We drove up to the area and found this awesome brewery that's dog friendly and has fire pits outside. Staff was warm, welcoming and attentive throughout. They tended to the drinks and even the fire pits. Cute patio area with a stage for live bands, bathrooms across the street. We watched a lovely sunset while enjoying some brews with good company we met there. Great atmosphere and service!!

    Sitting outside enjoying the breeze.

One day, while camping at Kerrville Schreiner Park, I hiked from my trailer to the river side of the park, put in the code, and entered the River Trail. I hiked all the way to the old bridge that now connects the trail on the other side of the river and dead ends on the campus of Schreiner University. I saw a nice comfortable looking area where I assumed they held functions or something. A month or two ago, some friends were camping at KSP and texted me that they had find a new place to drink beer in Kerrville. They said they were on the Schreiner University campus. I asked if there was a trailhead with a water fountain across from where they were. Turns out that was the exact spot I had seen before. DUHHH! It is called the Trailhead Beer Garden. I decided to try it out on my next visit to KSP which was just this week. I actually drove over just as it was opening at 3:00 pm. When I went in, I was the only customer. I ordered a beer and sat outside in the breeze and enjoyed it. The bar is located in a nice old Texas style building. It has some historical significance, but I forgot to ask about it. It is roomy and comfortable inside. They have four local area craft beers and about the same number of local wines on draft. The selection was very good for the beer, and I believe they change it periodically. They usually have a food truck, but I noticed that the one scheduled for that day was cancelled. Instead, they were selling awesome looking sandwiches on ciabatta bread, made with all local ingredients. I opted not to get one, because it was early, and I was planning on hiking the trail a bit after my beer. The outside is very nice. They have several tables, a stage for live music, a big circular concrete dance floor, and corn hole pits. The country music was just the right level coming from the speakers. I really enjoyed this place. I look forward to future visits when I hike to it, drink a beer or two, and hike back to KSP.

This is such a great spot to grab a beer and relax with friends/ family. It's primarily outdoors with games for kids and fire pits. We love coming here before walking along the new trail or playing a round of disc golf. People are down to earth and there are typically great local Texas beers on fraught.

Very cool place. Shame the beer is so terrible. 2 stars for the setup & ambience. Hopefully the brew will get better one of these days.

The Boat is a bar/restaurant decorated like you just walked in off the beach in Port A. There's tons of beachy island knick knacks on the walls, surf boards, life preservers, fishing pics, game fish mounts, etc. When you walk in the first thing you'll see is a half circle, some would say boat shaped, bar with plenty of regulars posted up keeping their drinks company. Beyond the bar there's plenty of indoor and back patio seating options, and if the weather is any sort of good I'd suggest grabbing something outside so you can take in the river view. If you're here for a beer or drink, they have a healthy selection to pick from. Beyond the regular domestic beers and mixed drinks, they feature a specialty cocktail menu of beachy libations like painkillers, Blue Mermaids, Dosaritas, pineapple rum punch, and a few others. The menu is large and offers all the fried seafood you could think of, as well as burgers, steaks, sandwiches, po-boys, and other non ocean fare. We settled on a dozen gulf oysters to start and I had one of their burgers while my wife ordered one of their salads. Everything was great! It's a beach bar stuck in the hill country, so if you're expecting fine dining this is not the place for you, but if you're craving a fried shrimp basket, po-boy, or greasy burger, you'll be fine. Service was very friendly and quick. Our waitress chatted us up on where we were from, what we should make sure to see and do while in town, and overall she did a great job making us feel welcome. Long review short, if you're looking for laid back beach vibes, there probably won't be many other choices in Kerrville than The Boat.

We sat outside and our waitress came up to the table with a sour face. You could say she was as cold as my friend's burger patty (which I'm told tasted like a frozen patty that hadn't been cooked long). I wish we had sat one section over and got the smiley, attentative waitress. My fish and chips on the other hand were packed with cajun flavor and nice and hot! I also tried the onion rings and they appeared fresh and homemade. I guess it depends on what you order. Maybe the seafood will just always be the better option at this spot. The bar area is full of regulars and fun characters. So I probably will give this place another chance and just steer clear of cold lady and cold burgers. I won't throw it out as an option due to one employee just yet.

Fish and chips were delicious but I was told burger seemed like a frozen patty that didn't get warmed up enough.
