Second Review! If you want the rice blown off your sushi rolls, race to Takaski in downtown Salt Lake City. Yes, you read it right Salt Lake City for the best sushi rolls in the USA. The sushi masters have out-of-this-world flavor bombs that I've never experienced or had before. Two of the rolls have fish with strawberries and fish with delicious cold mango. The roll with Asian pear is also life changing. We also tried the calimari with crunchy, crisp, and larger grains of cornmeal that was simply delicious. Go with a large group so you can try more options. Service is great, friendly and engaging without being annoying. New clue: go for lunch it is less crowded and shorter lines, much easier to get in. I love to try new restaurants but trips to Salt Lake City ALWAYS finds me return for a consistently memorable experience. To the entire team, Unbelievable experience. Arigato

Takashi is still my favorite sushi spot in the city! I ordered something from the backboard this time -- the toro don. Unfortunately it's not a good value for the price point and it was very stringy :/ still haven't found good toro in the state... Everything else was great as usual! The waitress was kind enough to comp the bowl and I really appreciated that!

Our friends raved about Takashi so we had to try it when we visited SLC. As directed, we got there before 5 to get in line, and there were already 2 parties ahead of us (note that they open at 5:30 now, not 5). By the time they opened, the line was down the street. We were able to get into the first seating group. If you don't make it, you're probably looking at at least an hour to get seated because the sushi chefs get a little slammed with all the orders at once. By the time we left around 7:30, the line was only inside the building. If you have a big party (I think 6+), you can call for a reservation. The food did not disappoint! We got: - Gyoza: they were gently steamed and the ponzu sauce was so good - Fried trout: my first time eating every part of the fish (skin, head, bones) and it was my favorite item. I liked to dip the fish in the ponzu sauce. I will be looking for this on menus at home - Crispy chicken: great flavor and crispy yet tender - Forest Gump and Crispy ebi rolls: both were solid - Sesame gelato: creamy but would have liked a bit stronger sesame flavor - Mango mousse: not as fluffy as I expected, but delicious And they had Diet Coke. In a can, but bonus points for serving with a slice of lime. Our friends got omakase and our server Madelyn did a great job of explaining everything.

By far the BEST sushi you're gonna get in Utah. Super fresh & made we care. Service is always fantastic and the vibes within the restaurant itself is great. Everyone always seems to enjoy themselves and leaves satisfied. Highly recommend !!

A beautiful environment that is well worth the wait ! I do wish they did reservations but everything is freshly made to order so I understand the limitations. I am not a big raw fish enjoyer and I enjoyed the raw fish here. The fish is SO fresh that everything seems to melt in my mouth. Incredible flavors all around as well ! The miso soup and tofu starter were delicious and equally filling. They did a free dessert for my boyfriend's birthday and we chose the coconut tapioca pudding and it was perfect ! Not too sweet and perfectly creamy.

I went for the first time in three years, and so much has changed. From the long wait times (even 30 minutes before opening) to the slow, inattentive service and noticeably smaller portions, my experience this time was disappointing. The unagi nigiri used to be my favorite, but it was small, chewy, and not even torched, hard to justify paying over $10 for two sad pieces. While the toro and salmon were very fresh, the rolls were so tiny that after spending $100 for two people, we still left hungry. Many of the appetizers I used to love, like the red curry clam soup, are gone. Even after letting our server know we were in a rush, service remained slow. At this point, I'd only consider coming back for the nigiri.

Came here when I was in town for work on a Tuesday night. I was worried about not being able to get a table since I had seen that people line up at the door before the restaurant even opens, but we only waited around 10 minutes for a table to open up. The restaurant has a bright and energetic atmosphere. We started with a couple glasses of wine along with the edamame and gyoza. The gyoza were well made and served with a delicious ponzu sauce. For entrées, we went with the crispy chicken and the Magic Dragon roll. The chicken was very crispy and served with a teriyaki sauce that paired well with it. We'd probably try a different roll next time since we weren't huge fans of the unagi, but that's just personal preference. Our waitress was very attentive throughout the meal. Overall, I'd definitely recommend checking this spot out if you're in SLC and looking for a fun dinner with great energy.

I made this my first night stop in SLC because so many people raved about it! Well, I get it! Server Mia was such a warm friendly face and so attentive. Chef Kent was equally welcoming and kind and personalized an incredible omakase! I told him my primary profile is a love for chewy, sunny, super raw sushi, raw vegetable agents, and soy-based sauces! Started with cucumber salad, so fresh and zesty! Then I got to enjoy a plate of sashimi including ac first: barred knifejaw! A bit slimy and chewy, just like I like it! So good! A bit of a zesty with the yuzu ponzu sauce. Also striped jack for the first time! Super fresh! I can't compare it to anything I've had! Loved it! Went down very smooth, a great texture for texture lovers! Everything here looked so artistic! The grilled salmon someone ordered looked perfect with a noticeable char. Next I moved on to monk fish liver! Absolutely love that, next to pickled lotus root and giant clam. The main clam was perfect! Earthy and thick! The deep fried part of the clam was delicious! Sweet and warm! The root had a bit of a starchy aftertaste. Kent was really awesome! Even did show and tell with the giant clam when I was asking about different parts I was eating! All the sushi chefs were so friendly and professional and guests very warm! Zach was also super helpful in guiding his guests. Kent was definitely perfect for me! Incorporated so much of what I love and nothing of what I don't! On to the negitoro handroll with preserved lemon, cream cheese, avocado, and shiso leaf. So so so good! Perfect creamy texture, avocado flavor just right! Cleansed my palate with miso, served intentionally without a spoon. It was warm and refreshing. Then ended my meal with the most perfect bite of uno nigiri! Chill, smooth, utter perfection! Bravo Kent! 5+ stars!

If you want some of the best fish around, you need to eat at Takashi. The vibe inside is vibrant and energetic with daily specials on the wall. Service was good but felt a little rushed at times where as soon as you were finishing your last bite it seemed like our server was right there pulling the dish away. Otherwise a fantastic meal. We started with the SAIKYO-MISO SABLEFISH (GF) Melt in your mouth sablefish. Marinated in our own Sakiyo-Miso and baked to perfection, served with Asian slaw. This was amazing. Followed up by WOK-TOSSED ASPARAGUS (CAN BE GF) Crisp spears of asparagus served with a garlic sauce, shiitake mushrooms and glass noodles. The Sashimi was amazing, some of the best I had including the specials: BLUEFIN KIZAMI Bluefin Tuna, kizami wasabi, dashi-soy, crushed sesame seeds, shiso. Next was the A5 WAGYU BEEF Japanese beef, rich and fatty followed up with the MADAI Japanese Snapper, buttery and smooth. NEW ZEALAND SALMON Fatty Salmon, rich and smooth MADAI Japanese Snapper, buttery and smooth Finished off with my favorite standard Amaebi. I would definitely come back to eat here if ever passing through Salt Lake City again. 5 stars all the way and see my photos as to why!

I arrived around 6:30 and there was already a crowd waiting, which I've heard is common since it can be tough to get a table. Luckily, there was a spot open at the bar, so I was seated right away. I've checked in here six times, and it's truly one of my favorite sushi spots during my work trips. Even though I don't live in Salt Lake, this place is always a must-visit. This time, I stuck with my usual favorites--the Yellow Submarine with special sauce, plus the ceviche with the same sauce. Since I was still hungry, I finished with the Imagine roll. Every dish was packed with flavor, and the sauces elevated each bite. Sitting at the bar was also a fun experience, with guests chatting directly with the chefs.

Super tasty and fresh fish! Enjoyed the papaya salad, miso cod, and nigiri, though some of the nigiri had sauces that overpowered the fish naturally flavors rather than complementing. Came 10-15 min before opening on a weekday dinner and there were already a few people waiting in line, but there are 15-20 tables so it wasn't an issue. By 6pm ish, all tables were full. Would come back!

I was in SLC on business from Seattle and picked this place on a whim. Coming from a place with great seafood I was hesitant at first but boy am I glad I came here!! Incredible experience throughout and a great spot for solo diners on business. The staff was friendly and it was interactive getting to watch them make the sushi. I got the Cowboy Roll special and the Black Magic Woman, both exceeded expectations. Crowded and lively in the best way- I'll be back!

I can't believe it's been 9 years since my first review! I'm still Takashi"s number one fan all these years later! We came to celebrate my 12 year olds son's birthday - he requested the best sushi in the state.. Appetizers we ordered, tuna tataki, muscle shooters, edamame dumplings, gyoza, pork belly, spicy seafood soup (secret off menu), and miso sablefish. Every bite was as delicious as! Rolls- my favorite roll in Utah - the Box, simple, elegant, fresh, love it! Puff the magic dragon - second fav, surf and snow, tiger, imagine - every roll is amazing, you can't go wrong.

They do not. They have a white rice option and a BBQ rice option which is rice cooked with teriyaki sauce.

It's a very unique, strong garlic flavor with a thick broth. However, in my second visit, I became acquainted with the Spicy Kani Miso ramen... And holy *smokes,* is that a delicious ramen. The broth is deliciously miso and umami, with a lowkey seafood flavor, as though they cooked the crab in the broth. It was topped with a serving of shredded snow crab and the most tender, melt-in-your-mouth chashu pork slice. I savored every bit of this bowl, and even drank all the broth!! The appetizers were good, the best bang for your buck being the spicy karaage--it has a good kick, crispy fry without being greasy, and unique spicy flavor. Everything else we tried (garlic edamame, takoyaki, and enoki chips) was good, but nothing special. Service was incredibly speedy and very friendly, and you can tell that the owners put a lot of thought into the restaurant's design to make it feel like a genuine Japanese ramen shop with a modern twist. Do note that this restaurant is a bit pricy, but each bowl is thoughtfully crafted and the ingredients they use are the real deal. If you like ramen of a higher standard, especially when so many restaurants these days use generic ramen soup base with premade noodles and frozen appetizers, it's 100% worth the cost. I think my only complaint is that they boast about using locally-sourced ingredients, but nothing on their menu really sounds local (such as enoki, snow crab, wagyu beef, etc.). Also note that if you're driving, the nearest parking garage is often crowded, but the restaurant offers parking validation.

In a typical teppanyaki meal, meat and vegetables are served first, and fried rice or noodles are served at the end. At this restaurant, they began with fried rice and noodles immediately. It was apparent they were trying to fill people up early. Honestly, this kind of tactic is easy to spot, but since we were not planning to overeat anyway, we let it slide. You could also tell the process was carefully designed. The first round was cooked fresh in front of you, which felt engaging and fun. After that, if you wanted to order more, everything had to be made in the back of the house and brought out later. This was clearly stated on the menu, so, from a rule-based perspective, it was acceptable, but from an experiential perspective, the live-cooking element diminished noticeably. To be fair, the chef during the first round was great. He was friendly and engaging, interacting with guests throughout the cooking process. The atmosphere at that point was pleasant. Once that first round was over, the experience quickly went downhill. My friend and I ordered another round of beef and shrimp to share. We ultimately waited half an hour. We repeatedly asked, and the only response we received was "almost ready." The problem was that my friend needed to catch a flight after dinner, so time was tight. I eventually went to the kitchen and asked what was going on. I was told by a boss-looking guy very seriously that grilling takes more time if you want it to taste good. That explanation made no sense, since the teppanyaki had been cooked earlier in just a few minutes. After more than thirty minutes, the food finally arrived. It was a tiny plate, about six or seven slices of beef and six or seven pieces of chicken. I did not mind the portion size. Smaller portions are better than wasting food. But things got worse. We had ordered beef and shrimp. What arrived was chicken and beef. Even worse, the meat was lukewarm, clearly not freshly cooked. After we pointed this out to the server, less than a minute later, a freshly cooked plate of shrimp was brought out. The color and temperature made it obvious it was just made, which only confirmed that the earlier beef had been prepared in advance and was sitting around. I asked to speak with the owner or boss. The staff told me the person I had spoken to in the back kitchen earlier was the boss. When he came out, he did not look at us directly, spoke while turned to the side, and never offered an apology. He repeatedly said, "We don't know what to do." At that point, this was no longer about the food. It was about basic service attitude and basic respect. I fully understand that running a restaurant is hard. Being busy, making mistakes, or having process issues are all understandable. But when a customer gives serious feedback, and the response is dismissive, indifferent, and shows no remorse, that is not a simple mistake. It implies that the customer does not matter. *One last note. Strictly speaking, this place is not hibachi but teppanyaki. The name does not matter, nor does the format. In the service industry, what truly matters is sincerity and basic respect for customers.

We came for the Valentine's experience and tried almost everything on the menu (the only things we didn't get were the roasted cauliflower salad and the mushroom truffle pasta). Every single dish we had was incredible. The Wagyu Gyoza were perfectly seared and packed with flavor. The Maguro Crudo was beautifully done with just the right amount of heat and sweetness from the blueberry-habanero. For the shareable course, the crispy rice Hanabi was unreal...spicy tuna, jalapeño, avo, that crisp texture...so good. The Strawberry Serenade roll with the 3-piece nigiri selection absolutely stole the show. The nigiri quality was next-level fresh. For mains, the Chilean seabass was buttery and perfectly cooked, and the Wagyu filet was tender, rich, and beautifully seasoned. You can tell the quality of ingredients here is top-tier. Service was amazing. attentive, warm, and polished without feeling stuffy. The whole experience felt elevated but still fun and comfortable. The cheesecake was alright, not our favorite but still nice. The only tiny thing that would have made it perfect: valet wasn't available for our lunch reservation, so we had to park in the garage a block over. Not a big deal at all just worth noting. Overall, such a special experience. Incredible food, top-quality fish, and amazing service. We'll absolutely be back.

We had a reservation for 4 at 7 PM, and we weren't sat until 7:34. Then I got a drink so bad we sent it back. The server spilled red tea all over the table, my menu was ripped and sticky (gross), the food was room-temp, the sushi was low-quality, the list goes on and all this for a $50/person meal of just a few appetizers. Music was so loud we couldn't talk to each other at the table. I was told to try the dessert but after the full dining experience we decided to cut our losses and leave. The service was so slow, and above everything going so wrong, there was no attempt the salvage our experience. Also just interesting to note, we saw no management the entire time we were there. We wanted to love it, but there are WAY better offerings in SLC. Don't waste your time and money here!

The appetizers come with the hot pot and there are plenty of options to munch on while your ingredients heat up. Korean fried chicken, edamame, and gyoza are my favorites. After ordering your drinks, soup base, and meats (vegetarians get a cheaper option), you can get right to the veg/seafood buffet. They have a great sauce station and a big wall of different kinds of popular ramen packs to use if desired. Once you get settled, you can keep ordering the meats you like until you get full. I like to keep a little note of what I think of each one so I remember for next time. These are my personal opinions: 1 Mr Shabu ribeye - tender lean, best 2 oyster blade muscle - meatier but only ok 3 Mr. Shabu beef kurubi eye - chewy, wavy, not good 4 Mr. Shabu pork single rib belly - fatty, bad 5 US wagyu beef round eye - tender lean, good 6 US wagyu beef clod eye - jerky striated texture, bleh 7 Mr. Shabu beef boneless short rib - oily but in a good way, little chewy, great flavor 8 Mr. Shabu pork collar butt - fatty but comes apart easy, ok 9 Mr. Shabu lamb shoulder - no Usually if I'm playing it real safe with just two, I pick 1 and 7 :) I hope you come to try all the different flavors for yourself!

The corn cheese was pretty good actually, but the korean fried chicken was hecka dense. The meat wasn't dense, but the starchy layer on the exterior was really stiff. Didn't taste like the other korean fried chickens I've had. The mushroom beef was really salty.. and the beef itself was really tough. Next, I feel like the selection here is pretty small. There's not a lot to choose from at the bar area, though I admit that I am pretty impressed by their ramyun collection. Their crabs were literally minuscle, and I find it extraneous that they serve their noodles in bits. Yeah, you read it right: bits. They cut up their noodles, probably because it is easier to pick up with the tongs. But, is it even noodles at that point? The staff was pretty lethargic today, even though it wasn't busy at all. Took me a while to get their attention for more meats. They do have some great meat, but in my opinion, it really is a hit or miss. Stray away from the meats that start with "MR. SHABU", because they're not the best. The ones I've had were too lean or sometimes tough. However, I think the cleanliness of this place is on point: shiny tables shiny counters, and dry floors.
