I flew RT Pittsburgh-San Francisco August 2026. I have flown a LOT in my lifetime; I used to do a lot of consulting and business travel, US and International, and enjoyed some exotic trips using frequent flier miles. But in recent years, travel became a drag, especially after 9/11 and TSA trying to beat the flying public into submission. So I haven't flown much in several years, but this was a special family get together, so I made the effort. Southwest was a pleasant surprise, it was well-run, the planes were nice, so was the flight crew. Flight crews on United in the past 12 years or so were surly and adversarial to the passengers, but the four crews I encountered were all pleasant, smiled a lot and seemed to care for the passengers. This was also my first time using PIttsburgh's airport since the recent renovation, which also was substantially improved. The flight was honestly pretty painless overall and now I'm thinking I should take some more trips. Thumbs up to both Southwest and Pittsburgh Airport. read more

My wife and I were on Flt 156 from ABQ to PIT on 03/28/2026. When we arrived at ABQ airport, we saw that flight was delayed. We went to customer services to see if this delay would impact the connecting flight from LAS to PIT. The SW Rep told us that the delay was from a flight crew matter (timing out and getting a new crew) for the flight from Phoenix to ABQ, which would be the plane to take us to LAS. Due to the amount of delay, he indicated that it was impossible to make the connection. He tried to re-route us for about 15 minutes. Because SW Air doesn't reciprocate with other airlines, there were limited options. The counter rep (who was very helpful) gave us three options: (1) He could get us to either Columbus OH or Cleveland OH and take a flight the next day and get a rental a car and drive from Cleveland or Columbus to PIT, or (2) Go to LAS, stay overnight (at our expense and fly out in the morning), or (3) Stay in Albuquerque another night (at our expense) and fly out on a 5:50 AM flight ABQ to LAS and then onto PIT. We chose option #3, since it seemed most reasonable and least costly. The delay changed our schedules (as we lost the day that we expected to be at home) and we did have to get an UBER for approximately $45 in the morning for our 5:50 AM Flight (#153, ABQ to LAS). Because it was a SW issue the Customer Service Rep told us that this qualified for a LUV voucher because it was a flight crew delay that caused us to miss this flight; he gave us a voucher form to scan and begin the process. He said it could take up to 30 days to process. I submitted a voucher; I received an email that our case was denied because it was less than a 3 hour delay. I called SW Customer Service; after my long explanation they indicated that they couldn't help me, and to resubmit a LUV voucher. I then saw that my miles from the flight never hit my account so I call Rapid Reward help; this Rep added my miles and told me to send a "Complaint" because this was a SW Air issue and it should qualify for a LUV voucher. She indicated that the response I received was an "automated system" response (a person didn't review it) and I needed to file this complaint in order to have a person (rather than an algorithm) review this situation. She was confident that it would qualify for a voucher. I followed her advice and filed a Compliant. It total, I've now spent several hours working my way through this system. The Result: The next day the Complaint Service Rep told me to file for a LUV Voucher, which I had previously done. I looked for the spot to do this on their website, and it was buried somewhere, but I didn't find it. I simply gave up. So despite two SW Air Reps telling me that I qualified for some type of compensation for this problem, and spending several hours trying to follow up, SW Air's change in policy (taking these voucher reviews away from the Customer Rep staff and allocating them to an 'automated system') prevailed. It's not the 'old SW Air' where customers were treated with industry leading customer service. read more

We originally booked Spirit but they went bankrupt so we had to find somewhere else. Southwest was twice as much but still the cheapest. I dont like that you have to pay to sit with your family and they are strict about that. However, if you get the emergency seat you'll get so much legroom. RUN!!! Southwest Airlines says that they are veteran friendly. Ha! what a crock of shit that is. They mistreated my brother who is a disabled vietnam veteran who has COPD and other health issues. My brother treated so poorly in Pittsburgh. We had a non-stop flight back to Phoenix, and they wouldn't let my handicapped brother who is disabled veteran on the plane because of his breathing machine that was 85% full battery. The asshole who mistreated my brother took him off the plane and put him on a longer flight to San Diego which is a 5 hour long flight. Made no sense, and caused us to have to switch planes he stuck him in the back of the plane like the last seat, then proceeded to try and cover his ass because he knew he made a mistake by taking off a disabled, handicapped veteran who is having trouble medically. This nearly killed my brother. It was a awful flight back and we were supposed to be non stop with assigned seats paid. They didn't even get him a wheel chair till the asshole that did this figured out he needed to cover his tracks, get by brother a wheel chair and assistance. It gets better. They then rerouted us on another flight, stuck my brother to the back of the plane again, no wheel chair access when we got to our destination in Nashville. Then wait several hours only for shitty seats again, then roll into Phoenix around 12:45am. what a shit show. If you want a good experience go on another airline where they treat you better because they lie here at Southwest. I don't have anything good to say about Southwest at this point. I have to take my brother to the doctor because he is now so sick and doing poorly because of this flight fiasco. I hope he makes it. If he dies they are going to have a lawsuit on their hands. read more

Wow! Things sure have changed at our once favorite airline..and not for the better! I hope the new ownership is happy losing long time customers. Not only did we fly Southwest every time we could.. we used their credit cards and made them thousands in fees. Now they are just like the rest..maybe worse. SW use to make it easy to change flights..not anymore! You now have to upgrade and pay for any changes. Once I use up my remaining miles, I'm dropping those credit cards (sorry Chase) and switching to the highest cash back card I can find. I've recently flown Breeze and Allegiant..,they offer non stop flights to destinations we travel to. Sorry to see all these unfriendly changes. read more

I called the 800 number twice and gave them every email address that I have used in the last eight years. I have flown a number of times in the past three years. Somehow my email address was changed and I had to fill out information online by showing my real ID. I did so they gave me a case number but it's going to take 10 days. Do not recommend. We got a message that our flight was delayed and it was not. They left without us. They over booked all flights. Nothing left to go on a later flight and the customer service agents were all rude. We missed our first flight because we were at the wrong gate and no one called or did anything to alert us. We were given a second flight and told to go to the wrong gate A1 and not A7 and missed the second flight after 8 hours in the airport we were not offered anything but a "sorry this is not what you want to hear". read more

This review is a generic review of Southwest policies and not specific to the Pittsburgh, PA location. For many years, my brother and I have been taking a yearly trip to Texas to visit another brother and his family. In November 2025 we decided to postpone our trip due to the government shutdown. The Southwest policy is that the funds for this trip goes into a credit bucket - WHICH, if unused, EXPIRES IN SIX MONTHS! We rescheduled this trip for March 20 2026. Unfortunately due to a family situation, we needed to postpone this trip. Again, due to the Southwest policy, we are due to lose these credits by April first. In both cases, we canceled these flights in plenty of time for Southwest to fill these seats. The fact that Southwest decides to, hold hostage these funds, and then CONSUME these funds if unused in six months - despite no expense on their end should be illegal. In fact, the credit card shouldn't even be charged until you actually use the product i.e. fly on their plane. When you cancel a reservation, the funds for the flight should be credited back to the charge card. AND, if Southwest feels it necessary to hold the funds hostage until you have a chance to use them on a future flight, the FUNDS SHOULD NEVER EXPIRE! read more

I had to travel to Washington, DC for an in-person (yes, they still exist!) meeting and training session. Well I didn't want to drive and as for Amtrak's Capitol Train, well see my review....As I was staying on the Maryland side of things, Southwest had the best schedule going in and out of BWI. Southwest had gotten a bad rap over the past few years, but they did get me to and from PIT on time. Having boarding group A and TSA Pre-Check was a plus. I have a flight scheduled for next month and Southwest will not honor my rapid rewards for this flight. This is the one and only reason I use their credit card. The website malfunctioned at the time of checking out. And when I contacted not 1 but 2 customers service representative, they informed me there was nothing that could be done about matter. I filed a formal complaint on the Southwest website 1 week ago and I have not heard anything back from them yet. Southwest airlines is starting to improve from their flight delays they were having earlier this year. It actually made me a bit apprehensive flying their aircraft but things worked out for us. You have open seating and your first two bags fly free which is one of their better perks. There is slightly more space in the overhead bins for carry ons but you have to be quick to get one since many people don't like to check luggage. You can either self tag your luggage or go to the counter to do the traditional check in. I prefer the latter since when I'm making a flight connection I want everything to go smoothly. Your boarding group is assigned to you about 24 hours before your flight and you line up accordingly when called. On our way out we had no trouble with our flight from Pittsburgh to Denver but were delayed in Denver due to a crew change. On our return our flight from Orange County was delayed but our flight from Las Vegas was still on time. Called Southwest regarding the delay and learned that our delayed flight originated out of Denver and was currently enroute to Orange County. They said that as long as we have an hour minimum to connect then we should be fine. Turned out that our flight was only 15 minutes late in departing and we barely had enough time to make our connection in Las Vegas to go home. WiFi is available on flights for a fee but from past experience it doesn't seem to work when you purchased it and it can be a bit of a headache getting your money back. You can however, text to anyone with an IOS device on the ground. Still can't figure out why you can't do that with Android but it helps to pass the time. Depending upon flight conditions you will get a small snack and beverage while in flight. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable as you travel. I will continue to use Southwest as they do have some perks but will allow more time when setting something up that involves a connection. read more

I found great flights from Pittsburgh to Denver with prices a throwback to pre-pandemic days, a rarity. Usually I could fly nonstop both ways but had to connect via Baltimore on the way to Denver--yeah, not quite in the direction headed. In tthe way home it was a no stop but delayed 2 hours. Fortunately, I had Yripit mobile app to inform me because their alert was several hours ahead if Southwest's alert. And Southwests alert?? An email in Spanish. What the? Not like I just signed up with Southwest so have no idea why they thought an email in Soanish was warranted. Southwest airlines is my go-to when flying. Not for everyone, but for me, I've pretty much always had good experiences, especially flying to and from PIT. It's always interesting to me when I fly the amount of people who don't know how SWA works: The, "cattle call" as many call it where you line up in your boarding number to get onto the plane. The no seat assignment. My last flight a passenger was looking for seat C11, which isn't actually a seat, but rather, their boarding number. People for some reason don't grasp the concept(s)- or maybe they just don't fly or pay attention the announcements? My flight to and from this airport was a breeze. And while it was delayed, we were constantly updated on the status and made aware of every update and change in flight status. The team here, both at the terminal and in the air were beyond friendly, helpful, and ready to assist with questions. The aircraft was clean, a little dated, but comfortable enough for my 2 and a half hour flight home. Free snacks and sodas help too and the WiFi was working which definitely helps pass the time and for me, always worth the $8 it costs you to connect. Overall a great experience. A perfectly miserable customer service experience just happened. My boarding pass failed to include my active TSA Precheck designation. I went to the Southwest counter at Pittsburgh International Airport when I arrived for my flight and explained my issue to the associate who verified that the system showed my TSA Precheck status was active. From that point forward I was barked at and told there is guarantee the status will show up on the boarding pass and IF I HAD TAKEN THE TIME TO READ THE FINE PRINT I would know that. When I asked for a new boarding pass it also failed to show the status. I was then barked at again and scolded again for not having read the fine print. The individual I dealt with should not be working with the public. I realize everyone has a bad day, but that shouldn't impact me. I was polite and respectful throughout the encounter. There is only one domestic airline in America and that is Southwest Airlines. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The planes are COVID ready and they are always worried about your safety. There's really nothing you can complain about when it comes to Southwest...well, almost nothing. I like Southwest for their cheap fares and being able to make sure you can get where you are going fairly quickly. They seem to keep adding destinations for the Pittsburgh area to travel to which is also a big plus. Planes seem to be some of the cleanest out there, and I think that I have only ever been delayed once when flying this airline. So, like I said, not much you can complain about. But let me try. My biggest gripe about this airline is that if you want to check in early you pay extra and that doesn't even guarantee that you get a stellar seat. And I feel as if you are playing roulette when boarding. You have no idea where you will be seated and when you do find a seat, will it be a good seat? Am I going to have a crying kid behind me, am I going to be seated next to an armrest hog, etc. Unless you are flying with a friend or family, good luck in that area. read more

Yup, I'm pretty loyal to Southwest at this point in my life. They have never disappointed me and when my expectations haven't been met, they have still managed to come through. Seating is a nightmare, baggage carry on another nightmare.. crew gets to take overhead storage from passengers..... fight attendants took a beating during Covid but prodding us out of air conditioning into a hot jet flying all day is a sauna no thanx! SouthWest Airlines in Pittsburgh made it easy to fly in and out. They made checking in to get my ticket and seat assignment as easy as cake. There were no lines at the kiosks, the check in for baggage went just as smoothly. At the gate, the operators were friendly and warm, dressed in their Pittsburgh jerseys, since Pittsburgh and Dallas were having a big game that day. The worst airline ever. Multiple delays and when you call to speak to someone at customer service they say they can't see the reason for the delay. My first time flying Southwest and the sad part is I've heard outstanding reviews. This is very disheartening to deal with an airline who doesn't tell you the reason for the delay. They do a nice job. I fly all the airlines, and have since about 1993, mostly domestically, but a with a few international trips, too. Overall, Southwest is quite good. Their associates seem cheerful. And their boarding process just works (are you listening, Delta?). No, you don't get an assigned seat. Pay the $15 for the Early Bird auto-check-in and I promise you'll get an aisle seat. read more

I would have liked my 700th review to be a super special one. However, it's time to review an airline. How boring is that? I have to give Southwest an A-OK rating. Because they did get me and my bag to Hobby airport in one piece. And back, again. So, I gotta give them credit for that. Everyone I know is so in love with this airline. But not me. I still can not get over their idiotic idea of having everyone line up with a bunch of cattle to fight for a seat. Now, the "no fee" airline will give you a chance to line up earlier for a shot at a seat for a mere $10. Hey, isn't that a fee? I only had to push one person out of my way to get the seat I wanted. My friend and I booked a trip to Clearwater Beach this week and decided to fly with Southwest airlines since they flew direct and they have always seemed to be a decent airline. When we checked in yesterday at 1:15, exactly 24 hours prior to our flight departure, we got B class for boarding. By the time we finally got to board the plane, they had mentioned that the plane held 143 passengers and 140 seats were filled. With that being said, it was a pretty full flight. My friend and I looked at the seats as we walk towards the back of the plane to see if we could find two seats together, and we could not. Every row had at least one if not two seats saved for someone else that the person was saving for. With that being said, it appeared that the other people flying got to sit with their family or friends. When I ask the flight attendant if there was anyway that we could sit together, she said "I guess not, please find a seat." I just think it stinks to pay what you do for a flight and can't even sit near the people they are traveling with. This isn't the first time this has happened, so that's why I decided to write about it this time. The turbulence was also probably the worst I've ever experienced ascending and descending even though the weather was completely clear. 5 stars for the pilots who landed the plane tonight. Never been so happy to land in my life. There was thunderstorms going on nearby and I was watching lightning go by outside my window. They had us in a holding pattern forever, but we finally landed safely. Everyone cheered when we touched down. I'm grateful to the staff who got us here safely. But...it's been an hour and half and we still don't have our bags...everyone's flight got delayed. And now there shuttling all the bags through one carousel! It's ridiculous. I have flown multiple times since them and they are beginning to win me over again. The staff is always friendly and funny---I especially like when they rap the rules or make the rules funny. . .much appreciated southwest---can't stand the normal blah blah blah routine. Flights are usually clean and pretty close to on time. Their reward program is amazing. I have the southwest visa and rack up points pretty quickly. I just book two flight (one to Vegas and one to Pittsburgh) with points alone. Love that bags fly free and that you can pick your own seat! We flew round trip Pittsburgh International airport to Nashville and back on Southwest Airlines. The flight to Nashville was nonstop, comfortable, and arrived 10 minutes earlier than scheduled. This was an evening flight arriving in Nashville at 7 pm. The staff from check in to the plane were all friendly, helpful, and treated us with respect. The flight back from Nashville to Pittsburgh was also nonstop. This was a morning flight arriving at noon. Even though both flights were short, the service on board was quick and very good. The return flight was full and the service was personable. One flight attendant, Jeff, talked to people and was very helpful. He was always smiling and seemed to like his job a lot. That made us feel good and because of that we enjoyed our flight home. Thanks to Jeff and the other flight attendants. You do a great job! read more
