VERY RUDE BRANCH MANAGER!!!!! Came to this place on 5/31/23 told staff that I was a volunteer coach and they charged me $10 for a 6 year old to shoot ball for 30 minutes. I showed proof and was looked at like I was crazy. The YMCA is a scam, they charge a upward of $160.00 per sport per kid and need Volunteer coaches. How bout you pay volunteers for their time? This league is for beginners, nagging parents and horrible refs. This is a non competitive league and the kids won't learn fundamentals. I'm disappointed at the whole situation, yeah you got $10.00 but you lost a free volunteer coach and my kids won't participate in any YMCA sports. I9 is Better!!!!!

I had belonged to a Y in Illinois which was awesome. Huge indoor track, lots of brand new machines, towels to use, disinfecting spray at EVERY machine. So of course continuing at the Y when I moved to Austin was a no brainier. However I feel this Y is really lacking in many areas. The indoor track feels very small compared to the Y I had been in. Often there are children playing on the track interrupting those who seriously want to walk or jog. I understand the concept of the YMCA is all about family, however when a dad and his eight-year-old kid are kicking the ball around the track it really impacts those wanting to exercise. The machines in the weight room seem very dated and there is not one bottle of disinfectant to be found anywhere, despite signs everywhere of "please wipe down your machine". Yes, there are the wet wipes you can pull out of the dispenser but that is a real pain to have to go get one after every machine use! Lastly, the location of this Y is an absolute nightmare. Trying to get out onto the frontage road at any time of the day, especially rush hour, it's near impossible! The parking lot is very small and overflow parking is across the street in a very gravely Rocky lot that belongs to a tire company.

Since the remodel this is a great gym. Nice people, family vibe and good equipment for a great value. Men's locker room needs a new cleaner.

How are the toddler swim lessons?

Hi Camille! At the YMCA of Austin, we have made it our mission to provide all children with the opportunity to learn how to be confident and comfortable in the water through swim lessons at all of our facilities. All YMCA Swim Instructors are…

And ...I definitely can see how they might not be for everyone. However, WOW! Emler has a methodology that really works - it empowers my kid to want to show me what he learned vs me pushing to level him up. Big dynamic shift and as a mom who wants to be fun in the water with her kids, not a "teacher", this is really valuable when we're practicing. More importantly, they have been incredibly accommodating with us as we juggled timing issues etc and have bent over backwards to ensure both of my kids get the most out of each lesson. All of the teachers we've had are excellent and the whole staff is just the bees knees

This class really pushed him to the next level and within 6 months our son was jumping into the water staying several seconds under water and floating on his back. He loves the songs and props and always talks about swim class and reenacts it at home. Jaide has been a phenomenal teacher, pushing the students just enough to get them to improve each week. She also knows when to be more sensitive when they are experiencing fear and needed to go easy that day, ultimately building trust with them. We have also had makeups with Sami, Bella, and Isaiah and they are also phenomenal with the kids. Such a talented team at Emler - you can't go wrong! Thank you for teaching 2 year old how to swim, float, and stay safe in the water.

The staff never flinches, they all perform their roles well and take safety into account in every way. I love that they blow the whistle every ten minutes to make sure everyone is accounted for. The instructors were really sweet and the time in the pool reflected the fact that one child was crying and didn't want to participate and the other child was launching into the pool without waiting for instruction. At our second visit two parents of the other children were hovering over our child and even picked him up to set him back down on the poolside after he got bored waiting on the other children. We did NOT like the fact that other parents were touching our child. We quickly realized that these lessons were not productive and decided to not continue with additional ones. We then noticed that a charge of $200 was made to our credit card and when we asked about this it was apparent were were auto-enrolled in lessons and would be charged $200 for the next month. No where on the website was it obvious that we were enrolling for recurrent lessons. When we contested the payment and discussed that we were unsatisfied with our experience we were essentially told tough luck. Private lessons are $150 for 30 minutes, which did not seem at all worth it. We will be contesting this with the credit card company and report to the better business bureau for deceptive practices. The facility is clean, safe, and the instructors seemed good. It's just unfortunate that the business practice is predatory. We'll be happy to spend the time in traffic and return to Tom's Dive Shop.

They are professional, safe, and focused on feasible goals for my kid's age of familiarity and comfort in the water. The teachers were calm and encouraging and worked with the fact that sometimes my kid loved being in the water and other times didn't want to get in. They are very available for calls by phone to work with parents on makeups or questions. I didn't feel able to give a full 5 stars since there are some things the school could improve on. We often had a different instructor each week, which I admit was a bit hard for my kid feeling nervous in front of a new person (the pandemic and being isolated hasn't help with people skills meeting new teachers so I know this is exacerbated to this year). But even besides that, the different teachers often didn't know that my kid was in their class, we would walk up and they would act surprised, oh they are in my class too? I think there could be better communication between the instructors and to the instructors, and a better job encouraging the kids at the start of the lesson (e.g. give us your name at least!) Secondly the temperature of the pool at the Marriott location is inconsistent. Sometimes warm, other times cold. If this could be fixed it would be very helpful for the younger swimmers. I think these are things that could be easily improved on to make the experience even better. Overall I am happy!
