Went for a Sunday lunch. Great 2 person band playing music and lots of dancers. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Great prices too. We all three chose the Rueben sandwich and it was delicious! We drove to Kerrville from San Antonio to visit the renaissance festival on opening day. While there it was suggested that we go to gravity check for lunch in order to get a good burger and beer. Upon arriving to gravity check the parking lot was fairly empty, but we were impressed with the expansive area within the restaurant. You could look out the back of the restaurant to watch barrel, racing practice and other horse riding activities, which was very nice. We were able to see ourselves, so we picked a spot with a view and we're quickly helped by our waitress. We ordered: - Dos Equis Dressed: Freshly tapped, paired well with the food - Spicy Fried Pickles: Not overly spicy but still provided a good kick and paired well with the ranch - Fried Mushrooms: Super fresh and delicious - Gator Po Boy: first time trying gator. Tasted good and had an interesting flavor to it. Was served with a Cajun remoulade sauce edict really brought some heat - Ranchers Choice Burger: very tasty! The egg was a bit overcooked (not over-easy) but was otherwise perfect I also want to note how friendly and helpful our server was. I came here for lunch today to try it out. I passed it on my way in to Kerrville for a much needed camping getaway at Kerrville Schreiner Park. That evening, I went to my usual spot and asked about this place. I learned that the former manager was now working here. I wasn't sure they had food, so I messaged them. The menu is still in the development stage, so they haven't put it online. It is about 8 miles from the park, so I won't be drinking many beers when I come here. They have about 8 beers on tap. It is a fairly well-rounded grouping. I would like to see at least one porter or stout, but this is not a place designed for craft beer enthusiasts. I ordered the Gravity Check burger with cheese and bacon. It was good. The meat was tasty and had just enough juiciness to please me. They put huge thick slices of a kosher-like pickle on it. I don't like pickles on my burger, but I like to eat them on the side. These were really good. They provide condiments (all Hellman's) on the table. If you have read my other reviews, you know I am not a fan of the skinny little fries. The ones served today were skinny and really crunchy. Next time, I'll go for onion rings. The venue is a huge Texas dance hall type of place. They have lots of tables. There is an arena in the back where they have some kind of rodeo-like events sometimes. That seems like it would be fun. The service here is great. I knew to expect that, with the manager I mentioned at the top of this review managing here. I will definitely come back here in the future. read more

1st time there. Went on Tuesday night for the rhythm an blues night. Good music nice atmosphere. Food was good and reasonably priced. My big complaint over 150 people there and only 1 waitress who was also the bar keeper She was swamped worked her butt off. The 2 young men in the kitchen tried to keep up. Hamburger ordered 30 minutes later still waiting. We went to dance Saturday night paid the $5 cover then looked at the dance floor. Tables everywhere and just a small area to dance. With all the available seating why crowd the dance floor or don't advertise as a great place to dance. Music was good but the beat was way too slow and couples kept running into each other on the floor. Left after the first set. read more

This review is for other bands that might be thinking about playing at this venue. Directions: Finding the place from San Antonio is a bit of a trick. Gravity Check is a ways outside of Kerrville on SH 173 headed towards Bandera. You can take I10W to Comfort and get off at exit 524(Comfort). Keep left, get onto TX-27/Front St. Go 11 miles. Left onto Sutherland Ln. Right onto Center Point River Rd. Left onto TX-173/Bandera Rd. If you reach Silver Hills Rd, you've gone too far. Load-In: Load-in is hard. The front door is at street level, but management won't let you load in that way. You must go to the side door and carry your gear in through that door. The advantage to that door is that it comes in right beside the stage. However, this slight advantage is hugely offset by the fact that you have to carry all your gear up five or six narrow concrete steps to get into the club and then another four or five steps to get it onto the stage. Manipulating full-size racks full of equipment up these steps is no trivial task. The back wall of the venue consists of five garage doors that open up onto a really nice concrete patio. If the doors are open, you may find it easier to load your gear in this way. You can pull your truck and/or trailer right up to the steps for unloading/loading and leave it there for the duration of the gig. Stage: This is an excellent stage. It's probably between three and four feet high, very deep and quite wide. There are plenty of pictures of it on the Gravity Check Facebook page. Strategically placed about the stage are recessed stage-floor boxes with XLR jacks and live outlets. These are real, purpose-built audio stage-floor boxes so you can plug large or oddly shaped electrical cords into them with little or no problem. The XLR connections must run to a mixer somewhere, however, we used our own PA so we did not have an opportunity to become familiar with how the Gravity Check system works. There are also a very few outlets on the back wall of the stage. Perhaps the most striking aspect of this stage is the LED video wall behind it. You can display any digital picture file or digital video you might have on this wall. Simply bring the file with you on a USB stick from which they can load it into the computer that controls the wall. We were able to bring a copy of the animated logo from our web site and have it displayed behind us for the entire night. VERY COOL! Lighting: The venue has a lot of lights for the stage, including motion lights. However, you can't control them, so you may want to use your own lighting. Sound System: The club has what appears to be a very professional sound system, although we did not use it. We've found that we almost always get better results with our own system since it allows us to mix from the audience. The venue has obviously been acoustically tuned. There are numerous acoustic panels on the walls and ceiling to kill unwanted reverberation. The room is quite nice, acoustically. Layout: The stage is located on the left wall of the building and the bar is located on the opposite wall directly in front of the stage. Thus, if your volume is too high, you can interfere with the bartenders being able to hear customers' orders. The whole back wall is garage doors and they open these to allow access to a large concrete patio in back of the facility. Volume: This venue has a dB meter readout mounted in the ceiling directly in front of the band. In addition, they have an arbitrary 100dB limit assigned because they believe that their customers leave if the music gets too loud. They are adamant about this limit, not even allowing instantaneous peaks above 100dB. Gravity Check is a large club. However, we found loading PA settings that were satisfactory for many places a half to one-third its size to be too loud. Even turning off the FOH completely and only playing through our monitors exceeded the limit. Comfort: Venue temperature control appears to be excellent. Miscellaneous: We broadcasted this gig via Facebook Live and had trouble maintaining an Internet connection during the broadcast. Parking: A big parking lot provides plenty of parking, even for tandem units. Venue Management: Pleasant and easy to work with but their fixation with volume control made it impossible for us to achieve a good sound or perform at the level to which we are accustomed. We spoke with members from other local bands during the night who echoed our sentiments. Overall: Gravity Check is physically one of the nicest venues in the area. Playing here should be real joy. However, the constraints imposed by management make it impossible to reach the venue's maximum potential. read more

5 of us came in at 6pm for dinner and drinks; 5 meals 7 drinks, 2 appetizers between us. The music started at 7 and we were told by the waitress we didn't have to pay a cover unless we stayed. While we were waiting for the bill at 7:30 the owner accosted one of the women in our party as she was coming out of the restroom and demanded we pay the cover charge or get out. We were just waiting for the bill. Turns out it was the very drunk owner. Don't go here and be treated this rudely. Too bad. The band was great, but the food was iffy anyway. Never again read more

Went here for dinner with friends and family at 6pm. Had good food with good, friendly service. The music started at 7 and we were not staying for the show. Ended with the owner verbally assaulting my friends wife, then challenging me to a fight, to him physically assaulting me. All because we were leaving shortly after the music started and the owner thought we should pay the $5 (per person) cover charge after we had spent $150 on food and drinks...and we were not staying for the show. We had a retirement party planned here three weeks in advance. Even did reservations in person! When we all got there and started showing up they told us they had another event coming in and we had to be out soon because they were closing for the other event.
