Cocktails: we sampled the Kyoto 78, the As Yuzu Wish, the Old Fashioned, and their take on an espresso martini. Appetizers: spicy garlic edamame. It was good, mildly spicy. Sushi etc.: we had a variety of rolls, as well as sashimi. The highlights were the Fuji Mountain roll, the Red Snapper Katsu Roll, the maguro, and the torched salmon sashimi. We came to try the new location in West Jordan. Upon arriving the interior was definitely a vibe, beautifully decorated. We started off with the pop pop appetizer and the soft shell crab. Both there good, I wish there was a dipping sauce that came with the pop pop. And two soft shell crabs for the price? Yeah you definitely need more. Sushi wise, personally I don't think it's up to my par of what I liked. To others definitely, but for me I don't think I would go back. This is one of the best sushi spots in West Jordan. The options are pretty slim in the area, but they're still pretty good. The food is fresh, the people are nice and professional for the most part. We came here for Valentine's Day - the place was very understaffed. We felt bad for the hostess as she was taking reservations, serving drinks and food, and doing a lot! We showed up on time and had to wait a good 15 minutes to get seated. The fish was fresh and the rolls were good and creative. Appreciate them having some more premium cuts of tuna and uni. However, all of our rolls should have avocado and none of them did. After the first roll came out and it was missing it, I notified the staff who said she'd check with the kitchen. And then that happened 2 more times. The last time she came back and dismissed it by saying we probably just didn't notice it (!?) Then she said they would comp our dessert but didn't and just gave us a half melted sorbet that was way too sweet. The matcha cheese cake wasn't good anyway :/ So overall, an ok experience. This restaurant is delightful!! The restaurant is elegantly decorated and has an authentic Japanese feel to it. Calming music for me as I explored the new menu (at least to me). I arrived just before 5 o'clock so there was light traffic at the restaurant, enough people to give it a well-attended field, but not overly busy. I was addressed by multiple staff members and greeted with a smile after smile, and invited to ask any questions about their food. I ended up ordering a Sapporo beer, pour in a chilled glass after it arrived. I also have a simple spicy tuna roll, and one of their signature rolls, the Chopfuku. It sure presented well on the board. Not only did it look great, it tasted delicious. Plus, the staff complimented me with the miso soup and mango gelato for dessert! The staff is very attentive and mostly nice. They cut the sushi in way too big of pieces. We ordered 9 different rolls & they were all good. Priced about average. My husband and I enjoyed Chopfuku for lunch on a Saturday. From the time we walked in, our experience was excellent. We were immediately greeted and were seated within 5 minutes. Once seated in a comfy booth, the waitress brought us each a bottle of water and a glass. Our order was taken within 10 minutes of being seated. Chopfuku has moved from their old location in Taylorsville to new place in West Jordan. The new place is amazing!.. a converted bank that is a little plain looking on the outside but the inside decor is modern and warm. The background music has given them a more upbeat atmosphere, busier and well staffed. The same great fresh fish, the menu seems to have expanded and the friendliest staff anywhere in the valley. The new place is a hit. Try the Toro tuna tartare with their home made sauce w truffle oil, simple w a unique flavor! I have been coming to Chopfuku for a few years now and did not realize that I haven't provided a review to one of my favorite sushi places! Chopfuku has become one of the places I regularly suggest to friends if I get asked for a sushi recommendation. Almost every time I suggest Chopfuku, I am met with a response of not having heard of it before which is why I especially feel the need to share my love for it! It is a hidden gem just west of I-15 and off of 4500 south, tucked away in a very small strip mall. Immediately upon walking in, you are met with an intimate sushi bar area and as you walk back, it opens to the dining room with ample seating. The service here is consistently great and the prices are very reasonable, especially considering how good of quality the fish is. I have had the great opportunity to try several menu items over the years, but for this review, I will highlight what we enjoyed this time around. Hamachi Heaven: I am typically a creature of habit, and what that means for my sushi order is that is there is a spicy Hamachi appetizer on the menu, I will absolutely be ordering it! The softness of the yellowtail with the crunch of fresh jalapeno is a texture I love, and with the pairing of the sriracha, cilantro, and citrus ponzu sauce - it is to die for! You better believe that not a drop of the sauce will be left on the plate! Escolar Nigiri: There is something to be said about the perfect execution of a piece of nigiri. Obviously, having good quality fish to start with is important, and they really have such great quality fish. The knife cuts on the fish were perfect and the rice was cooked very well (poorly cooked rice can be such a massive letdown, right?!). With sushi etiquette, nigiri is supposed to be eaten in one bite, but if you're like me, you may want to bite it in two and I very much enjoy it when I can take a bite into nigiri, and it is made so well that it does not fall apart. Hot Mama Roll: This roll was an adventure! I feel as though adding cajun flavors into sushi rolls is almost unheard of, so it felt like a bit of a leap to try this roll. I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it was! There were a lot of elements with this roll! I do feel as though the snow crab overwhelmed the texture a bit, but the tempura flakes really helped to mix up the mouth feel. The mango was not very ripe, which makes sense for the season we're currently in, so it didn't necessarily feel like it offered much in flavor here. I definitely think that the cajun flavor could have been kicked up a bit, as well as the heat level considering this roll is called the Hot Mama! Chopfuku Roll: If there is a role I can HIGHLY suggest that is a MUST TRY here, I would say it is the house-named Chopfuku Roll! Cream cheese in rolls can really either overwhelm in flavor or be the perfect addition, and it really works here. In the inside of the roll, it is paired with shrimp tempura and the combination of the slightly warm shrimp tempura with the cream cheese is great! The roll is once again topped with the unripe mango here, but thankfully that did not take away from the flavor. A big win with this roll is the fish it is topped with - spicy tuna and seared salmon. The sear on the salmon adds such an amazing depth to the flavor. Overall, I love the flavor elements of this roll! We enjoyed a bottle of the Momokawa Pearl Sake which is always one of my favorites and I do appreciate that you can take the bottle with you if you don't finish it. To sum it all up, I really enjoy every time I have had the opportunity to dine at Chopfuku. I will continue to suggest it to everyone I know, as I truly believe it is one of the better sushi restaurants in the Salt Lake area! read more

I like the rolls and crab puffs. However, I was disappointed on Omakase. Even though I ordered $60 sashimi one, I don't think it is okay to see oil fish and watery pieces of rather silly looking pieces of fish. The look was good, but I am going sushi place for look only. The more important thing is the quality of fish. The service was decent and I appreciate the action of offering free ice cream to make up. But I like to have the money's worth of good fish. I will revisit if I like to eat rolls as the flavor and how they presented was good. read more

We came because it was rated highly however I wish I actually read the reviews because, because the low star ones are very accurate when it comes to the food, but we were tired and trusted it blindly without reading the reviews. First they filled our soy sauce to the fullest. We usually do not use that much soy sauce and thought it was a waste and needed to use more wasabi to offset the ridiculous amount that is poured (and how wasteful). They gave us house salad on the house (even though our meal came with it) and the lettuce was brown and turning a little reddish. Maybe they gave it on the house to get rid of it and make it feel like we got free stuff to feel good? I ordered the sushi chef tasting omakase, while my husband and son ordered the sushi and sashimi combo. When asked what the difference was, they said the chef tasting had higher quality fish. I almost checked on a large piece of bone in one piece and the rice was actually so bad/cheap tasting, it was overwhelming where you can't enjoy the fish. The sushi/sashimi fish looked bright and neon color. My son has only been exposed to high quality sushi and did not enjoy his meal. We were visiting from LA where we have great sushi (sasabune, sugarfish and more) and unfortunately the quality was very disappointing. The chef tasting sushi was a little better (but not enjoyable either). Overall we thought the food was really bad. The ambiance was beautiful. The service was great. They also gave us free mango Gelato. They did check on us several times and we did not have the heart to tell them the food was really bad. If you dont have high expectations or maybe if you order different food...but our experience was one that we'll remember based on how bad the food was that it made us laugh and now we'll never trust places where Post Malone has been. read more

First let me say this place isn't big but very cute! Totally a place you can hang and take pictures. We were a group of 4 and was seated immediately which is always a plus. Our waitress was nice but def tried to get over on us. (Ill come back to that). To start off we ordered: sashimi tasting, sake toro, suzuki, edamame, and salmon carpaccio. The food started coming out and everything was tasting so good and going great. The sashimi tasting came out and we asked the server why the quality looks low and she said bc you didn't order the higher one. When asking her why? When we ordered the sashimi tasting she told us she put in sushi tasting. Which was completely wrong. She didn't want to remove it and place the correct order. We let it go and decided to just order the sashimi tasting. Which was really good compared to the sushi tasting. That left a bad taste in my mouth. But we decided to order the rest of our food. The rest of the food was amazing. Then we got out bill and they automatically charged 20% for bills over $200. When we asked about it she gave us an attitude and told us its on the menu. Which she was right/ wrong it wasnt 20%, it was 18%. She started stuttering when we told her she charged us wrong. The service was good. But overall, I think it's way too expensive for the quality of food and execution of food. In general, I would say the fish quality is higher than average, even very good; and the rice was actually seasoned, sushi rice, as opposed to just white sticky rice. I LOVED that they had salmon skin. One of my favorite traditional rolls, and it's so uncommon. We got the seasonal kisu which was very good, kind of like all the best parts of mackerel but not as strong. They serve you your soy sauce which I thought was weird but not a deal breaker. They filled it to the brim; so I just asked for a second dish and poured like 80% into the spare one. The main issues I had were related to how the rolls were made: There was too much rice in the rolls. It wasn't balanced. The pieces were too big to eat in one bite and they were not evenly cut; some pieces in the same roll were bigger/smaller. The seaweed was not even fully around some of our roll so the pieces were falling apart. If I'm going to be charged this much for a roll, I'd like it to be executed well. I didn't care for how they prepare their calamari--it's just squid tentacles instead of mini squid and large rings. A bit unorthodox but not a deal breaker. This is just a side note, but there's very few roles without shellfish. So I'd go somewhere else if you have that allergy. If you want to spend $80 on a few rolls, a pair of nigiri and an appetizer--I'd go somewhere else and either get more food or better quality. read more

Sad to say, it is embarrassing that people will try eating here thinking it is a representation of Japanese food. The only thing Japanese is the so called name and menu items. Otherwise, it isn't often that I don't eat what i ordered. In this case, the only thing good was the side salad and dressing. The miso soup was average at best and the tempura batter seemed and tastes old. The shrimp had a weird texture. They must not replace their oil often. They had to " make" the tempura sauce, which was strange. And it tasted almost like pure Shoyu. Anyone expecting decent Japanese food, stay away. Be warned. read more
