I might be willing to give this place another try, but not until I try their competition. Maybe the competition really is as bad as the 5 star reviews are saying, and this place stands head and shoulders above the rest, but I didn't have the greatest experience. Let me first start by saying that I own a business, and I deal with customers and employees on a daily basis. I believe a business should be run with a particular level of professionalism, and I didn't find it here. When I entered the office there were two men working behind the counter. One was sitting at a desk, and the other was at the counter. The guy at the counter had finished a transaction and was talking with the customer about a car he was working on. I stood there and patiently waited while the guy continued to tell the story about how he's going to rebuild this or that. I didn't stand there with a stopwatch, but come on man. Is telling stories more important that addressing the next paying customer? Anyway, after story time was over, it was my turn... I approached the counter and mentioned that I needed some tubular steel to work on a classic mustang I'm restoring. The guy sitting at the desk says, "you know what we usually do with those old mustangs? We crush them!" Then the guy at the counter chimes in with his smart-A remarks. He said something about me working on a old clunker Falcon or something. I really didn't take time to memorize all the negativity they were spewing, but I am 100% sure what the guy sitting at the desk said, so I feel comfortable quoting his exact words. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL! I have never made jokes at my clients expense. The only time you should be "roasting" your clients is if you own a cremation service. I had a "WOW" experience at this place, and it wasn't the good kind. I would be willing to try every single other metal sales place in the Phoenix metro area before I would give a penny to these guys. By the way, if the guy at the counter is reading this... My sister and I went in just to buy a small amount of scrap steel as we are hobby welders/artists and these guys were great! Very helpful and friendly and didn't make us feel like a "little" customer. After reading some of the old reviews I was a little hesitant but my neighbor has used them and thought they were great so we gave them a chance. The place was very clean, organized and the staff was very helpful. read more

I have purchased steel here many times because they were the closest to my business. I always found them to be very rude. After calling them and asking them for some steel recommendations, and being spoken to like AI was insignificant, I finally had enough of their poor customer service. I inquired at the welding supply store about another possible choice. They directed me to Advanced Metal Sales, located only about 1 mile away. Wow! Just bought a 4' section of DOM tubing from this place that I had been using for years. The guy in the shop pulls out my tubing and it has a flat spot in the end of it. I told them this is was for suspension purposes and I did not need flat spots in my tubing and he still refused to cut that 2" section and off and re-measure my 4' piece. I guess my business isnt needed there anymore. Guess I'll go up the street from now on. Thanks Southwest for appreciation of my business the last 15 or more years. read more

I'm a hobbyist welder. I don't roll in and make big orders. After going to a number of steel yards and being treated with apathy to actual contempt, I tried Southwest. Each and every time I've entered the building, I'm greeted professionally. I'm treated with courtesy and like a valued customer, whether I'm buying $12 in remnants, purchasing multiple pieces of 20' stock or having them cut sheet stock to size for me. Even though I've never needed it, regardless of who is operating the cutting station, they've all offered to help me find whatever I need. I intentionally noted how they interact with people while I'm there and everyone is treated with the same professionalism and courtesy. I hope this never changes and I'll continue to drive past the yards that are closer to me to go here. read more
