I'm not going to be slapping you "high five," but Nikas is definitely a high four as far as stars…read morego. Nikas is a solid neighborhood Greek taverna. I was here years ago with a friend living west of the Decarie Expressway, thus close enough to this area restaurant. I took a few photos and the photos of the food - partially devoured - were not flattering, so I took them down. I may have also taken down that older review. I remember liking the food and the casual atmosphere, so I returned. I'm glad I did. I like their combination platters (assiettes) and I choose from the souvlaki items ... typically chicken. Everything on the platter ranged from very good to excellent and it made for a filling meal. I like that they have that little rectangular slab of feta cheese if you choose the Greek salad accompaniment and I much prefer the potatoes presented this way instead of as fries. Needless to say, the chicken put onto the souvlaki batons was very tasty. The interior is like that of a diner and there is no mistaking it's a Greek one. For one, like most of them, it's mostly blue and white like the country's flag, and there are paintings, murals, and statues of things Greek. If it's daylight, you can sit at the tables in the glassier front part. If you want more illumination, you can sit in the booths a little further in. I have eaten in both areas. The owner was extremely pleasant and she was the server for the table. She was also interesting given that not many people in the Montreal area have linear life experiences and/or have blinders on. I like how this added to the local true-to-form Montreal flavor of the experience at Nikas. Nikas offers good value and features good lunch prices and combinations, although this visit was at dinner time. Still, the price-quality-quantity rapport was to my liking. You can drive here - further west on Sherbrooke - and find a place to park on the street. If you want to use transit, the Metro will take you to the Vendome station and, from there, it's a short 5 to 10 minute hop on the 105-Sherbrooke bus to the Hingston Avenue stop. This is such a good and practical option for a type of food I very much like. I hope to return.

C'est beau. C'est chaud. C'est très Montréal…read more Where do I begin? Absolument fantastique! On our very first night in Montréal, we did what any responsible travelers would do: absolutely no planning whatsoever. We wandered in on a whim and somehow landed straight into what can only be described as a culinary jackpot. First visit to the city, and honestly, it set the bar so high everything else on the trip is still emotionally recovering. As a first-time visitor to Montreal, I can't imagine a better way to kick off a vacation with friends. We arrived during a full-on heat wave, which meant the restaurant was doing its best impression of "authentic Mediterranean sauna experience." But here's the twist: nobody cared. Not even a little. The food and service were working overtime to distract us from the fact that we were gently melting into our chairs. Before long, espresso martinis were appearing with suspicious frequency, and a perfectly respectable Negroni made an appearance as well. Now. We must talk about the true headliner. No notes. No edits. No constructive criticism. I do not say this lightly, but the fresh pita may have been life-changing. If you enjoy pita, feta, flavor, joy, serotonin, or the concept of happiness itself, please order it immediately. Do not consult the group. Do not "wait and see." Just act. NOW. No modifications. No hesitation. No regrets. The entrées were also fantastic. In fact, they were so fantastic that I failed my duties as a vacation food photographer. The plates vanished so quickly that I couldn't even get a proper photo, and now I can't remember what anyone ordered. It had already been spiritually consumed and physically erased from our plates. And then, just when we thought the night had peaked, Montréal said: "hold my espresso martini!" As we were leaving, we witnessed one final moment that sealed the experience. We witnessed a waiter sprinting down the sidewalk in a full-speed Olympic-level pursuit of a diner who had left their sunglasses behind. Did he catch them? No. Did it matter? Also no. The commitment alone deserved a standing ovation and possibly its own medal ceremony. The effort, determination, and Olympic-level commitment to customer service did not go unnoticed. Highly recommend. 10/10 Tres bon!

The waiters were very nice and apologized for the wait for our drinks (which I didn't even feel like it was too long). I love the decor inside with all the plants and that they have fresh air circulating through the dining room. I will say it was unusually hot the day we went but still much cooler than being in the direct heat outside. The calamari had such a great batter and it was super crispy and fresh. They have a lunch special and I got a chicken gyro with fries. Their tzatziki is the BEST one I've ever had, perfectly balanced. The octopus salad was pretty oily though and it didn't feel as refreshing as I was hoping. The menu said you can add pita for an extra charge and I went with it not knowing the salad already came with it. That's the only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars.

Started off with hand cut fresh breaded Calamari with a seafood sauce. Hot, Crispy and delicious, (can order as a entre or a meal) Had the special Lamb Chops, mouth watering cooked to perfection with salad, fries and rice. Good grill marks, melt in your mouth and excellent flavor. This was the most expensive thing on the menu. Great Value. Its our third time here and had the gyro plate, and New York Steak wanting us to come by and try more. Keep it up guys good work.

Boy were we wrong! This is an authentic greek restaurant, with authentic greek cooks and cuisine. The look of the restaurant blew us away (especially compared to the previous places). The good: Great restaurant look (the paint and decor makes it look bigger). The welcome at the door by the manager was great. Speaking of her (co-owner by the way), she is what a manager should be, which is greeting people, helping staff, goes around to look if you are satisfied or need anything. Food is TERRIFIC! Everything is fresh, and you can taste the freshness. They have their own poke bowl (pork or chicken, no fish). Tzatziki sauce is to die for, best l ever had! Lots of flavours in the food. Great service. Pretty good portion sizes. Strange enough that l notice, but they have a coat rack to hang your coats. Also it seems the bathrooms are clean and they got rid of the "Regal Smell". They let my wife order off the kids menu (and that is way before she mentioned she had a surgery that limits her eating and portion sizes). They just want you to be happy. Oh and huge size cake, they brought us four forks (being a group of four). The bad: You could be waiting for a while before you receive your plate (everything is cooked from fresh, no precook or freeze, so that's normal). There is no English menu (but we were told they are coming). In the end, what a GREAT discovery! We will definitely go back.

We walked over hoping to grab taziki and hummus, but learned they don't serve hummus (not actually a Greek food, apparently). Fair enough. We got the taziki at least. We also opted for an eggplant dish and some sausage for a bit of protein, but the wait was too long for a sit-down meal, so we ordered to go. The waiting area was packed, and we noticed the delicious-looking sangrias on nearly every table in the dining room. On a whim, we asked if they did sangrias to go--the answer was a firm no--but they offered us a standing area near the bar in the back where we could enjoy drinks while waiting for our order. Sold. The back room was warm and inviting, with drinks displayed on stairs built into the walls that doubled as shelves behind the bar. There were cozy high seats as well, making it a perfect spot to settle in. The sangria was absolutely delicious, with spiced notes that transported me back to last summer in Andalusia. It made the wait fly by. We grabbed our food and left happy, but I'd love to come back for a proper sit-down meal. We're in town for two more days, so I'm hoping to make it happen before we leave. This was a delicious little introduction, and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. Unfortunately we devoured the food before I thought about getting photos.

They had some people but they were all seated quite far from each other, as it's a pretty big place. I thought they were doing a really good job of keeping distance between people. Our server was super nice so that right there was a bonus for me. We tried the chicken, sea bass grilled, calamari, Greek salad and the loukoumades for dessert. Every single thing was absolutely perfect! It reminded us of our Greece trip. The food tasted very authentic. I guess my search for an amazing Greek restaurant in Montreal is complete. The waiter who has a tattoo of his cute dog Humphrey on his arm recommended a delicious bottle of Greek white wine that went beautifully with the grilled octopus and fried calamari. The grilled veggies and oyster mushrooms were delicious and the tzatiki and warm pita plentiful . The salads were light and fresh with the tomatoes oozing with flavor . Mr S had his favorite saganaki and was so pleased he ordered a second one. We finished with grilled Shrimp. For dessert we had homemade yogurt topped with a homemade compote of fruit and an assortment of honey balls. Congratulations Dennis everything was just as we remembered from Bernard ave.
