This referral did not go well. To start, they would not schedule me with the doctor I was supposed to see. Then, they tell me to arrive 30 minutes early as a new patient for an 8am appointment. Their clinic doesn't open until 8, so I had to wait outside half an hour. The receptionist unlocks the door but doesn't even bother to open it or greet me as I'm standing right there waiting. Upon entering- she was extremely rude. Did not greet me & her mannerism was acting like I was a total inconvenience interrupting her morning. Why schedule me right when you open if you aren't prepared to accept patients?! At least I didn't have to wait more than 15 minutes to be called back. The nurse, herself was very polite & kind. She was probably the best interaction I had. The doctor, I was not at all impressed with. He had all of my information/records in front of him then proceeded to tell me he hadn't reviewed my labs & I needed more lab work done. After he admitted he wasn't familiar with any but ONE prescription I was taking. That's slightly alarming for a medical professional. The one medication he was familiar with, which my primary care doc has me on is crucial- and he told me to stop taking it on the spot. Without even consulting the prescribing doctor! And to top it off, after seeing me for less than 10 minutes, he jumps to the conclusion telling me "you're just dehydrated". What?! ...no, I didn't get referred because I need to drink more water. Yet, he wants labs done that day in office- fine. I'm already there. But then tells me I need to come back and have more labs done in 3 months as well as an ultrasound. This makes 0 sense- why are we ordering additional services without even seeing the results of current, and 3 months wait to get a diagnosis or treatment is absurd once you're established! The phlebotomist on site wasn't bad. But I was absolutely appalled when I went to leave my UA collection in the box- it was packed FULL with 5 other cups! So unsanitary & disgusting! (Not to mention they don't even keep their cups in stock properly nor do they provide sanitary disinfecting wipes.) For as nice as this facility is in the lobby- anywhere other than the lobby is gross & uncomfortable. Even the trim was peeled off partially in the exam room. I'm likely going to cancel my upcoming appointments. This was a first impression & I am not at all confident my health concerns were taken seriously or in the right direction. Update: this is even worse than anticipated. They asked why I wanted to cancel my follow up- I was up front & said I did not agree with my initial visit & am seeking care elsewhere. Now, I'm receiving bills being charged for seeing multiple doctors & for services that never took place! I only saw one doctor, once. And labs were done separate through Sonora Quest. ...so how the heck am I getting a bill for $175 a month later with an additional doctor listed & procedures for surgery that never happened?! I'm blown away by how unprofessional this establishment is. I'd steer clear & find a practice that actually takes CARE of it's patients. Worst referral ever & I can't emphasize enough how unhelpful they've been since making the initial appointment. Even urgent care does a better job! read more

I come here once every couple of months and I've never had an issue with the front desk staff. They are always friendly and get you checked in and out quickly. The facility is pretty big and easy to find. There is also plenty of parking. Dr. Cohen always takes his time and is very friendly. He is the best and I'm glad he is the one I see. Dr Tzeremas is without a doubt one of the best kidney specialists I have ever seen. And I've seen alot the past 4 yrs. This Dr cares about solving the pts problems and without his expertise I'd be homebound with 2 (bilateral) nephrostomy tubes for the rest of my life. His diagnosis and treatment plan gave me my life back. I won't live long enough to properly thank this Dr for what he's done for me. This facility has turned out to be a nightmare for my mother and many others have said the same thing. Very unprofessional staff, especially in the front office. Condescending and absolutely hateful. They laugh, shove food in their mouths and ignore patients. Not very welcoming as you enter. When you ask a question, they act bothered by such and are as vague as possible when responding with an awful attitude. Dr Mendonca has always had great bedside manners and good to my senior mother but the staff is awful. However, one of the medications he had recommended she try was quite expensive so he told her he would try and get it approved (basically a prior authorization), so it would be more cost effective for her. Months later still nothing, yet her other specialist was able to get it approved within days and sent to pharmacy. It is time we find a new kidney Dr. read more

So I went into the Emergency Room last week and it was pretty serious. I was told by Dr Tzaramus(Chandler Regional On Staff Kidney Dr) to see him sometime next week because he needed to follow up with me after I was discharged from the hospital. I called to make the appointment when the appointment setter was asking me questions that i didn't have the answers to. After a while and an attitude later, I just got off the phone and decided that it shouldn't be that hard to see Dr T for a follow up. I feel 100% better since I went into the Emergency Room. It is my sincerest hope that people who are still sick and ailing don't have to go through what I had to because they would do exactly what I did. read more

Appointment setting - I have a new patient appointment in August even though I have been diagnosed with a kidney issue that needs to be treated within 2-4 weeks once diagnosed to avoid kidney damage they still won't see me until after my new patient appointment. I am in pain and now my dr is looking for another Nephrologist other than Southwest Kidney to be seen sooner. The funny thing is, is that they scheduled me for May 21st at the power location but I hung up before I got the address so when I called back for the address the Second Lady said they should have never scheduled me because no one can be seen until they go through a new patient appointment. read more

Stay away from this place!!! My brothers has been a patient for 7 months. Dr. Clyde Mendonca is who was treating him. Not only has he not been able to correct any of the issues he's had. He failed to diagnose that he has only 1 kidney!! You'd think a kidney specialist treating a patient with kidney issues would of found that issue. Not only does he only have one, that one has plaque. So ... this is likely what has caused his issues to begin with. He gave him contradictory diet restrictions as to what was actually needed. Put him on the same medication that he was told were the reason his kidney shut down to begin with. NOW .. As my brother is sitting in the hospital again a Dr from the same practice is treating him and has told him they have no record of him being a patient to retrieve his records. Terrible first experience. We had a telehealth appointment scheduled for 9:45 am. We received no phone call 30 minutes later. I called them and was told they were running behind. One hour later, still no phone call. So I called and was put on hold for 20 minutes just for them to tell us they have to reschedule for another week. They said they called the day before, and I spoke with them, with no mention of rescheduling. This office is incredibly unprofessional and could care less about patients time. This large group of doctors is supposed to be kidney specialists. They should be pro-active with their patients. They are not. They don't schedule labs before appointments so all you do is meet with a doctor for 5 mins and they charge for an office visit. Ridiculous for an important health issue. I had a urine sample taken in December, on January 16th they let me know I have a UTI,their excuse for the lapse in time was my Dr. was gone and nobody had seen the results. I read the reviews on Yelp the day before my appointment so I was kind of nervous, but I was very pleasantly surprised about how well my own visit went. It was my first visit, and I found the facility attractive and the interiors were very clean and in good shape. The check-in clerk was very friendly and courteous but she was very slow. She talked slow and she moved slowly. However after checking in and going through all my initial paperwork I was seated in the doctor's exam office exactly at my appointment time. The doctor is Mendonca and I really liked him from the start. At your first appointment it usually takes a while to explain what's been going on that has led you to see them, and I'm very long-winded but Dr. Mendonca listened attentively and was able to get a word in edgewise to make good points that were somewhat corrective in my thinking. He got the gist of the situation and both reassured me and yet urged vigilance with my kidney health moving forward. He ordered some tests to gather more information so I'll be returning next month and then a follow up with Dr. Mendonca in 6 weeks. I'm looking forward to working with him and I feel I'm in good hands with this doctor. read more

My husband has had regular visits to this office and we're considering requesting another office. His doctor, Divya Malladi, MD, is an incredibly caring and thorough specialist, and we appreciate all the help she's given us through this process. However, when it comes to scheduling, paperwork, or insurance information, this office needs to get their act together. On two separate occasions, my husband needed to be scheduled for tests/procedures at a local hospital and the receptionist sent incomplete or inaccurate information, or sent nothing at all! This drastically delayed every process. The only way to get him scheduled for anything at the hospital was for me to call Scheduling at the hospital, ask what else they needed to schedule him, wait on hold with them while they called Southwest Kidney Institute, and then scheduled him. The second procedure, my husband missed his appointments because nobody from Southwest Kidney Institute called him to tell him his results came in and had just scheduled him without consulting him! After calling Southwest Kidney Institute to try to reschedule something with the hospital, again they forgot necessary information to schedule a procedure and I had to figure out what was missing. I called and spoke to Rose to confirm that the necessary information was sent to the hospital and she rudely hung up on me. It is incredibly frustrating working with this office, especially when my husband's life and well-being is on the line. Unacceptable, I had to wait for 9 days to get a medication filled. I had changed pharmacies and they kept sending it to my old pharmacy. The MA called on Monday and it was hard to hear what she said. I called back and no one called me back. Then I called on Friday and I spoke with the receptionist. I told her I have a new pharmacy. It has been exactly 2 months today since I visited Dr. Yee for my initial visit. I had another test completed about 30 days ago. I have made 14 attempts to reach someone on the 480-610-6100 # in the last month to schedule a follow up visit. No return response to my three website message emails either. No one ever answered the phone in 14 tries until today and today only after a 32 minute wait. And that was after I pushed the Medical Provider extension. Can you imagine, 32 minutes to answer a fellow Medical Provider Office?? The seriously sad part is that Dr. Yee was RECOMMENDED by 2 separate Physicians that I know personally. I've had to tell them that they sure gave me Terrible advice and they said that doesn't sound like the Doctor Yee they used to know. I can't believe this " PHYSICIANS" Office would let ANY Patient wait 60 days for a follow up conversation or consultation about their CKD. I do know that both times I went to the office there were 3 ladies at the front desk and they talked non-stop about personal problems, family situations and what bands were coming to Phoenix for concerts. The service I received was good when I ultimately found the location. I live in Chandler but the location I was sent to is in Mesa almost on the border of Apache Junction, and trying to call the location to get directions was almost impossible. All future follow up now to be done at Chandler but the reception at Mesa need to get the phone manners improved big time. read more

I have had stage 3 kidney disease (very close to being stage 2) for over 15 years. During that time I have been coming to Southwest Kidney on a routine basis. I have seen 3 different doctors over that time. A couple of years ago I had a visit with my PCP, and my GFR was very low. He didn't seem that concerned, but I was. I was not scheduled for another appointment with Southwest Kidney for almost 2 months. But I went in anyway (to the location at Warner Rd and the 101) and explained my situation, and that I wanted to see a doctor right away. My regular doctor did not have any available appointments in the near future, but I was able to see Dr. Divya Malladi the next day. She agreed that the number was too low. She changed some of my medication, had me do labs right then, then again in a week. All in all I saw her 3 times in less than a month. She is now my kidney doctor. My numbers have been good for my condition ever since. But more than that, she showed an interest. She jumped on things immediately, and treated it as an emergency. I give her 5 stars. 4 stars overall, because all the Southwest Kidney offices have the same phone number. It is impossible to directly contact the office you go to by phone. That can make things very inconvenient. My location has their own lab, which makes things much easier than having to go to two different places. read more

I see Dr. Malladi and she is great. But the management of the group practice is poor. The phone system is terrible! The phone just rings and rings and no one answers. I hate trying to get ahold of anyone there for any reason. Usually they call me to schedule follow up appointments etc. because I can never get through. My husband has kidney failure and had to be checked every three months. We did this at this office there times and have now transferred to another doctor and facility. The doctor seemed caring and thorough but never called us back or contacted the heart failure clinic that is already following my husband and with whom he had written permission to discuss this case. At one rime he insisted he had never heard from the other office when he had already spoken to them. After reading other reviews here, I suppose it is possible that the office staff never gave him the messages to call my husband about abnormal lab results or the questions the heart failure doctor needed answered. Therefor I am not mentioning the doctor's name and am reviewing the Institute itself. It is very nice looking and clean but it is not reassuring to call repeatedly for answers, to be assured of a call-back and to never receive such. read more
