feta they used, but it was soft and delightfully salty. So good. I can only imagine how good it is on their Brussel Sprouts which are also gluten free! I did snag one of my kiddo's fries which are also gluten free, and I love it when fries and crispy and brown and not overly seasoned, which these were. Tender inside and crispy outside, nice and browned and almost shoestring. Very, very good! With the great service, the lovely outdoor seating, and such delicious food, I would not hesitate driving back here to come eat again! I only wish the restaurant was a smidge bigger so more people at once could enjoy this fantastic establishment!

They do have a food truck on site and have live music some nights of the week. My pics were taken during their soup contest in February, so the trees aren't green. But it's a charming historic building surrounded by trees and lots of picnic tables to hang with friends. They have local delicious beers on tap and they do have a small wine selection, as well. I love the amber from Pint & Plow. I hear they rotate the beers, so there will always be some new to try. The wait staff is quick and friendly.

Beyond the bar there's plenty of indoor and back patio seating options, and if the weather is any sort of good I'd suggest grabbing something outside so you can take in the river view. If you're here for a beer or drink, they have a healthy selection to pick from. Beyond the regular domestic beers and mixed drinks, they feature a specialty cocktail menu of beachy libations like painkillers, Blue Mermaids, Dosaritas, pineapple rum punch, and a few others. The menu is large and offers all the fried seafood you could think of, as well as burgers, steaks, sandwiches, po-boys, and other non ocean fare. We settled on a dozen gulf oysters to start and I had one of their burgers while my wife ordered one of their salads. Everything was great! It's a beach bar stuck in the hill country, so if you're expecting fine dining this is not the place for you, but if you're craving a fried shrimp basket, po-boy, or greasy burger, you'll be fine. Service was very friendly and quick. Our waitress chatted us up on where we were from, what we should make sure to see and do while in town, and overall she did a great job making us feel welcome. Long review short, if you're looking for laid back beach vibes, there probably won't be many other choices in Kerrville than The Boat.

A group of us were staying at the Holiday Inn Express next door. We got in a little late (close to…read moremidnight) and we were looking to get into some shenanigans. Nautilus to the rescue. Not sure where they got the beach bar theme, as there is no ocean within hundreds of miles. Wishful thinking perhaps. The tables were made of surfboards, and there were loads of tiki decorations to fit the bill. The bartender said that Bud Light was on special ($2), but I figured that being in the middle of nowhere, they had to have some good deals. "What do you have in bottle?" I asked the bartender. "Import or domestic?" She asked in return. "Ummm... Import." "Well we have Dos Equis, Shiner, Corona, Land Shark..." "Ill just do the Bud Light." I interrupted. I figured that since half of the beers she had named thus far were American (one of them Texan) it might be safer just to make it easy on her. They had a stage, but no music that night. Well, aside from long lost "hits" from the 90's- a little "I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)" anyone? Didnt think so. They had an electronic dart board (one set of darts), a Fusbol and a pool table. We were able to entertain ourselves as well as the yokels, until 2 am when they closed. It was one of those places where you get- "Yer not from round here are ye?" A lot. But they were fun. I was a little worried that there might be a fight, as the attention of the two "girls" that were in the bar, were quickly diverted from said yokels, to us. Thankfully, there was no fight. I think thats because Kevin, the head hillbilly, kept falling down and had to leave. I still have Kevin's bitchin american flag lighter that he dropped during one spill. Thanks Kevin. If your in the area, check out the Beach bar. Do not make a special trip.
