Between the time I…read morebooked and the day of our trip, I was called a couple of times with an offer of a discount should I pay the balance in full on Zell or Venmo, which felt fishy to me. I would only pay the balance when due on my credit card; in case something happened, I would be covered. Less than a week before our trip, I got an email saying the bus would not be available because they were waiting for a part to be repaired. I told them that since I had paid in full, it was their responsibility to find another bus. After many phone calls and emails to them, they assured me we would have a bus. The person I spoke to told me to "take a tablet", I guess he meant take a chill pill. I had 38 people who had paid for a lovely day trip on a dinner train, and I was nervous they would not come through with the bus. Thankfully, they sent a bus with a great bus driver. I told him we were already charged a driver gratuity, $216, because I wanted to make sure he was aware and to ask for it. He said the company never gives them the tips. I hope he did get his tip. I will never use this company again. They were too difficult to work with leading up to the trip. Also, my seat was broken, when the bus stopped short my seat went flying forward and I ended up on the floor. I was glad none of our seniors was sitting in the seat.

You will realize something is fishy when the charge goes through an entirely different company called "Shofur." You will search for reviews of Shofur and realize they are a scam company using shell companies, like "Boston Charter Bus Company," in different localities in order to seem legitimate and hide the fact that they have tons of awful reviews. You will read horror stories of ruined events and weddings where they tried to get even more money out of helpless people by calling them the day of the event to say they haven't been able to find a bus, but perhaps they can work something out if you pay them even more. Or you will read horror stories where the buses actually did show up (often extremely late), only to be operated by hostile, dangerous drivers. You will be so concerned about this company ruining your wedding that you will request to cancel your booking (within the cancellation window). They will wait until you are outside of the window to respond. When you ask for your money back they will claim they need to review your request for 60 days. You will, of course, never hear from them again. If you try to get a charge back through your credit card company, it is possible your request will be rejected for unknown reasons, at which point you will be out the equivalent of a month's rent despite receiving absolutely no form of service from this sham of a company. So please, search Shofur. Read the numerous awful reviews and ignore the clearly fake 5-star ones they probably make their employees write for them. If you need buses for an event, contract an actually-local company that owns its own fleet of vehicles. I promise it will be cheaper and far less frustrating.

I requested more information and they never replied, so I called them. The other end was also not a proper introduction, it was just a "Hello." I called an 800 number so I didn't understand what was happening and had to ask if this was Prompt Charters. He confirmed. The guy was very unprofessional and hardly understood or spoke English. This kind of thing, in general doesn't bother me, but his level of unprofessionalism, lack of attentiveness, and poor communication was a serious turn off. He said he would email me with pictures of the bus I was interested in using and he never did. CharterUp managed the booking process and handled (to the extent that word can be used) customer service. They repeatedly bungled the itinerary, promised ADA buses that they could not actually provide, offered us replacement ADA buses for double the cost when it was already too late to find another company, and were utterly unreliable and unconcerned with their customer success experience. Any company who uses CharterUp isn't worth booking with if you have any complexity whatsoever in your plans or any desire to provide inclusive, accessible means of travel.
