I was a little worried walking into Soy Sushi Bar and Grill at 7:15pm and finding it completely empty. For a second I wondered if I'd made a mistake, but I'm really glad I stayed! The sushi was very good, fresh and nicely prepared. The pan-fried gyoza were excellent too, crispy on the bottom and packed with flavor. They have a cute little bar area with a nice selection of specialty drinks and wines, plus plenty of beer choices overall (though not a big selection on tap). What really stood out was the customer service. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming even though I was the only customer there. It made the whole experience feel personal and relaxing. The location is super convenient too, right next door to the Tru Hotel by Hilton, perfect if you're staying in the area and don't feel like going far. The only tiny thing I'd change is asking for one of my rolls without sesame seeds next time. They were a little heavy-handed with them and it gave the rice a slightly odd, almost stale texture (I could tell the rice itself was fresh, it was just the seeds). Minor detail, but now I know. Overall, a really solid spot. If I'm ever back in the neighborhood I'll definitely return, especially knowing the service and food are this good even on a quiet night. Our experience could have been positive if not for one major setback. The service, once it finally began, was excellent, and the food was satisfying. However, it took over 45 minutes before we were even acknowledged or offered water. We were dining with another couple and had planned to attend a class 90 minutes after being seated. We specifically chose this restaurant because of its proximity to the class location. Unfortunately, by the time our food arrived, we had only about 30 minutes left, which made it impossible to finish and arrive on time. As a result, we missed the class entirely, disrupting our evening and forcing us to change our plans. This was especially frustrating given that the other couple had traveled a considerable distance to join us. To make matters worse, there was no apology or acknowledgment from the staff regarding the delay. We even asked to speak with a manager but received no response. Overall, the lack of communication and accountability resulted in a very poor customer service experience. read more

It's such a great place -- the service is always speedy and friendly. The sushi/nigiri is superb. I've tried a number of things, all of them good. The Volcano Roll is worth noting. This is probably my new favorite spot to get sushi. I never finish my entire roll but I did here! I even liked my boyfriend's choice (The J) and I typically only order fried rolls. After a couple years, I thought it was time to come back and try out Soy's Sushi again. I came here for a birthday lunch with a close friend. The parking lot is currently under construction as of August 2024, so that was a little annoying, but not to the fault of the restaurant. The location shares a parking lot with Pho Saigon, a Home2Suites, and a bunch of other little small shops in the heart of Murray State Street. Inside, the restaurant is clean and I can see this place being great for a business lunch or even a date. It's a good sushi place for any occasion really. My friend was impressed with the Jalapeño Hamachi, we both agreed that it didn't taste fishy at all. I also don't usually eat Yellowtail, but it was good! The Salmon Belly was a little of a let down because it was tiny and I felt like I paid for an avocado instead. The sauce it was doused in was pretty good though. We did order some Maki Rolls (salmon and scallop) and the Baked Mussels (they were kind of small), but I wasn't able to get a picture of it because I forgot and we were starving! No complaints on any of the rolls. I liked their Volcano roll because the tempura batter isn't thick, but there was enough tempura around the roll to give it a slight crunch. This place has been on my "try it" list. Since the reviews were positive I have some pretty good expectations of them. Started with an order of pan friend gyoza and beers, we were off to a good track! We ordered a couple of rolls and the boneless korean short ribs. We ordered a few rolls, the Murray, Holladay, orchid and the Vegas. The only one that I though was good was memorable was the Murray. The service was decent, but minimal- which is fine, considering that it was dinner time. They we're hosting a paint night and it was kinda hard to hear since the instructor would use a microphone. I thought, well maybe sushi, beer and pain night sounds fun! Overall I was not impressed with their sushi, if I'm in the area I would definitely grab the Korean beef plate for sure! We LOVE this place. They are always so accommodating and warm. You are welcomed like a family member. Even more importantly, the sushi is the bomb. Their signature rolls are incredible. Not the typical, gloppy, overly sweet sushi that is so common these days. Fresh, delicate and balanced. Some of our favs: Sugarhouse - the paper thin slice of lime just awakens the tastebuds. Rainbow - so fresh and each bite is a new adventure. We also had the Playboy with shrimp tempura which wasn't greasy. Just light and crispy. We also had Ecstasy which has fresh crab. Came in for a quick solo lunch and tried the sushi lunch special, 2 maki rolls plus a miso soup for $13. Honestly, can't beat that I'm this economy. Got the spicy tuna and the spider roll and they were both very good. The inside of the restaurant is nice looking, but it didn't feel so fancy that it would make me feel weird having a quick lunch. Also I'm not sure what's going on with the bathroom situation, but the women's bathroom was the worst smelling bathroom I have ever been in, and I've used my share of sketchy gas station bathrooms and pit toilets on hikes, and this one took the cake for worst smelling. After the owner Misa trying to bash me in public and private it was fun being called a liar and she even showed pictures from the cameras to try and prove me wrong. Anyway, asked my little brother his wife to get some grub with me and this place was in the vicinity. So we ordered a ton of items, the lady that served us was so on the ball and attentive. Sushi has to be one of my favorite foods but it can be hard to find solid places in Utah for all the obvious reasons. Jake and I went to Soy and it was amazing! Here's why: 1. No strong fish smell when you walk in 2. Restaurant is clean, beautiful, and the vibes were right 3. The rolls were put together nicely and were v presentable 4. The flavors were very palatable The four rolls we chose and I recommend in order are: 1. The Murray - If you love jalapeño and lime in your roll, this is the one for you!! 2. Playboy - when done right, the playboy is always my go-to! 3. Mars - great flavors w tempura shrimp 4. Ecstasy - lime is a must in any roll! The only thing I wish was on their starters are jalapeño bombs. We had the volcano roll, spicy tuna hand roll, Pad Thai, Chicken Teriyaki, shrimp fried rice, and a order of gyoza. Came out to be almost $80. I first off will say the sushi was great no complaints there. The Pad Thai was good but not stellar, the shrimp fried rice was average maybe a little bland, the teriyaki chicken was odd. There was a chicken leg in it with some of the meat off of it but not fully. I just have never had chicken teriyaki with bone in chicken. And the gyoza was forgotten and didn't make it in the bag. I will chalk that one up to my fault with no checking. I called and told them about the forgotten item and they wanted to fix it. So that is good. Overall it was an ok experience with average food. The portion sizes were a little small for the price. If you go here I would say go for the sushi. read more

Loved everything about this restaurant! From the lighting to the detail in their set up of their rose napkins. Their menu wasn't overwhelming which I noticed with most sushi places they usually are. We got the sushi roll deja Vu and it was delicious! I liked that the tempura isn't too battery. It's enough to give an extra crunch. I got the black cod entree and loved it! Visited Soy's for the first time for my friends bday dinner. Everything we ordered was delicious. Had some saki, sushi and I ordered the shrimp fried rice because I was hungry. Wow, the four of us rolled out of here completely satisfied. When I got the Bill it seemed super reasonable. I did return again within a week for some of that shrimp fried rice to go. It completely amazes me when I find myself dining at a restaurant that hasn't been reviewed by Jeffrey yet. So I went into this experience without the proper dining prep. Soy's is a rather new sushi spot that popped up next to me fav pho Saigon noodle house. It took me a while to try it, but I did. Firstly, we were the only people in the restaurant, which was weird. Our server/host was a bit young and experienced, but you could tell he was trying his best. The diet soda tasted strange, we sent it back and they took it off the bill. I ordered the jalapeño chicken, which came with a deep fried black hair sticking out of one of the top pieces. So I didn't try it and sent that one back too. The waiter apologized and took that off our bill as well. We also pulled the sexy shrimp, which didn't turn out to be too sexy. It was a bit bland tbh. The Las Vegas roll was the highlight of the meal. Just the kind you would hope for when getting sushi. We also ordered three other rolls, the deja vu, eclipse and ecstasy. These rolls tasted meh, the problem being they all tasted so very similar. Nothing really stood out as great.
